Comments about Manfrotto 504HD Head w/535 2-Stage Carbon Fiber Tripod System:

Really love this tripod. Sticks are lightweight but really stable. I use it with my Canon C100 and 7D and all the gear. Love the head too. Works a little different from my last Manfrotto head. The height you can get with this is amazing Love the lighted leveling bubble! Worth the money. Also like that I can take the head off the sticks and they fit in my big suitcase for flight (barely-crossways)with my portable LED lights and my clothes packed around them.

Comments about Manfrotto 504HD Head w/535 2-Stage Carbon Fiber Tripod System:

I outfitted my Videographers and myself with these tripods after suffering bad tripods for years. My requirements were simple...be tuff, versatile, priced right and servicable...this tripod nails it on all accounts.
The height range on this thing is great...really short to really tall...perfect!
The carbon fiber legs are light...so is the head...it doesn't kill you to carry it around all day.
The head is smooth and delivers counterballance for a wide range of cameras. We primarily use them for our Sony EX3's with shoulder/battery/receiver mounts.
The case is good...keeps things clean and protected.
The light built into the bubble level is great for low light situations.

Comments about Manfrotto 504HD Head w/535 2-Stage Carbon Fiber Tripod System:

I purchased the Manfrotto 502HD pro video head with the 755XB tripod and a Manfrotto 504HD video head with the 535 carbon fiber tripod at the same time thinking I would use one for a one time setup and the other for moving about. The difference is day and night. The 502HD head is much more difficult to level then the 504HD. The 502 head leveler had know light and was inconveniently placed. The light is necessary even in the daytime. I had to kind of force the head from one position to the other, which may it hard not to over shoot the level position. With the 504 head, you just loosen the ball and quickly adjust it level with the lighted level build conveniently into the head and easy to see. The ball type is the only way to go for quick and accurate setup. I know there is twice the cost for the 504HD head but unless your willing to struggle every time you use the 502HD setting it up....time is money...then I highly recommend kicking in the extra bucks. After all, once you buy the setup you'll have it for ever. You won't be sorry in the long run.

I have used other Manfrotto tripods in the past. They were excellent as well. The thing that separates this one to me however is how easily customizable it is to the shot you are looking for. Nothing's worse than having to spend time setting up your tripod for a shoot or in front of a client. This tripod makes it quick, easy and effective. I would definitely recommend!

Comments about Manfrotto 504HD Head w/535 2-Stage Carbon Fiber Tripod System:

I love this head and sticks. I had been using the 501HDV with aluminium legs and a center column, for years. Do not get me wrong, that tripod system has worked well for me in most cases, but it was time for a serious upgrade.

In film school I had the privilege to work with O'Connor tripod heads and legs. In case you don't know, O'Connor makes THE BEST tripod heads and legs anywhere. (to be fair I haven't worked with all of the different tripod brands). They are widely used on film sets all around the world. They are also 10,000-20,000 dollars....

For a bit over $1000, you get a similar fluid feel of an O'Connor, a large head and base-plate capable of supporting heavier camera set-ups, and a rugged build for most of the head. Of course the fluid motion isn't perfect, and lacks a large number of settings for the fluid drag level. (O'Connor's that I have worked with have 10 settings, from 0-9, 9 being extremely tight and hard to move. Keep in mind that those O'Connor heads are built for sometimes hundreds of pounds, thus the many settings. This head, however, is MUCH smoother than my 501. The worst part of the 501 was starting and stopping the movement. The fluid motion during the shot was fine, but landing on your next composition smoothly with the 501 is hard to do. The 504 does that much better, and is perfect for small cameras.

The tripod legs are amazing. Sturdy, yet light carbon fiber that can drop to baby-leg height, and stand up to over 6'4". I'm 6'4", and when this guy is all the way up, the camera is well over my eye-line. That versatility is crucial.

I have 1 complaint, and the reason for 4 stars. The build quality of the tilt and pan locks especially, but all of the knobs, is not as sturdy as the rest of the head. I have a friend who owns this system, and his pan lock broke off fairly easily, he said. I can see that being a frustrating issue in the future.

Other than that, for the price, this system is amazing, and it's well worth the money if you need a smooth, light-weight, sturdy head.

Comments about Manfrotto 504HD Head w/535 2-Stage Carbon Fiber Tripod System:

Having owned a number of different Manfrotto products, I was excited to get this tripod. This was the last piece in the puzzle changing over to a complete Manfrotto setup, so that during commercial shoots, we could jump easily from rig to rig.

The 504HD is a smooth tripod head with all the features and quality you'd expect from Manfrotto. If you own a 502HD, you kind of know what to expect. But the 3-step counterbalance and increased smoothness, along with the illuminated bubble level make the 504 a worthwhile upgrade.

The 535 carbon legs are sturdy and light. Not as light as you'd think, but lighter than the aluminum tripod legs I used to shoot with. Only reason I don't give this setup 5 stars is the tripod feet. They're rounded stubs that screw on and off to reveal spikes. They just don't match the quality of the rest of the tripod and I've seen much better options in cheaper tripods from other manufacturers.

But, honestly, that's a small drawback in an already amazing product. And the included bag is a beautiful thing! Stop debating and get one already! The

Comments about Manfrotto 504HD Head w/535 2-Stage Carbon Fiber Tripod System:

I tend to run and gun at events or on news type programs. I was previously using (amongst other things) a 503 head and 546B legs. I much prefer this unit.

                    --Pros--

relatively lightweight. I can single handedly lift the entire unit with a typical 1/3 - 1/2 inch EX/XF/HVX weight camcorder mounted (inc. mics and batteries).

Easy to carry between setup positions. The legs collapse quickly and easily. Also great for collapsing them and holding the whole unit up high to see over crowds at events.

Legs have three different angles; at their lowest setting the unit is nearly at floor height.

The illuminated spirit level is VERY USEFUL on night shoots and dark events. The low battery indicator light is a great idea.

Padded bag and tripod/head material construction look to be of good quality. The red metallic trim on the dials and pan bar are a nice touch.

The underside of the base plate mount has two sockets for holding spare 1/4 and 3/8 screws, a thoughtful touch.

On its first outing I had another operator with a 503 head and 546 sticks wanting to borrow mine(!)

                    --Cons--

There does tend to be some "bounce" back, especially noticeable on long lens tilts and pans.
The solution I found with this unit was to add in a little pan and/or tilt lock as well as fluid drag. This tended to stop the bounce. It also depends on your counterbalance settings so you need to may need to tweak these to get smooth moves.

The fluid dials don't seem to really kick in until nearly at their maximum setting and even then they're not that "strong" (or perhaps I am too strong for the head).

The manual refers to markers on the fluid drag dials but these seem to have been since removed. Would have been useful to dial repeat settings but I could always use white tape to add my own markers in.

We use this product in a news environment. MMJ's (One-man band) use this combo. Compared to other set-ups we have this one gets the most use. It was so nice I had to get another. The head is great, smooth, pan/tilts. The drag is very nice. The tripod is sturdy and can hold much more than the 12 pound camera set-ups we are using. System is quick and easy to set up for use. My only complaint is the legs get loose and need to be tightened every couple of months to keep them from flopping around. If you are buying for MMJ I would highly recommend this combo. It is light and stable!

Comments about Manfrotto 504HD Head w/535 2-Stage Carbon Fiber Tripod System:

I use this tripod for pro video. It is very sturdy and light. When I read the negative reviews of the aluminum tripod, I decided to go with the carbon fiber...it is well worth the price. This head is amazing ...very fluid and the adjustments are a great aid in accommodating to different needs. Worth every $ don't scrimp with a cheap unstable tripod or head that is unstable or jerky. I did a lot of research before buying this (I don't like wasting my hard earned $) and it is top-rated and recommended by many pros.

Comments about Manfrotto 504HD Head w/535 2-Stage Carbon Fiber Tripod System:

I had the same Manfrotto tripod for nearly ten years and decided it was time for an upgrade. What I liked most about this tripod was the weight (8lbs) and its height range (16" - 72"). It came with a nice case, which beats carrying it by the legs. The head is great and highly adjustable. The illuminated balance bubble is an awesome feature especially on night shoots.

The only complaint I have is adjusting the legs to go 16" is not well designed. My fingers get pinched a handful of times during a given shoot but I'm learning to deal with it.

Comments about Manfrotto 504HD Head w/535 2-Stage Carbon Fiber Tripod System:

The tripod is sturdy and extends to a good height allowing me to shoot over the heads and directly to the speaker in a conference room. I did have to loosen the screws at the pivot points of the legs to make it easier to set up, break down or move around. No big deal, I do this on all of my tripods. It is a bit on the heavy side especially with the 504HD head but over all, it is just what I was looking for. Which brings me to the head. Very nice construction. It pans very smooth in all directions. I have used it with a Canon XHA1, Canon 5D MkII and a Canon 7D. Needless to say, you would be well advised to set it up for your rig prior to your shoot to enjoy all that it has to give. If set up correctly, you should be very happy.

Would have preferred for the pan lock to be on the left or right instead of underneath the sled, but it is a very good light-weight tripod.

For the money, however, I expected it to be more streamlined for shooters.

The head is perfect and finally after trying couple different heads, it gave me a very smooth and steady movements and balancing of my Sony EX1R. The controls are simple and easy to use. Tripod i steady not heavy. This set up is very useful when I am on a run while shooting events. Great tripod system a little bit to pricy.
