This panhead is a very handy for field use, where you need a quick set up and need to have the flexibility to adjust the camera/head in virtually any direction. The ability to rotate the top plate after quickly leveling the head (regardless of tripod overall positioning) comes in handy for panoramic shots. The head is quite sturdy and seems to support heavy loads well. The folding tilt handles make it easy to carry / pack the head mounted on the tripod, but because they are not one, solid piece, there is a bit of play in the tilt handles which can make small adjustments a little bit difficult. I find this innovative head to be a valuable addition to my support systems and far superior to a ball head where precise alignment is needed.

Despite the manufacturer's claims, this head is not compatible with Arca-Swiss plates. It may use its own Arca-Swiss STYLE plate, but if you have real Arca-Swiss plates, this head will not clamp onto them. I could have lived with the inaccurate bubble levels, and with the slightly less than precision castings. However, I have an Arca-Swiss L-bracket and plates, and I'm not interested in replacing those with Induro plates. I suppose if you don't already have Arca-SwissSwiss equipment, you can certainly use the supplied base plate. It's a nice design, but, unfortunately, not usable with Arca-Swiss equipment.

Comments about Induro PHQ3 PHQ Series 5-Way Panhead:

This is a very solid tripod head. The pan and tilt adjustments are very smooth. I use this head with a Gitzo 5 Systematic tripod and the combination provide a very stable platform for both video and still photography. This head is not as quick to adjust as a ball head, but the stability and smooth panning/tilting movements using this head are just incredible. This head has 5 adjustments and it does take some time to figure out which adjustment to use.

I use this head with my FujiGX680 and Canon 5DIIIs to shoot stills and video.
Solid, compact, smooth and it has lots of levels and markings. The quick release system is also very nice. The handles sometimes loosen themselves a bit since they are made to collapse for transit but it hasn't been an issue. I went to b/h to buy a geared head and walked out with this one, very happy to have done so.

Comments about Induro PHQ3 PHQ Series 5-Way Panhead:

Best tripod head I've ever owned, PERIOD. Incredibly smooth and easy to use. Travels great with the folding knobs. Being able to do use a single head for both stills and video? Priceless.

Normally I would trust the built in bubble levels over the camera's built in level but in this case its not that easy. The levels are very small and slow to move so I feel a get a better and faster alignment in-camera. Will need to further test to verify bubble levels are useable, but they will at the very least get you well within the ballpark if you have nothing else.

The second/top pivot point is where the magic happens which allows me to do some interesting things in video I wasn't able to do before.

Comments about Induro PHQ3 PHQ Series 5-Way Panhead:

My primary goal for the PHQ-3 is panoramic photography but it can be used for all types of photography. There is no other type of head that offers its flexibility of feartures.

Induro's PHQ-3's build quality is first rate.

It's price is expensive but, after all you only get what you pay for.

Comments about Induro PHQ3 PHQ Series 5-Way Panhead:

I have to admit that some reviews had the thought of me buying this item with fear and trepidation. But the curiosity got the better of me. I knew I had the ability of returning the item to B & H if I wasn't satisfied. But I was satisfied. I was impressed from taking it out of the box to putting it on my tripod and putting it through its paces. It held my fully loaded Canon EOS 50C along with my Canon f2.8 300 mm telephoto lens. I was happy.
Too soon to tell how it is after you work with it a year or two, but if I find something else to grip about, I'll say it them. For now it gets a 5 star rating. It also fits the Wimberly/Arco style dovetail plates very well.

I brought this item hoping that it would do miracle compare to a ballhead. It has impressive design and capabilities. But these capabilities are more useful if you want to do panoramic work without having a dedicated panorama head. A simple Ballhead is more faster and easier to use otherwise.

Simply the best tripod head I've used in 15 years working as a professional photographer specializing in architectural and interior work. Light weight and portable which is key for a location photographer, but extremely stable and precise, equally important for the architectural photographer.

Comments about Induro PHQ3 PHQ Series 5-Way Panhead:

I've wanted this panhead since I first saw it, and it does not disappoint. I had read some feedback about this product which made me slightly nervous at first, namely that the bubble levels are not calibrated, and that the knobs have an unsettling amount of wobble. My T-level is perfect, and while the 2 levels on the top plate were off, they are easily calibrated with a small screwdriver. 2 mins. later: calibrated. The top bubble levels are a bit sluggish, but once you understand how they respond, it is easy to work with it. As for the wobble, there is some when the handles are loose, but they are rock solid when the knobs are tight.

I opted for the PHQ 3 for (hopefully) added stability, which seems to be ample. The Archa-Swiss QR plate is nicely machined, and all the actions are super smooth and precise. The unit is a bit heavy, but not really a problem. Also, pretty expensive, but I guess you get what you pay for. Will mainly be used for landscape and architectural photography.

Comments about Induro PHQ3 PHQ Series 5-Way Panhead:

Versatile for most uses in particular to level the camera on uneven surfaces. On a recent trip to New Zealand one of my tripod leg locks broke so levelling the camera by extending the legs was not always an option, however with the 5-way head design and spirit levels levelling the camera was quick and easy allowing me to make panoramic images without the usual horizon line driftin up or down. Also being able to fold the handle made the head more compact and transportable. With only 1 month's use I cannot fault this head and look forward to using it in the future.

My first job with this head was at a new resturant last week. First I did food and then interior and exterior shoots. With a modified baseplate I was able to quickly do all the photos without any hassel. All the movements are very smooth, almost like a fluid head. The levels are to small to be of much use. I have also attached an elastic band at the base of the head to hold the folding handels in places under transport.

Extra pan control makes it easy to align handles how you want them and still have another movement for panning. Handles do have a tendency to loosen every so often, but I personally don't have a problem with that. I believe the price is somewhat high so 4 stars for value.

i recently took this head to a hot air balloon competition. as you can imagine while the balloons were approaching and passing i was shooting both individual shots and panoramas. this head made it easy. i could set the levels quickly and accurately and not miss a shot. the levels are easy to read and dead on. it was also a cinch to set the drag in different directions to allow me to swing and get individual shots as they presented. this is a high quality well built piece of equipment.

Comments about Induro PHQ3 PHQ Series 5-Way Panhead:

the wide range of head movement is very useful for precision photo stitching work. especially for single row non horizontal sequences.

weight is very reasonable, even on a gitzo carbon fiber. movements are smooth and tight. great stability. knobs lock well.

as an avid photo stitcher and experienced tripods user i am happy with this purchase and its unique possibilities.

                                      cons:
i found that some of the bubble levels are not firmly attached nor accurately set(!).

the folding handles are a drag. i'd much prefer to have them them shorter and in one piece.

the upper angle for "normal" horizontal photography is very limited.

angle marks can be thinner and closer (on all sides).

this is a well build piece of gear, however, if you do not need the unique features, i'd probably go with a gitzo low profile head for better fluid rotation and accurate leveling.
