The Slik Compact Tripod II is compact and perfectly sized for travel. It folds down to only 14.17" (37.3 cm) and is lightweight (1.26 lb, 571.5 g). It reaches a maximum height of 38.83" (99.0 cm) and will support cameras, camcorders, or scopes weighing up to 2.75 lb (1.24 kg). It comes with a 2-way pan head with a textured surface to keep your camera or camcorder from slipping and an easy-grip pan handle for smooth panning and locking the head just where you want it to be.

The Compact II improves upon the easy-to-use features of its predecessor, the popular Compact Tripod XL, by adding Slik Speed-Release leg locks which are faster and easier to operate than the traditional twist-lock legs. At the top of the center column is a bubble level to keep your equipment perfectly positioned. This tool is particularly useful for shooting landscapes and horizons.

The gearless "lift'n lock" center column features an oversize locking collar, and rubber leg tips provide traction outdoors and protect surfaces indoors. Lightweight and sized perfectly for fitting into a backpack or gear bag, the Compact II Tripod is an excellent tripod when you are on the go.

The two-way pan head has independent pan and tilt locks, a textured surface, and easy-grip pan handle.
Slik Speed-Release leg locks are faster and easier to operate than the traditional twist-lock legs.
The bubble level at the top of the center column helps level the camera for perfect landscapes and sunsets.
This tripod will fit comfortably into a backpack or gear bag, making it ideal for travel.

Upon receiving this tripod, I was quite impressed. I purchased it for use with a Zen-Ray ED2 20-60x82mm Spotting scope which weighs 64 oz. This tripod is rated for about half that weight. I have used another Slik tripod in a similar capacity and have been very impressed with its craftsmanship, so I decided to give the Compact 2 a try. I was very pleased to find that the head held this heavy spotting scope well and maintained its position without tipping or moving. I probably wouldn't leave it fully extended on a windy day with the spotting scope attached as it would probably tip over, but when being used only partially extended, it supports the scope well.

The three things to keep in mind with this tripod are that it does not have a head that has quick-change plates, so it has to be screwed into whatever you are attaching it to each time. It also doesn't extend very high, so it does not work well for anyone of any height who wishes to use it in a standing position. Another thing that could be improved on is that the legs will not extend past the angle shown in the photos. I prefer to sit inside my tripod on a small chair as I glass, and the legs on this tripod do not extend wide enough to do this. However, given the fact that the tripod is small and my spotting scope has an angled eyepiece, it was easy to position in front of myself where it could be easily and comfortably used for extended periods of glassing.

My main purpose for this tripod is to scout for wildlife, and to do so from a seated position with the spotting scope mounted low to the ground. The locations I glass from are often a fair distance from where I can park, so having a lightweight, compact tripod to add to my backpack has become a necessity, and this tripod fits the bill well. Another great product from Slik.

It's a fairly solid tripod that stands up well and feels like it's not going to fall over with my film SLR camera on it.
It's short. I'm 6'3" and I almost have to kneel in order to look through the viewfinder. Not really the fault of the tripod since I bought it without checking the size.

      Great Tripod

      By Imani

Comments about Slik Compact Tripod II:

I bought this tripod looking for something small enough to fit on a desk, but sturdy enough to hold a canon t5i/700d with an 18-135mm lens, in an position where most of the weight would be on one side without tipping over and this works perfectly! The pan head and legs hold the weight of the camera extremely well and it allows me to get any angle that I need to. It was a steal too at just $! And it also works perfectly, fully extended when not on the desk, not unstable at all.

Comments about Slik Compact Tripod II:

Used this on a 9-day backpacking trip in the Wind River Range. Saved over 1 pound of weight on any other lightweigth tripod I could find that actually has some stability with my micro 4/3 Olympus OM-D.

Easy to use and fast to set up. I've tried a lot of mounts for backpacking over the years and this is the best I've found for a small camera.

I'll knock one star off the rating because I wish it was a 3-way pan/tilt head instead of a 2-way pan head.

The level bubble is a nice addition.

Highly recommeded for what it is and for the price. Will definietly use it on future backpacks and for travel.

Comments about Slik Compact Tripod II:

This is a replacement for a similar Slik tripod I purchased probably 25+ years ago (500g). Design is very similar and I'm expecting to get similar longevity based on an initial look at the product. It is lightweight unit so go with those expectations.

I do historical research and am at libraries and museums with a small high-end compact (i.e. small and light weight) camera. Conditions often require a tripod for documenting artifacts & documents. Something small and portable is needed and this appears to fit the bill.

Tripod head looks identical to my old 5000g tripod. It looks like one could make a switch of the heads if wanted… but I don't know why one would want to. And my old one finally broke.

Comments about Slik Compact Tripod II:

My original SLIK 500G tripod only lasted about 40 years or so. From the look of this new COMPACT II tripod it should last just as long. In fact, both tripods are almost identical. The "pan head" was the only part that failed on my old one. I tried switching the new head over to my old tripod and it was a perfect fit. For $[$], where can you find something the last 40 years?

Great little tripod if you want to bring on the go, I fit it in my luggage easily when I went on vacation and it was very useful, just don't put a pro-dslr on it, however if you will where your neck strap, it's not very stable for that kind of stuff.

Comments about Slik Compact Tripod II:

I use the Compact Tripod II for HDR and long exposure shots, and I need my tripod to be lightweight since I tend to do a lot of climbing and exploring. This tripod is lightweight but sturdy (not just welded weakly together like other lightweight tripods I've used) and fits pretty well in a regular sized backpack. It does take a bit longer to set it up than I'm used to due to the clips you have to open and secure, but have a reliable and lightweight tripod is worth the work.

This short tripod is used for flower photography with a point and shoot camera. It is very lightweight. We replaced the head with a SBH-60 ball-head, which is easier to attach to the camera and has more range of motion. But only do this for non-video. I was hoping this tripod would go a little lower, but the legs won't fan out. This is a great tripod for hiking, when taking flower pictures, or when traveling and you want something really small and light. It doesn't go high enough for portrait photography. It comes [...] with clear instructions.

Nice small tripod. Put it on a table or shelf and a camera or small spotting scope fits fine. I'am going to adapt it to take a compact binocular that doesn't have a tripod screw.

I purchased to take on extended hunting trip and suits portability & fine for small kowa spotting scope, easy set up with screw in base plate rather than detachable one as they are usually less stable on the lighter cheaper models...!!! Reccommend for this purpose.

I've been looking for a lightweight tripod that collapses to a small size. I also wanted the legs to be levers and not twist type. This one was great and the only possible weak feature was the swivel head. Although it seemed to be able to handle a few pounds, I unsrewed it and replaced it with a mini-ball head. Now I have a tripod that can handle several pounds. The fully extended length is not that great, but you have to sacrifice something for the size and weight. This was a good compromise.

I should have read the other reviews and paid attention to the height specs. This thing is small. It doesn't seem to be made very well either. The liquid level is so small that it's nearly unusable. My Nikon D3100 is too heavy for it. The head sags to one side under the weight of this very light DSLR. I vote "no".

Comments about Slik Compact Tripod II:

This a great little tripod for pocket cameras, such as the Nikon P7000 with the ML-L3 remote release. I use it for low light and/or long exposure shots.

Fits easily into a day pack. Weighs only 2.75 lbs & folds down to 14".

Four stars because it only has a two way pan-tilt, instead of a three way. However, the SLIK leg locks are extremely easy to adjust. I level the horizon by adjusting the leg on the left while looking through the viewfinder.

Appears to have the traditional SLIK quality. I have been using a SLIK U-112 since 1983, and it has never failed.

This tripod is strictly for very small cameras. It is not for the F3HP, F5, or D300.

Comments about Slik Compact Tripod II:

It's a fairly solid tripod that stands up well and feels like it's not going to fall over with my film SLR camera on it.
It's short. I'm 6'3" and I almost have to kneel in order to look through the viewfinder. Not really the fault of the tripod since I bought it without checking the size.
