Product Highlights
  • Uses a High Rate Transparency Film
  • Transmits 25% More Light
  • Equivalent to 1/3 Stop More Light
  • Eliminates/Reduces Reflections
  • Rotating Design
  • High Quality Hoya Glass

The Hoya 77mm HRT Circular Polarizing Filter is unique in its design since it incorporates a High Rate Transmission film that permits more visible light to be passed through the filter while still producing the same degree of polarized light. This filter now permits the equivalent of 1/3 stop more light to be taken in yet it still filters the same amount of polarized light. This can be a huge benefit to users of both digital and HD technology cameras and lenses.

Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.

This filter also contains UV properties which aid in eliminating the bluish cast on cloudy days or in open shade.

Polarizers should be a part of every photographer's gear. They are useful when you wish to increase the saturation of a blue sky or want to make the clouds stand out more. Moreover, they are handy when reflections are a problem - such as when shooting into glass or on the water.

All of this goes into increasing contrast for a more effective photo. The effect of the polarization can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.

Note! Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems without problems)

Effective with cameras that use beam splitters in the path of the TTL light meter and with AF cameras
Best way to enhance a blue sky, boost cloud detail
Eliminates reflections on glass and water
Can be combined with certain other filters to produce special effects - For example, when used with a red filter, it will simulate a threatening storm

I purchased for my Canon 24-70mm f2.8L v1 USM lens and like it better than other CLR Polarizing Filters I've used. Seems to me the HRT works as advertised to allow greater light transmission. It is also lightweight and has a slim profile. One "feature" I like better than others I have used, is that relatively small movements of the filter ring cover the entire range of adjustments of the filter, I don't find myself spinning it to find the desired setting.

used this on a recent trip to germany. used a canon 5d miii and a canon 70-200mm 2.8 and a canon 24-105 f4 both with the 77mm thread. It's a decent piece of glass for the money but I did have trouble with it in some conditions. perfect skies with perfect clouds looked great, but once the skies got a little more overcast i couldn't get it to do anything for me. the colors did get richer but nothing i couldn't do with the saturation levels on the camera. i think it's fine if you're on a budget, but if you're a serious photographer just spend the money on the better quality.

The hoya polarizer is very well built, is solid and easy to operate. You will get richer colors without vignetting even when used with a wide angle, I would recommend to buy one especially if you like landscape photography.

I use this filter on my Canon EF100-400mm IS USM telephoto lens with an addition 2X extender. The Hoya filter barely changes my camera settings as it does not diminish the light entering the lens. Its easy to adjust and performs well

I use it with Canon 24-105/f4L. It is easy to screw on and can use the lense cover on its front. It allows more light to enter but the polarizing effect is not so obvious to me when I rotate the filter. Sometimes I rotate to the right position and sometimes it is very hard. The saturation effect is not clear to me either. Other than that it can improve the image quality sometimes and there is no vignettes.

doesn't feel cheap while rotating, nor does it rotate by itself while handling the camera.

Polarizing is consistent edge to edge and the gradation is very smooth.

Not sure if it was just me using this HRT filter at wrong situations. I found out when using it at lower light situations, the center of the photo, when shooting 90 degrees perpenticular to the Sun, will be MUCH darker when shooting against blue skies. No sure if all Polarizing Filter will be like this or just this particular HRT model.

This is my second Hoya HRT olarizing filter. I was very impressed with the one I had on my other lens that I bought another for my prime lens. The only time I take it off is in low light conditions when I need a little faster shutter speed.
