Extremely nice color for my photography and video work. I do not use this monitor professionally, but in my view, this monitor is the cat's meow. I set it to Adobe RGB color space, then ran a calibration with Spider3 hardware. There was almost no difference in the before and after views in the Spider software after the calibration. That's an A+ for the monitor in my book.
The monitor puts out considerably more heat than my 23" Apple Cinema Display did. But, the recently discontinued Apple 30" puts out even more heat than this monitor, according to the specs. duh...this is a 27" monitor.
This monitor weighs in at 30 pounds. I guess I've come to the conclusion that the high end displays are all beefy. I would suppose it's because there's a lot more robust equipment inside that controls the even illumination and amazing color.
Now that Apple is out of the desktop display business, I can highly recommend this NEC PA271W for photo and video work.

Love the huge resolution and excellent color control settings. However, I can see how people have issues with the grainy looking texture of the display. It's as if there is a cheap anti-glare film over it; It is quite distracting at times, especially when looking at a white background.
The mount is very well made and allows a multitude of adjusting options.
Overall, the price is great and it's well constructed, but distracting clarity makes me say I would be afraid to recommend this to a friend.

Comments about NEC MultiSync PA271W-BK 27" Widescreen LCD Computer Display (Black):
I am a former commercial aerial photographer, getting back into the business. I have been using Dell ultrasharp color monitors in the past. I've had to upgrade because my Dell has developed color banding and can no longer be calibrated in the red channel. The NEC's increased resolution is a noticible improvement over the Dell, as it would be over any other lower resolution monitor. I have been using xrite color munki to calibrate the monitor, and with printer and paper calibration on an Epson 3880, the print colors and matching have so far been right on. This device was extremely easy to set up, very easy to calibrate, and has been no problem whatsoever. Be careful, you may have to purchase an additional dvi amplifier cable to drive the highest resolution of the monitor, depending upon your PC. I am using this with a older macbook pro, but knew about this requirement ahead of time

Comments about NEC MultiSync PA271W-BK 27" Widescreen LCD Computer Display (Black):
This is one awesome monitor - I've had it for more than a month now. I was able to calibrate it quickly and the colors are very accurate. The price is a bit steep for a monitor, but not for a Pro monitor, so if color accuracy is important - this is a great option. I got the PA271W-BK and bought the calibration kit separate from BH - it seemed like a better deal this way...As it goes with the territory - it is pretty hefty and thick, but that's expected at this level. Came with a bunch of cables (DVI, 2 display port cables, I think there might have been an HDMI in there as well) - I didn't expect this.
Came double boxed and that was great, because the outer box was destroyed (it was re-taped @ UPS facility). The actual monitor box was alright, the monitor as well - so that's thumbs up to BH on the packaging.
The Dirty Screen Effect (DSE) is definitely there, but I try to not pay attention to it and have quickly adjusted to ignoring it completely.
I don't regret purchasing this monitor and can recommend it wholeheartedly.

This is a large, sturdy product that feels built to last. Just purchased my second PA271, and I'm very pleased with quality and performance. Out of the box, the color is good, and with some calibration, it's perfectly dialed in. I like the surface finish of the screen, no glare , no gloss, ideal for graphic design work. great monitor...not the least expensive monitor you can buy, but you get what you pay for. Initially had some problems profiling the monitor using Color Munki but that was easily solved by attaching a USB cable from the computer to the monitor itself. Love the ease of adjusting the monitor position as well as the other controls. very high quality.

This monitor is awesome right out of the box without adjustments. It just gets better after that. The resolution is unbelievably sharp. I use it for day to day computer work and with Lightroom. I probably will buy a second one to take advantage of the two monitor feature in Lightroom.
The only negative is the absence of an HDMI input.

Though, be sure you use the DVI cable they provide, and not an older one (as I did). Thankfully I called right in to support and the live person [US based] immediately pointed out that I had used a different flavor DVI cable and this monitor, due to the high resolution, required the provided Dual Link.

Just bought this monitor to help me build my book, I've always used Eizos at work , and thought they were overpriced, always had my eye on NECs, finally took the plunge, I still use eizos at work during the day and bring my work home to finish up
on my NEC, the transition is seamless, I hardly notice any difference. I think the fact that I saved so much on this instead of the eizo, it looks even better! If I can I plan to get a second.(if my better half lets me). The build quality is better than Eizos. Has an awesome handle in the back as well as a lock feature on the rise for travel. If you're using a Mac DO NOT BUY A MINI DISPLAY TO DISPLAY PORT CABLE!!. Made the mistake of buying one separately because of an old review I read that complained of it not being included. It already comes with it and others.

Comments about NEC MultiSync PA271W-BK 27" Widescreen LCD Computer Display (Black):
I'm a full time working wedding photographer doing all my own post production work. I Purchased this with the NEC Color Sensor Pro & Spectraview II Software. I definitely had to do a few google search and youtube videos to get the gist and understand how callibration works and how the program works. But the effort was worth it to better understand how to think through the process & program the callibration (not as easy for me to figure out as others since I didn't understand which settings I should choose for what scenario. But after a few websearch, I totally got it and it seems pretty obvious now). Since purchasing and using the monitor, I am confident in the way my images look. Sent out a few proof prints and they came back pretty accurate. I am so thrilled and kicking myself for not purchasing this earlier. Do note for newbies to the callibration process, that the settings under "Photo Edit" will render images differently when viewing on the web. When you want to see how the images look from other people's non-callibrated screen, you have to switch your Spectraview setting to "srgb emulation". From the other reviews, there were complaints about the graininess of the screen. I don't see an issues with this. I'm a PC user, so don't know how it compares to those who use a Mac Monitor. But I am extremely happy with this purchase. Only one regret is maybe I should've gone slightly bigger to the 30". But the 27" is more than enough and better than my 24" old monitor. So get this size if budget is an issue. Also I did not have any issues with the black market version. Works just as nice and no quality control issues. So HAPPY!!

I'm a serious amateur photographer and wanted a new monitor to replace my five year old aging one. After reading extensively, and talking with local experts, the NEC was the obvious choice. B&H had them with free shipping. It is a thing of beauty, sharp crisp, wonderful color especially with the Sprectraview II profiling device and software. My prints look just like the monitor, the simple but often hard to achieve goal of any photographer.

Comments about NEC MultiSync PA271W-BK 27" Widescreen LCD Computer Display (Black):
I suppose I'm a novice when it comes to computer monitors, but then, I'm not aware of a rating system for "Monitor Ease of Use." So I upgraded from a general economical monitor to the PA271W-BK 27" and found I've had to endure a lot of internet education in the process to understand some of the bells and whistles that come with my purchase. Essentially, I wanted a monitor for my old, tired eyes that would serve my passion for digital photography very, very well. So I'll start with the Pros: Great monitor, great price. Really, and I know that doesn't do much in terms of constructive criticism, but in my opinion, the Pros far outway my nit-noid Cons. Which are: 1) The blue power light in the lower right corner is way too BRIGHT. It's so bright I find it hard to make out the adjustment buttons that are next to it. Fix: a little piece of black electrical tape hides the light very nicely. 2) The input and menu buttons need to be located at seperate corners. The input lets me switch between computers, but after staring at the monitor and with the blue power light...it's not unusual to press the menu button by accident when I want to switch computers. Especially when working on photos with the room light turned off. For that matter 3) The labling for the monitor buttons needs to be more visible given the buttons are black, the casing is black, and the monitor brightness (even adjusted down to 40) makes it nearly impossible to see the button lables. Lastly 4) The directions for set up need to be dumbed down for a novice (like me) upgrading to a NEC monitor. It took a lot of trial and error to figure out how to hook up two computers, one mouse and one keyboard to the monitor and then use the built in KVM switch and Input button to operate everything. Bottom line, the directions simply don't go into enough detail for old timers like me. Now, with all that said, I still love this monitor. My cons are nit-noid to the extreme and shouldn't overshadow the bottomline quality and capability of this monitor. It's a great buy, a great monitor, and I've yet to fully make use of those bells and whistles. Did I say I'm a Novice....

I use this monitor for photo editing with Capture One Pro 7 and Photoshop CS6.
The wide gamut color range of this display is almost a miracle. I am currently re-editing my portfolio as this monitor shows me color and contrast much more precise than my old monitor.
The price is incredible for what you get.
A great feature: in combination with Spectraview II (the software is a must to get the most out of this monitor) you can create several calibrations, e.g. one for image editing in the Pro Photo color space, one for printing in the sRGB color space, etc.
Just make sure you warm up the display before calibrating.
Also: after you turn on the display, you'll notice the color change a few times. As the display warms up, it adjusts itself to the calibrated settings. So give it a couple of minutes or more until you do color critical work.

I am a photographer and use Photoshop and Lightroom in my workflow. This monitor has made a significant difference in my work since it can display so much of the file and so much more color. It has an amazing array of settings and adjustments that will satisfy any photographer.
I wear varifocal lenses which requires that I look at the monitor from the bottom part of the glasses. This monitor has made my life so much simpler because it gets so low and tilts just right. I do not have to tilt my head backward anymore. A delight to look at.

Comments about NEC MultiSync PA271W-BK 27" Widescreen LCD Computer Display (Black):
So far I'm very satisfied with this monitor. I am however new to graphics monitors. That being said, I am a discerning shopper and I don't like wasting my time or money on lesser products. What I like about this monitor is how apparent the range and depth of colors truly is. The detail is amazing. As you make subtle changes to sharpness or contrast you can really see the difference, not so true on my old monitor. If you shoot with a high quality digital camera you are doing yourself a huge disservice by having a lesser monitor! I can't speak to color accuracy like some people can, but this display has so many ways to customize and control the settings that it's sure to please you. Check out NEC's website and you'll get a good sense for just how much they support and stand by their products. The monitor is quite large. It's heavy, and it's about 4 inches deep so be sure you want to commit the desk space. I have a certain laptop with a retina display, and if you can appreciate the retina display, you'll LOVE this NEC display!
