The product, at first glance, does hold the mic loosely, but that is to accommodate for any larger mics that might be used. When using this for a boompole setup, I criss-cross the rubber bands for extra grip and security. Two bands get crossed horizontally in the front and two vertically in the rear so I am "weaving" the mic into a secure position. With this configuration, the shock mount works perfectly!!

While I do feel the Pearstone shock mount was slightly better in handling, this mount seems to be built slightly sturdier. I've already had 2 Pearstone mounts break in exactly the same way. The design of this mount makes that break impossible. The side knobs however are a bit finicky, as the very first time I loosened them, one side popped out entirely, sending its washers flying. Luckily I found them.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8415 Universal Shock Mount:

I used the AT8415 in film school with the Audio Technica shotgun mics on all of my projects and it worked great. I started purchasing my own audio equipment, bought a Sennheiser MKE 600 mic and needed a shock mount so I bought this one because I have had nothing but good experiences with it! It is very rugged and simple to use. You you have to cross the rubber bands when putting the mic through, otherwise there's not enough tension on the mic and it might slide out. That's just how it's designed. It comes with a 5/8" (mic stand) to 3/8-16 adapter so you can either mount it on a boom pole or a mic stand. I have used it on the end of the boom pole while running next to a moving car, and there was still no handling noise, so it performs its job wonderfully.

My only gripe is that you have to loosten two thumb screws to swivel the head of the shock mount, but that also means it will hold in place better.

Overall, it's an excellent shock mount, especially for the price. I would highly recommend it to amateur filmmakers who may not have money for a blimp system.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8415 Universal Shock Mount:

I use this AT shock mount with my Sennheiser shotgun microphone. It's been dependable for 13 years. I have taken in all over the world in some very rough conditions. I finally broke the bracket where it screws into my boom pole after all the abuse I've put it through. So I purchased the exact same one as a replacement. It's light weight, easy to use, and quick to put the microphone in or take it out.
It's probably the best shock mount for the money in my opinion.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8415 Universal Shock Mount:

This is a good universal schock mount, though I would caveat "universal" to only include light-weight, short shotguns between .75" - 1.0" in diameter and 6" - 8" in length. As with many such mounts, there is an expected amount of sag due to the minimal tension of the elastics. Were they tighter, they wouldn't absorb as much handling noise, but it does feel like they could stand to be a little more snug around the microphone. I didn't have any issues with the mic slipping or turning in a way I didn't want, but over time, I still feel I might.

Also, for the minimal cost, it would be nice to include a couple space elastic bands.

That said, it performed exactly as intended and held my mic where I wanted it.

It is a nice shock-mount if you're on a studio or on the outside, but being steady.

If you move too much, the mount will not hold the weight of the microphone and it will fall (some times at the face of your talent).

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8415 Universal Shock Mount:

                      Aloha Friends,

Audio-Technica's AT-8415 low profile shock-mount is an excellent product. Coupled with B&H's great service, my recent purchase experience was unbeatable.

I do a lot of stereo recording of acoustic musical instruments. The light-weight, low-profile of the AT-8415 is perfect for that application.

I really like the rubber bands that hold the mic's in place - soft, polished rubber. It NEVER puts a mark on my fine collection of top line condenser mic's - an important quality. But in Hawaii's humidity, all rubber products wear out fast. I own many of those shock-mounts - they are so quiet.

But the best part of my recent purchase experience was B&H Photo's delivery response time. Even though they were closed for that Passover Weekend, B&H delivered the 8415 on Monday, just three days after I'd ordered it, using USPS Ground (Ha!) to Honolulu! Great job, B&H on an excellent product! - alohachris, Honolulu

In my opinion, this is the only shock mount worth buying for run-and-gun applications where the gear takes a beating.
This shock mount is all-metal and I've seen one get crushed and then pried back into shape and still work. A similar plastic mount would have been shattered and unusable.
Also, the rubber bands are relatively non-proprietary, and by that I mean, it comes with black rubber bands, replacements of which can be bought from Audio Technica. But it's just as easy, and less costly, to use regularly available rubber bands as replacements, which means you can walk into any reasonably supplied office supply store and get replacements in a pinch. Not so with the other, more expensive and less durable shock mounts, which require proprietary pieces of rubber and plastic that are expensive and may be nearly impossible to get in, say, Indonesia.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8415 Universal Shock Mount:

The Audio Technica AT8415 Universal Shock Mount fits the smaller shanked mics very well as there are not too many shock mounts available at a reasonable price for these types of mounts. I needed to isolate a Boom Mounted EV vintage PL9 and have found the 8415 to work perfectly! The shank is 19mm on the PL9, fit is good, holds solidly and isolates well from the boom and the sounds a boom can make when moving into another position. The instructions state the mount will handle down to a 12mm shank.... might be a little loose with this small of a diameter but you can cross the bands for a tighter fit.
Overall, very pleased with the product and as usual, B&H Photo provided excellent service with fast shipping.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8415 Universal Shock Mount:

Bought the B&H basic Kit that comes with this mount and the PearStone Shock Bands, but I am not able to use since the bands get cut as you put them in the grooves. The grooves are way way too small for these bands.[...] but as some of the other owners brought out you may need to dremel it to make it wider. The bands that come with it are pretty weak if you are using a heavy mic.So for now I am going to give it 3 stars until I am able to use it.

This is a versatile shock mount. The only problem I had was with the pearstone suspension mounts(b&h kit) The mount needed to be modified because the pearstone mounts are 3X thicker than the grooves in the AT shock mount bracket. I really like this mount but you should plan on a little rework with a Dremel so you don't destroy the pearstone suspension mounts. It took me about 1.5 hours and some touch up paint.
