The Kata Pro-Light Bumblebee-220 PL Backpack (Black) is a multi-featured professional backpack designed to provide the best carrying, storage and working solutions. The pack is made from lightweight, durable Ripstop nylon and polyester mesh exterior, with a TST (Thermo Shield Technology) rib structure that provides protective zones for the camera where it will most likely be impacted by shock, vibration and Aeriform foam that is made of perforated super light laminated and reinforced EVA and EPE foams. It is also has additional protection from a specially formed, foam encased, spring steel Spine Guard and Aluminum Skeleton stave arcs across the mid section. The Yelloop interior is a bright yellow material for viewing the contents with ease and attaching any optional Modi-Vers dividers. The modular interior allows removal of various components that are not necessary for a specific shoot.
The Pro-Light Bumblebee-220 PL backpack has a main compartment that is designed to hold 2 to 3 D-SLR camera bodies, up to 8 lenses (space for up to 500mm but with tripod mount dismantled), flash and many other accessories. Use the modular Aeriform dividers and Cocoon Pouches to custom fit the needed gear. Access to the main compartment can be from top, bottom or any other point; so if a specific item is needed the bag opening will not expose its content to prying eyes. A rear laptop slot will hold most laptop computers with a screen up to 17". An external top pocket and 2 side pockets can carry many accessories. A flexible pocket on the other side will easily carry a water bottle. There is a double purpose pocket on the bottom front of the bag can be used either for additional storage or as a docking base to secure a small tripod.
The Bumblebee Backpack has a tripod sling that can be attached to either the front or the side of the backpack and a detachable Double-sided Elements Cover with mesh pocket that is used for protection in all weather and environment conditions. There is an Aeriform camera strap which is light, flexible and airy that can be used individually or interconnected to the two designated loops on the backpack harness. The pack has a carry handle and an advanced ergonomics harness system that consists of a Gecko Harness made of molded EVA foam harness straps that has 3D tapered thickness. Micro hatch texture secures it in position firmly and comfortably and its shapely contour fits the body organically, a soft molded 3D foam back for comfort, support and ventilation and a Clinch-Clasp Sternum Strap that has an aluminum clinch connection. It also consists of an adjustable and removable waist belt that will fit itself perfectly to a photographer's shape and build, 2 specially designed connection strap loops for the included Aeriform camera strap and an EPH (Ergonomic Photo System) that is designed with connection tabs to enable using other Kata products. There is an Insertrolley connection for placing the pack over a rolling bag handle; when this is in use the harness tucks out of the way and waist belt can be removed and stowed away.

I bought this backpack as a way to carry all of my gear on a plane with me when I traveled. I wanted to have a bag I could carry easily and one that would fit in overhead bins so I didn't have to worry about checking it. This bag is great, very large and spacious. I carry a Thinkpad T510, Sony GY-HM100 video camera (+batteries, charger, filters, media), Sennheiser wireless lavs, Nikon D70 (+3 short lenses, batteries, charger, filter, media) and external hard drive. I also strapped a Manfrotto Tripod to the outside and stored the head inside with the rest of my gear.
Cons: Laptop sleeve is tight, hard to pull the laptop out at security. This bag will NOT fit in the overhead on smaller planes. I was lucky and they let me put in the closet up front or cram it under the seat in front of me but that is not always a guarantee. It did fit in the overhead on my last flight which was on a larger plane with 3 seats on each side of the aisle.
Pros: plenty of room for tons of stuff, love the modular inside. Very light bag which is great when you're carrying tons of gear like me. Excellent waist strap which is really important when you load the bag up.
Overall I would recommend this bag. I had also ordered the Karachi Outpost Backpack, Pro Runner 450 AW Backpack, Pro-Light Beetle-282 PL Backpack
and Tenba Shootout Backpack, Large, to try them all out and see what worked best and all of the other bags seemed HUGE to me. I put them next to my carry-on suitcase that I usually take on a plane and they were bigger. The 220PL was also the lightest of the group.

I bought this because I knew it would hold everything I have and then some (which it does, btw). I planned on using it around town but it turns out it's huge on me (5'4, 110lbs) so I'll just keep it for on location shoots and for holding gear that I'm not carrying with me for the day.
Things that are great about this bag is the fact that it holds so much and it is definitely protecting all of the gear.
What I did not care for were the shoulder straps, I personally think they are awful. They're rubber and not cushioned enough; if you're not using ALL of the straps and buckles then this bag quickly becomes uncomfortable. It would be so much better if the straps were made with fabric and padding like so many other backpacks on the market.
I'm also not a fan of the bulkiness and size of the bag - BUT - it does hold a ton of gear, so that is to be expected.
This bag is great for keeping gear protected at home, or for taking to a shoot where you don't plan on carrying it around for a long time (the straps are just too uncomfortable for long periods of time IMO), and as a backup bag on shoots.

I carry my computer, two cameras, and one video camera to volleyball matches and around town. THe pack is very well padded with lots of space. The straps and support system are comfortable.
The foam does weigh a little bit.
Would definitely recommend to others who are going to carry equipment around for the day to anywhere.

I received this bag as a gift. The first thing I noticed about the bag was the amount of space it is. It can easily fit a couple of camera bodies, flash as well as a handycam and still have room to hold between 5-8 lenses. The ability to carry a backpack adds a nice touch. All in all a good buy and value for money.

Overall this is a great backpack and it feels extremely comfortable! I use this backpack for my 60d w/battery grip, my plethora of lenses and other photo gear. The only problem that I have with this bag is the small storage pockets on the outside of the bag. But other than that is a great bag and your equipment is very secure.

Comments about Kata Pro-Light Bumblebee-220 PL Backpack:
First impression of the size was originally wow that's kind of a big bag but as I put all my gear in there I found it was just the right size. You see, I was able to put 3 camera bodies, 5 lenses, 1 flash, 2 battery chargers and a dozen filters and other small accessories in this bag at one time!
The plush sides feel like they protect the equipment well and access to every compartment is pretty easy. I like the modular design and the double zippers (they allow you to open the bag at the top or bottom without having to open the whole thing.)
As big as it is I found that it was very light material so most of the weight is the actually the camera equipment you put inside. Also you have to play with the shoulder straps a bit to get it to fit you just right. I'm happy it has a harness for large tripods too so that was a plus for me. The modular design means I will be able to easily take parts off if I ever get bigger lenses or need to accommodate different accessories.
Now all my gear fits in 1 bag and if I ever decide on a last minute photo trek I'm packed and ready to go!

First off, this is a big bag. That is why I bought it though. I currently have my gripped Nikon D800, 24-70 2.8, 80-200 2.8, 85mm 1.8G, Sigma 50mm 1.4, two flashes, a micro 4/3s camera and two lenses for it, a rocket blower, and then various accessories. It gets a bit heavy with all of that in it, but the straps keep it secure and spread the weight well. I almost forgot to mention, the bag is very well padded and keeps your gear well protected.

Overall, this is a good backpack with lots of room for lenses, cameras, and other photo gear. I can fit a pro body, speedlite, and 7 lenses comfortably. My main gripe with this bag is the lack of small storage. There are two small-ish pockets on one side, and two slightly larger pockets on the front, and that's it. I struggle to find enough room for various nicknacks like filters, batteries, tripod plates, etc. The entire inside cover of the bag is bare, and would be ideal for this type of storage, but here Kata has decided not to use it. Put some more pockets for accessories and I'd give this bag 4 to 4.5 stars.

I use this backpack for my 5DII w/battery grip, 24-105mm and 70-200mm lenses, 580EXII flash, Rode external mic, accessories for shooting video and all charging accessories for camera and flash batteries. There is still room for a couple more smaller prime lenses:) The dividers are velcro'd in and can be easily configured. With all this equipment the bag does have some weight, but with the way the backpack straps on, the weight is evenly distributed between your shoulders and hips. I was originally unsure of the rubber shoulder straps but they actually feel pretty comfortable when the backpack is strapped on (upper and lower hips straps).

This is an excellent bag. It is easy to organize all your gear, and it certainly fits a lot in it.
I have 2 camera bodies (with grips), 5 lenses, Z-Finder, 580EX II and some other accessories. It all fits, and I still have some room for more. Basically this bag will fit as much as you can carry.
It feels very rugged, while being extremly light, and it has a huge amount of padding. I feel like this bag could take a beating and my gear would be fine.
Now - I have 3 things that must be mentioned.
1. It is Big! I am 6 foot, and it looks big on me (but anything that fits this much gear is going to be big), and with this bag, not even packed to it capacity, it is extremely heavy.
2. I know they say the straps mold to your body, but I've used this bag a huge amount and still find they're not the most comfortable.
3. There is no dedicated place to store memory cards or filters. It's not a huge deal, but it'd be nice if it had it.
In summary, if you have to carry around a lot of gear, this is the bag to get. This bag will fit everything you can physically carry on your back, and everything you put in the bag will be safe and sound.
