The Blackmagic Design UltraStudio Pro has a built-in USB 3.0 interface that offers high-speed connectivity (4.8 Gb/s); it transmits high-quality uncompressed 10 bit HD video with maximum real-time effects and the audio level meters help in accurate audio level calibration. With an innovative design, the UltraStudio Pro has a clean front-look having all the cables hidden. Made of solid metal, the unit is strong to withstand most harsh broadcast environments.
With a powerful image processor for 10 bit quality hardware up, down, and cross conversion, the UltraStudio Pro allows quick editing and deployment in SD, 720HD, or 1080HD resolutions so that CPU time is dedicated to real-time effects.
Adobe Premiere Pro's 8 audio channels prove useful for high-quality, 5.1 surround sound editing. The unit includes a full suite of Premiere Pro plug-ins with deck control and full support for 8 and 10 bit uncompressed AVI and QuickTime files, and Motion JPEG. Adobe After Effects makes for quality broadcast graphics and animation. Special Photoshop plug-ins can directly capture and output still frames from within the Photoshop application itself. The Media Express software allows you to batch capture and playback DPX, uncompressed YUV, and MJPEG files. With the SD digital internal keyer you can key RGBA images over the video input.
You can connect the UltraStudio Pro to cameras and digital set top boxes via HDMI and get quality video from cameras. Video and audio connections include 3 Gb/s SDI, HDMI, analog component, composite, s-video, 4-channel analog audio, down converted SD-SDI output, 2 channel AES/ EBU audio, genlock/tri-sync, and RS-422 deck control connections.

Comments about Blackmagic Design UltraStudio Pro:
We use it with our Craft Edit system running Win7 64x and Adobe Premiere 6.0 - It looks cool but so far we are less then impressed since it was broken right out of the box. Some of the Audio display LCDs did not work. We have issues working in Adobe Premiere in HD with pops and video stagger. B&H are replacing the product with another - hopefully that along with BlackMagic Support resolves some of the issues?

I give up! I bought this for my notebook but i had to learn, that that won't work. Too bad.

built new computer using BlackMagic design suggested parts. great design looks great next to my equipment. Perfect video output from my PMW-EX1r. Must use with raid 0 hard drive setup for good results. The built in live keying works great and is a real time saver for doing watermarked daily proofs

Comments about Blackmagic Design UltraStudio Pro:
You would think that you could use this with a laptop. You'd be dead wrong. After looking at all the literature, specs, and talking to both BMD and a sales person I was led to believe that this would work with my new HP Elitebook laptop with built in USB 3.0. WRONG! There are apparently NO existing notebooks that can use this due to bandwidth restrictions on their USB 3.0 ports and precious few USB 3.0 adapters for desktop machines that will work. These limitations should be PLAINLY documented in the info pages for this product.

Comments about Blackmagic Design UltraStudio Pro:
I have been using a Decklink Studio 2 card for about a year or so, and I bought this for a second editing system I was building. The performance and I/O of the UltraStudio matches the Decklink Studio card, but without having to install any hardware in the computer case. Plugging in one USB3 cable is all it takes to install the hardware.
It will only work with x58 Motherboards, but that's not really a con, since you should only be using a x58 MB if you are using CS5.

Comments about Blackmagic Design UltraStudio Pro:
If you can get this thing to work good luck.
Please don't buy this product until you have bought a computer that works with it. There are only a few that do. Blackmagic can only recommend motherboards that work with it. It's not cheap and you could be left with a pink elephant if you have not forked out for the appropriate gear to compliment it. USB is here but only just so not many things work with it just yet.

Comments about Blackmagic Design UltraStudio Pro:
We use the UltraSP on set to record, playback, edit and rough composite from a range of video sources, ranging from the RED One to the Phantom to SD video taps from film cameras. So far the system is handling it very well. Also impressive is the simultaneous SD composite, HDSDI and HDMI outputs (we do actually have all three of those formats working simultaneously on set.)
Another unexpected benefit was the ability to use the GPU acceleration in Premiere Pro CS5, making the timeline editor screaming fast and mostly render free even at Uncompressed HD.
For the most part BlackMagic has been responsive to the our needs in the setup process. Like all these systems, you want to stick with the recommended specs and go with hardware RAID 0.
