The 4TB UltraMax Plus External Hard Drive from Iomega is a high-capacity external hard drive array. It features two hard disk drives, striped together in a hardware RAID 0 configuration for maximum performance.

The drive can be connected to a computer via eSATA, FireWire, or USB 2.0. It comes preformatted for Macintosh computers, but can easily be formatted for use with Windows. It is an excellent solution for digital imaging, data backup, or general storage applications.

RAID 0 mode writes data to both physical disks simultaneously, giving you maximum storage capacity and performance.
RAID 1 mode mirrors data to each physical disk, giving you a fully-redundant real-time backup
JBOD mode treats each physical disk as a drive, allowing you to access them independently
The 3-port USB adds ports to your computer when the drive is connected via USB
Three FireWire ports provide extended connection capabilities
eSATA provides transfer rates of up to 3Gbps
High capacity storage for tons of photos, music files and videos
The EMC Retrospect Express software is a robust backup software suite

Comments about Iomega 4TB UltraMax Plus External Hard Drive:

I am primarily backing up photos. The drive was easy to set up for RAID 1. The Firewire 800 and 400 are a very helpful addition. They are also hard to find on drives lately.
The unit is solid yet compact.
The only downside is the fan is loud.

I would recommend this to a person that needs an affordable storage solution.

Comments about Iomega 4TB UltraMax Plus External Hard Drive:

I use this for storage and data back up and for hold my photos, video and editing files for both. It makes a little noise, but is still really quiet compared to what others said it would sound like. Having no issue at this time. I would buy this again. This is the second storage drive I have from Iomega and I am very pleased. I am checking out there product first when I need storage external and portable.

Comments about Iomega 4TB UltraMax Plus External Hard Drive:

It wasn't exactly plug and play on my Mac. I had to get into disk utilities and learn how to set up a raid 1. No great problem as I was up and running quickly. I feel good that I have a back up disk of everything I do. Remember it doesn't save what you undo, (that's how raid 1 works).

Having only used USB 2, I find Firewire 800 is real fast. The unit doesn't sleep so it always does what you want right now.

It sounds like a hair dryer on low to medium. I'm going to get the longest possible cable for this and put it in another room.

The only clues available on changing out a bad drive are four screws on the bottom.

Have only used it for a very short time.

Comments about Iomega 4TB UltraMax Plus External Hard Drive:

After only 60 hours of use and only 2/3 capacity full, the drive stopped being able to mount on the computer from which the data originated. The failure happened 1 hour before an invited audience were to arrive for an important media presentation of what was contained on the UltraMax drive. Three other high end computers, along with their professional computer tech owners with over 50 years combined computer experience, tried to mount the drive, but to no avail. This item was quickly referred to by the professionals as a piece of S#!*. Half of these trouble shooting tests happened the day after it stopped working to be certain that it wasn't an overheating issue. Nothing worked. "Always back-up your work" became the motto of the day. Regardless, the Iomega product was a loser-bust when it mattered most. I'll never trust Iomega again!
