Product Highlights
  • 2 MP Resolution
  • USB 2.0
  • Fits Most Microscopes
  • Compatible with Windows XP, Vista, 7
  • Comfortable Viewing for Individuals and Small Groups

The Digital Microscope Imager from Celestron allows microscope users to view and capture images and video. Viewing any microscope's high-magnification images on a computer screen is comfortable for a single person and small groups.

The DMI replaces the microscope's eyepiece with the aid of a small coupling device. Once it is in position, connecting the USB cable allows images to be viewed on the computer's screen. The DMI is designed to work with most microscopes, and the package includes an image-capture software program.

Product Highlights

Comments about Celestron Digital Microscope Imager:

As long as you only need to do brightfield imaging with low to medium quality, then this is a fast, easy-to-use, versatile, low-cost solution.I am a high school science teacher, and it is great for quickly attaching a microscope to a projector via my laptop. All the whiteboard sketches in the world cannot replace an actual field of view captured in real time. I have successfully captured images from pre-made, stained slides of typical subjects like onion root tip crossections. The camera is exceptionally easy to use. It is automatically recognized by both Windows XP and OS X, and it was accessible from Photobooth in the Mac and the included software in Win XP. It has an automatic brightness/contrast adjustment that tries to adjust to the lighting and usually does so quite well.I use it with both my Mac laptop using Photobooth and in Windows XP through Parallels desktop. In Photobooth, I cannot get it to capture video, nor can I get it to capture images at resolutions higher than 640 x 480. It works as advertised in Win XP (640 x 480 video and 2 MP stills). With a little modification, I was also able to mount into the 1.25" eyepiece of a Celestron Starhopper telescope, and I was able to capture good daylight images. The camera lacks the sophisticated drivers that you would need to take images of stars. My main "con" is that the drivers do not allow much (if any) adjustment of key features that would allow a skillful user to take better photos. You can't even control the exposure time. That means a lot of "soft" photos and no demanding lighting conditions like fluorescence microscopy or stargazing. Also it has a built-in 15x lens that seems unnecessary considering that the microscope does most of the magnifying. All the extra zoom really does is narrow your field of view.Overall, I have a few complaints, but what do you expect for[*]? My research-grade Hamamatsu ORCA ER could do amazing things, but it literally cost 1000 times more. This does 90% of what I need it to do.

Comments about Celestron Digital Microscope Imager:

The specific camera is a very useful addition to digitize your camera view. Camera attachment is very easy, resolution is good enough. It is highly recommended for amateur biologists, entomologist and everybody looking for a cheap but dignified solution.

Comments about Celestron Digital Microscope Imager:

I replaced one of the eyepieces in our binocular microscope. I then looked at slides under various magnifications. Fed picture into laptop. Took some adaptation as now I was using the microscope controls but looking at the computer.

Good resolution at the default size. Easy to install software. Default image size is small and making it full screen (16:9, 17 inch) loses a little resolution. Not enough to make a significant difference.

Picture capture easy and the pictures are very good.

Over all will use this instead of eyepiece and so long to using the duel head for teaching or consultation.

It works on Mac with Photo Booth, software not needed. For PC, the software takes a picture and takes a video. Slide the camera into the attachment ring, slip it in your scope and plug in the USB. It's probably the easiest time I ever had with any electronic equipment. Fixed at 15X.

Comments about Celestron Digital Microscope Imager:

We use the imager (camera) on various microscopes in the company. The driver is built into Win-XP so it's plug and play (using the scanner and camera wizard). Win-7 is a little harder, but the software installs well (on the non-managed PCs).
It fits well into 23mm and 30mm diameter eyepiece openings. The bodt seems to be nicely finished aluminum.
I wish it included a cover for the sensor end.
Everyone wants one! My only problem is getting it back.
