The black Deca Sound Man Rain Poncho from Petrol Bags is definitely for the working pro who's out in marginal weather and needs to keep his gear at hand and dry. This poncho is made from a durable black 420D ripstop nylon and thin coating of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) that is lightweight, cool and comfortable. Seam stitching seals the poncho and prevents moisture from seeping through. It's designed to cover the user, mixer and Petrol's fully loaded Eargonizer bag. The front is transparent so you can see your equipment but still keep the rain and dust out.

It's constructed with large, roomy long sleeves that permit full access and ease of movement while using your gear, especially a mic boom. The back features an opening to promote air flow and that helps keep you cooler while outside. It is also valuable for assisting with heat dissipation from your equipment.

Both sides have hand openings and dual-sided bungee cords with anchor clips to hold the poncho firm while it's being worn. The "pass through" hand openings are marked in white binding for easy spotting and faster access to your gear. The poncho permits you to work with your boom pole at arm's length while protecting your mixer as well as keeping you dry. It comes with a handy drawstring mesh pouch and is backed by Petrol's two-year warranty.

Comments about Petrol Deca Sound Man Rain Poncho (Black):

I've been using the Petrol poncho for a couple weeks now, during a very cold, very wet shoot. As if the rain that Mother Nature so kindly has been providing were not enough, we've also been operating under a rain machine, to simulate super heavy downpours (in 35-degree weather, no less). This poncho been an absolute godsend.

While the rest of the crew has been freezing, soaked to the bone, and scrambling to keep tarps taped over their gear, I've been warm, dry, and happy. The poncho keeps the rain out, plus it acts as a very effective windbreaker.

Aside from my boom, my equipment hasn't seen a single drop of water. It's quite relieving to see all raindrops run down the clear panel on the front of the poncho, and know that none of them have a chance of hitting my mixer.

The only negative so far is I'm mildly concerned about how long this garment will hold up over time. Since there's no dedicated opening for cabling, the coiled cable running from my mixer to my boom has to go through one of the hand openings. I worry that it might eventually tear the corner of the opening. Hopefully, I'm just over-thinking it. Time will tell.

It's probably also worth mentioning that the poncho has garnered some interesting reactions from the cast and crew. They've been referring to me as everything from "Darth Vader" to "the guy from Unbreakable". But hey, I'm dry, they're wet, so I'm pretty sure I've got the last laugh.

If you record audio in the elements it's a must have in the kit. It keeps the rain out of your gear and allows you to see your controls while mixing.

Works great. Well made poncho keeps your equipment safe from the elements and rain. Really designed well to allow you to see and access your equipment. This is way better then using some cheap disposable poncho that never works. I would recommend.
