The LM-20 2x DeskBrite 200 Desk Lamp Magnifier from Carson Optical is a great addition for any hobbyist or photographer. The flexible neck permits you to adjust the viewing angle to your needs while the large 4" viewing lens yields a bright, crisp and clear image. The sturdy base supports the optic leaving your hands free for other pursuits. The outer shell of the base is plastic and covers a solid metal interior.
The extra benefit of this system is the addition of a 5x power spot lens for added magnification - valuable when you really need to get up close and personal with details on that plastic or wood model you're making. Powered by either its standard 120-240 wall adapter or 3 AA batteries (not included), and with a weight of only 1.2 lb , you'll be able to take this unit with you anywhere.

This lamp/magnifier looks nice on my workbench and helps with my splinter removal. I do have to add additional light, as the leds just don't provide much. The optics are good. Wish the 6x spot was bigger --it's too small.

When using battery power, the built-in light does not work. To make sure, I tested the batteries in a flashlight and they worked fine. When using AC power, the light works OK although it's not very bright. The glass lens is certainly not "precision ground". When magnifying an object...if you move the object from side to side...even just slightly..on a horizontal plain...it will lose focus. You must then re-focus. If I was rating the glass lens by itself, I'd give 2 stars. But, since this item basically does what I wanted it to do, and at a fair price, I'll be generous and give 4 stars.

I work in the IT field and as my eyes get older, I have started to notice that components keep getting smaller and smaller. I needed something that was cheap, good quality and, allowed me to see the parts I'm working with.
The Carson LM-20 meets all of my criteria and is a great product for the price. The only thing I have an issue with (and this could be a problem with me rather than the lamp) is that there is a hint of blue color when looking at anything that is white. As I said, it could be me or it could be because of the LEDs used.
It still not enough of a problem to stop me from recommending this product.
