I use it for carrying equipment while snowboarding. I require a bag that can take abuse during violent spills, either turtling or cartwheeling down. My camera is a Canon 5D and a 24-105mm L lens. I also carry batteries, extra lenses, lens hoods, filters, sometimes a small video camera or lunch. It has worked well in heavy snow conditions and during some nasty spills. The bag is easily swung around to front for riding lifts and sideways for accessing the camera. The side access is optimal and being symmetrical right or left doesn't matter. The straps secure it tightly onto your body, but still can be swung around while leaving the waist and chest straps buckled. The camera can go in and out in a flash without any unbuckling. The zipper access is easily managed with gloves and can be done with mittens as well. The bag is designed for photo/video equipment and not much else (not a gym or laptop bag). The price was comparable to other models and brands. The only issue I had is with the waist strap getting caught on things when the bag was being stowed away on the airplane.

It was a nice bag and a nice size which is why I downgraded from the larger Evolution to this smaller one. However, I carry a small lap top and there was no space for that. Also that swing around feature wasn't really comfortable for me - perhaps because I am barely above 5 feet. I finally settled on the Kata BumbleBee with the dedicated padded lap top compartment and much more space for personal items. I sacrificed to greater size. We shall see...

The Tamrac Evolution was comfortable to wear and seemed light enough. The other complaint I had was the stiffness of the front opening for the camera - the one at front. That front loading place was also a bit small. Perhaps the larger one would have been good, but I went in another direction!

    It seemed very well made.

Comments about 5786 Evolution 6 Photo Sling Backpack (Black):

I purchased this backpack/camera bag to replace my Tamrac Velocity 6 which I found to be a great bag in itself just a little too small. The Evolution is so comfy and carries all my gear along with my large wallet and my e reader. The first day out I carried it all day up and down rocky terrain. The only thing I would add to the bag would be a harness that would clip in my camera.

This is a really great day pack with so many possible configurations. The main pocket can hold a body and around 3 small lenses, but don't expect the rest of the pockets to hold anything other than maybe a book and some accessories. Definitely not for if you want to carry around a laptop, but can fit small things. Overall rugged and awesome.

Bought this for my wife. I own the evolution 7, but she wanted a smaller bag for her Canon 7D and one or two lenses. Its a bit of a tight fit, but fits her body perfectly. B&H service was exemplary as usual

Comments about 5786 Evolution 6 Photo Sling Backpack (Brown with Tan):

I was looking for a bag to carry one DSLR, 2 lenses, light carbon fiber tripod and some accessories and this fit the bill. However there's a few things about it that I'm not thrilled about:
                      (a) Bag has Hip belt. I don't see what you could carry in this small bag other than a bowling ball to make a hip belt necessary. I cut off the belt with scissors.
                      (b) Top compartment should be a little larger. You can't fit much in here, perhaps a shirt and sandwich. 7" kindle or ipad mini won't fit either. I'd prefer a little more room here, and less below, but I'll figure this out.
                      (c) Top handle is a little shabby. And there's not enough clearance between it and the bag. I like a solid well designed, well built top handle.

Other than the hip belt which I'm not sure what they were thinking, this is a good bag for hiking and even getting around the city with <15 lbs of gear. I'm carrying a T3i, 10-22/24-105/40mm lenses no problem, with some filters, intervalometer & Rode mic around generally these days.
I have not used the rain cover yet, so I don't know the pros/cons of it.

I travel a lot and wanted a backpack small enough to fit in baggage bins of European airlines yet allows me to carry all my gear. I back the bag with my Nikon D700 camera, Nikon 28-300mm and 17-35mm lens, Nikon SB-600 flash unit, 6 Tiffen 77mm filters, Nikon ML-3 remote, cleaning supplies extra batteries, charger extra cards and my Sirui tripod. Yes it's a tight fit but I keep all my equipment under my control at all times!

Comments about 5786 Evolution 6 Photo Sling Backpack (Brown with Tan):

The main camera storage area holds my rebel xs with attached lens, extra lens, and flash. The side areas hold covers, and other assesories. The upper storage can hold an extra shirt, lunch, or computer connections.

The camera hold can be a problem for larger cameras or ones with grips or battery attachments. It might be a tight fit for cameras bigger than The Canon T series.

The mess of straps can be annoying. I use the bag as a sling, but comes equipped with backpack straps, chest strap, and waist strap. Unless you are doing some major hiking. The waist strap gets in the way and needs to be tied up.

As a 6ft person, it has been great as an urban travel bag. Side access allows for quick removal of the camera. The ziggers and material seem to not mind being rough up.

The tripod holder can only hold a compact one or a monopod. I did wish it had another side pouch for a drink. Great for the amateur, but may be too small for a professional with more and larger equipment.

Comments about 5786 Evolution 6 Photo Sling Backpack (Brown with Tan):

I bought this bag when I had a 3Ti, and two kit lenses. Within a few weeks I had the bag completely packed with equipment. I was able to fit my 3Ti, nifty fifty 50mm, kit 55-250, 16mm-35mm 2.8L, 70mm-200mm 4/L, my spare iPhone, Canon battery charger, and battery grip.

I've recently outgrown the pack, with the addition of new lenses, and have switched its use to being solely a lens bag. The side covers works great for quick change access.

The only problem I have, is that the side opening is too small for my camera body when the battery grip is attached. I couldn't say whether the side openings would fit your camera or not, although I can say that my 3Ti is seriously bulky with the grip attached. I solved the quick draw problem by buying the Tamrac 5562 shoulder bag(another wonderful Tamrac product).

The build quality is exceptional. The zippers never bind and the Velcro inserts are padded well. So far, my experience with Tamrac products has been exceptional.

I use this bag for my 5D with 24-105 zoom, an addtional 70-200 f4 zoom and a flash light/or a third small prime. Top compartment contains lens hoods and a few accessories. its compact, comfortable to carry and can easily swing around for quick access. Its for action photographers who don't need to haul around a laptop. One stupid difficiency is the small triport/monoport foot pocket which is almost useless. Another useful improvement can be shoulder strapes with curvature like the top brand backpack. Otherwise the build is top notch and robust.

I carry 2 camera bodies, 4 lens w/hoods (11-16mm & 18-200mm & 35mm & 200mm macro) & 1 flash as well as several other goodies. the Evo 6 works well for me, i have easy access to the cameras as needed and lens, i drive a lot and do a fair amount of photography from my SUV, i am very pleased with the ease of getting my photo goodies out of the backpack quickly for those shots which cannot wait. i recommend this product to anyone who wants a good and friendly backpack.

I order it online, big mistake... The inside divider are really badly design, I could not come up to a configuration that works well. My best advice if you plan to buy this bag go to the store with your gear and try it. Straps are badly done as well and not comfortable at all.
