Comments about Cascade Microphones Victor Long Ribbon Microphone (Black / Silver):

Pulling design cues from the classic RCA Type 77-DX mics from back in the day, this ribbon mic provides warm, broadcast/studio recording sound and is a critical mic in my daily uses.Contrary to popular belief, this mic is phantom power safe. While ribbon mics do NOT require phantom power, Cascade has built a mic that allows you to plug and play into devices that might not have any other option but to provide phantom-power. Don't get comfortable though, this is limited to Cascade. I can not vouch and do NOT recommend you use phantom power on any ribbon mics as you will fry the ribbon inside the second you turn phantom-power on. I don't even use phantom-power on on this Victor. I use this mic in a live radio weekly broadcast and in studio recordings for commercials and other voiceover bits. The price is amazing for what you get, but as you learn more about mics, they are never a one-solves-all deal. Different mics provide different sounds and should be swapped out depending on the recording situation. Also, fair warning, because these are ribbon mics you will need a pop filter, make sure you never blow directly in to the mic, and keep them away from air pressure creating devices such as bass drums. Also, keep it in the case standing upright as often as possible. Ribbon mics can provide many great opportunities for recording scenarios, test one out at B&H!

Comments about Cascade Microphones Victor Long Ribbon Microphone (Black / Silver):

I love the way this microphone sounds. I've used it only on vocals so far but it delivers. The tone really translates well for a smooth vintage vibe that is so easy on the ears. It's like butter.

I am also very surprised at how well this mic takes EQ. You can really hear the warmth of this mic by boosting a little on the high end. It doesn't take much to reveal just how awesome of a capture this mic is capable of.

I do think it has a very strong figure 8 pattern so whatever is behind this mic is important. If you have a decent room you shouldn't have much to worry about but it is food for thought. Also, I find that I have to crank my preamp gain wide open. I'm not getting any extra noise but if your preamp is not up to par I can see this being a potential pitfall.

Overall I have no complaints for the money I spent on this mic. I'm sure there is better and I'm sure there is worse but I think they hit the nail square on the head with this dynamite microphone.
