I didn't necessarily NEED a new charger, because my original one was working just fine.....albeit with some fraying :) I got this as a gift, and I'm very impressed with how Apple has improved it over the last couple of years! The cord is thicker - hopefully this will prevent fraying, the box part is smaller, and the magnetic end is angled to where it's even with the side of the computer. Feels like the magnet is possibly stronger now as well? I was pleasantly surprised to find that the charger also came with the extension. Knowing Apple, I was afraid they'd package and sell it separately to make more money...It's convenient to have two chargers now; but great to know that when my original one dies, I'll have a fantastic new backup. I bought this adapter to replace the original one that came with my older MBP. Although Apple claims that this new adapter is fully compatible with the older adapter, it really isn't. Most of the time, this new adapter will not work with my MBP unless I remove and then reinsert the battery in my laptop first. Obviously, the laptop will need to be powered off in order to do that so this becomes very inconvenient if I'm in the middle of a session and my battery charge runs low since I'd have to quit the session, power off the computer, remove and then reinsert the battery just so I can plug the adapter and have it charge the battery. >:o(
I have a couple of the newer MBP (unibody) laptops and this adapter does work fine with those computers.
Another observation is that the AC cord and the wire that plug to the laptop are both stiff (not as flexible as the original adapter).

I am appreciative of the B&H discount for a plug for a computer (MacBook Pro) that seems overly expensive (the plug). The plug itself does what it is supposed to, though it is not travel friendly in terms of being able to make it compact for travel. And below I recommend to a friend only because there are no alternatives I know of...

This is the genuine Apple charger. It was a few bucks cheaper than the Apple store when I bought it (I thought that was impossible), plus free shipping, and no sales tax if you have is shipped to an address outside of NYS. I shopped around a lot, and didn't find the genuine Apple one cheaper ANYWHERE else.
It comes with the extension chord, if that's what you call it (the long removable wire that plugs in to the wall and connects to the actual dc converter where the two-prong plug is removed). The ad did not make that totally clear to me, but it does in fact come with it.
Even with the free shipping option it came to my house in three days total, and I live a couple hundred miles outside NYC.

I purchased this to replace my wife's original Mag Safe T-shaped charger for her 2007 17in MacBook Pro which started to fray and deliver inconsistent charges (as well as being a hazard). After reading conflicting reviews around the web as to whether this would work, I took a chance and the chance paid off...the charger works/fits perfect and she's happy...win win.

This adapter replaces one that came with a used MacBook Pro i5 that I purchased online from a private seller about a year ago. To my dismay, I recently discovered that the Apple adapter he provided was not the one originally shipped with my model; it is only 65 watts, not the specified 85 watts.As they say, you can't beat the real thing. Unlike many cheap knock-offs, this genuine Apple adapter guarantees me the full promised 85 watts and meets all required standards. I can say from experience that although it generally works, using an adapter with lower than speced output--even an Apple adapter--can in the long run shorten battery life. And if your battery is totally drained, it may not even boot the machine.According to my research, the B&H price on this item isn't currently bettered. So spend the money and get peace of mind.

Received original apple product as expected from a reputable company. This included the 2meter extension cord for the adapter. Quick shipping. B&H was the cheapest I could find to obtain this product. Many other sites advertising similar products at cheaper prices on further reading seem to ship poor quality adapters, sometimes not even the correct L shaped magnetic connection although the pictures on these sites show the new connecter.

I use this for when I'm at work and when I'm in my apartment, so it's just disconnect and go, and I don't have to take it with me in my backpack. It's nice because B&H ships to APOs for free, but Apple direct will not, so this is a great deal. As a bonus, it also comes with the full cord and not just the plug adapter.

When my original power adapter died after 3+ years one night I needed a replacement. So before my battery died on my Macbook Pro I looked around the web and found B&H had MagSafe adapters for a good price. I saw others on the web that were refurbished adapters but this wasn't one of those. I was a little worried after reading about problems with the new redesigned MagSafe adapters not working with older Macbook pro's (pre unibody) but I bought it anyway. It works as advertised charging my Macbook Pro right up.

My original adapter started shorting out after over a year of heavy abuse. First I tried the refurb from another "apple" 3rd party site...but that thing was total fail- dead on arrival..so i decided to stick with the genuine article - this is a NEW APPLE adapter in original Apple packaging, and b&h has the lowest price i could find. Good service and fast shipping. Done and done.
