15 minutes to assemble, easy to place on the monitor, and works to perfection. Snaps onto the monitor in three locations. Doesn't move or look flimsy. Actually looks as if it came with the original monitor. I use it to block out ambient and stray light while editing photographs, and this hood perfectly does its job.

I hesitated getting this along with my monitor purchase.
Assembly and mounting of the hood took about 30 minutes. The anti-glare material on the inner surfaces works really well. I've learned not to pivot the screen by using the hood as a grasping point otherwise the lower mounting clips will detach.....no big deal though. I now place hands on opposite corners of the monitor itself to pivot to a portrait position and then back again.
The calibrator trap door on top is a nice convenience for frequent recalibration cycles.
Since having the hood for a while I find it to be very useful when someone needs to use the overhead lights in my work space.

This hood, in conjunction with the NEC monitors I have in a digital printing lab, have greatly increased the students ability to print WYSIWYG. The monitors are great by themselves but this hood helps that much more.

Everything fits. Clicks into place. No light leaks. I prefer this plastic hood to a heavy metal one on another manufacturer's display.

Hood works very well for both concentration and glare. I've been editing on old film flatbed editors for years, which always had the hood designed into the viewer. Glad to have something similar for the PA241W display.

Easy, quick setup. I like the non-reflective felt material on the inside. I use this with a NEC PA241W. Does exactly what is should. Great for color critical work.

Easy to setup,great value for the price,original product. Every owner of NEC monitors who is serious about color accuracy should purchase one of these hoods along the usual accessories such as NEC colorimeters,SV etc. The cost is low taking into account that an equivalent Eizo , which includes the hood in the pacakage, costs about 1000$ more.

I am a photographer and I purchased this product to go with my new NEC monitor after looking around on the web for alternatives and not really finding anything in the same price range. The hood comes in a flat package and needs to be assembled. Doing this was a breeze; I am not sure why some people thought it needed an engineering degree... Because it is put together from several parts, the design may not be the most sturdy one though and the top just droops a tiny bit but in my setup that is not an issue. There is a trap door for calibration devices which means once you attached the hood to the monitor, there is no need to fiddle with it anymore. Overall a good product that does what a hood should do, take out ambient light and reflections.

Monitor hoods are not very complicated, so the best thing I can say about this hood is that it works as expected. Generally hoods like this are used to minimize reflected ambient light on a monitor screen, because this can throw off the colors you are seeing on the screen, and adversely impact image editing in Photoshop and other editing programs where you are aiming for accurate colors. I purchased this for my NEC PA241W and it fits nicely with no need for any adaptors. It does have to be assembled, but unlike other commenters, I found the instructions clear and the assembly easy (far easier than the hood that goes to my other non-NEC monitor). It took no more than 15 minutes and required no tools. The fasteners are custom made large plastic clips which holds the hood together and to the monitor securely. Everything else slid or clipped together. Really, it was a piece of cake, and I am not all that handy. It was also packaged well. As for features, it has a small access door on top for a calibration puck, and a felt-like surface material on the inside of the hood which I assume is there for reflection deadening. It also does not increase the overall width of the monitor so that I can rotate to portfolio aspect without any change in height adjustment of the monitor to accomodate the swing from horizontal to vertical. Really I have nothing bad to say about it. Yes, it would be nice if it was a custom fit rather than something that is adjustable to fit larger and smaller size monitors. At least on my 24" monitor, however, that does not detract. And yes, [$] is a lot to pay for a plastic housing, but it is nice to have, works as intended, and so was worth it to me.

I use it with NEC PA241W and it is great for photo editing. Good price, comparing to other sellers, but could be cheaper as it is just nothing else just piece of plastic cover.

Does the job. Good quality plastic. I haven't had to re-calibrate my LCD yet but they include a door to drop the device through. Designed specially for the NEC LCD although on my 26" it's about an inch short but this doesn't seem to impact the performance of the product. My major compliant is the price. It's a few pieces of plastic that fit together. Sturdy cardboard would work just as well and maybe painted black look ok to boot.

Very useful, cuts down the glare. But not great if you have the monitor turned vertical.

It was difficult, but I finally did it - I assembled the hood. The so called instructions are not satisfactory. Luckily I have an engineering degree. The hood is not robust. Although it supports my web cam, it seems to be flimsy. I use it with a high quality monitor for processing digital photos. The hood does keep stray light away from the monitor.

As a professional photographer, color management is a key factor when printing your work. The hood helps cut out any ambient light from the sides or above the monitor. It was a bit tricky when first starting to assemble it, but it does what it's supposed to and I'm happy. Made for the NEC monitors.

This hood is terrific and worth every penny. I can't believe that I waited almost two years to get one. Because there are skylights in my office, the hood makes a huge difference during certain times of the day. But I find it to be a plus any time of the day or night.
