The Oben CC-2310L 3-Section Carbon Fiber Lateral Tripod is a sturdy, professional support for any DSLR, point-and-shoot camera, or a compact camcorder. With a load capacity of 17.6 lb and a generous maximum height of 65", the lateral tripod features a tilting, swiveling center column that enables infinitely flexible positioning for macro photography and other uses.
Engaging the lateral adjustment lever frees the tilting of the center column once it's been extended past the chassis, which becomes possible once you press a button at the column's bottom to disengage the safety bolt. Once thus extended, the column can tilt, with no ratcheting, from its original 0°, straight-up-and-down orientation all the way over to a 180° upside-down orientation – with possible stops everywhere in between, including a 90° lateral position. Twisting a knob on the chassis locks and unlocks the 360° swiveling of the center column and its upper collar.
The tripod's flip locks, which enable the extension and securing of the leg stages, are user-adjustable. By using a supplied Allen key, the user can tighten two points on each spring-loaded flip lock to safeguard their continued reliable performance.
With its 6x carbon fiber construction, the CC-2310L is both lightweight (the tripod weighs just 3.2 lb) and heavy-duty, ready to survive the rigors of professional work. The tripod chassis is cast aluminum for further durability.
When it's not being used in its lateral mode, the CC-2310L's rapid center column functions like you'd expect from any professional tripod, extending after a twist of the knob on the upper collar. The tripod's center column can also be removed from both the chassis and the upper collar so that it can be reversed. For protecting your camera when the column is retracted quickly, there's a rubber damper under the center-post collar. Steel locking screws underneath the center-post collar enable you to fasten a camera head more securely, after you've attached the head using the included 1/4"-20 & 3/8"-16 reversible screw.
Pull-in/push-out positive leg locks allow you to set the positions of the three legs independently at three different angles. This allows you to shoot from low angles or on uneven terrain. For stability on softer terrain, the CC-2310L features metal spikes that retract and emerge by twisting the foot's rubber portion.
- Center column travels throughout nearly a complete sphere of possible positioning, so you can take steady shots from virtually any angle
- The two included Allen keys attach to a tripod leg, so you're always ready to tighten components

Tripod used in a greenhouse setting; outdoors in New England spring garden and at an Audubon sanctuary where a number of farm animals live. Lightweight, easy to transport in carrying case, no problems with setting up or breaking down. Does the job. Have only played a bit with the lateral arm but as soon as I purchase a macro lens, I expect to use that feature a lot.

It is my third tripod and the first carbon fibre tripod. I used do a lot of landscape photography. The features of this tripod definitely will be quite helpful if I want to make the same types of photo again.
It is 500g lighter than my aluminium tripod with a 3kg less load capability, which I bought from BH Video more than a decade ago. I will carry less weight when I hike with it.
It much quicker to either lock or unlock a leg securely with a flip lock than either with a wing nut lock or a twist lock. Just be careful. Don't pinch your own fingers with those flip locks.
Its lateral centre column will let me place a tripod much easier when I need to point my camera downward somehow.
You may need to use one of the supplied alley keys to adjust the locking lever tension of the centre column and the tightness of the flip locks. The padded carry bag is a nice addition.
The above are pros of the tripod. One of the cons is that its craftsmanship is not great. Some paint in the centre column latch is already peeled off when I received it. And I never receive a human response after sending an email to its customer support email account at obensupports.com.
I should purchase the Manfrotto 190CXPRO3 3-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod instead.

I've had the tripod and ballhead two weeks and it's had a couple good workouts. An upgrade from a Manfrotto for me. I use it, so far, for outdoor macro and landscape work and it seems a good balance between stability, carbon-fiber weight and cost. It's easy enough to set-up/break-down and to use. Good tall extension and the pivot central bar and spread legs will bring the camera down to inches off the ground. The included shoulder strap makes it easy enough to carry over my shoulder, Time will tell on how durable it is; I'll be using (abusing) it a lot. Looks like it will travel by air in a medium suitcase OK. I googled Oben and read that the Oben brand was a B&H brand.

Overall this tripod is good but the legs should be spreading a little more and the first stage and there should be a weight hook ! I get it with the tag which says that there is hook but it doesn't:)! for the none windy conditions this tripod is great but for windy the only way to have more weight is to put tripod gear shelf with weight inside or camera bag... but legs it self is very stady,for the price ir great tripod and gear shelf also very handy to have

I'm pretty pleased with this product, I use it mostly for out door shots and the since it weighs in at only a few pounds this tripod is hardly noticeable strapped onto my backpack.
The Oben is also sturdy enough to hold my Sigma 50-500 zoom connected to a canon 7D with virtually no shake.
I've also used the lateral feature for macro photography.

This light weight tripod when combined with ba-1 ball hd is excellent for all types of photography. I us it for all my macro work with the horizontal capability. The legs adjust quickly to uneven ground. The strength of the carbon fiber legs gives it the strength I need in windy conditions common inmy area.

I used my new tripod on a somewhat rough trip of climbing out of a train up and down small hills and the like in ice and snow for a photo shoot. The tripod was 2 pounds lighter then my previous one, and 6 inches taller- made a great difference! No more bending. It worked as advertised. It looks a little light, but despite appearance, was stable and held up well, got a few scratches, but nothing broke. So far a good unit at considerable savings. The right size for my luggage, nice bag. Used the allen wrenches to adjust tension in the field. Plastic was OK in temps down to 14F....I also used it for video in moderate winds, no shake was observed.
