The Impact LiteTrek 4.0 DC Monolight and Mini LiteTrek (LT) Battery Pack Kit provides everything you'll need for portrait, fashion, sports or corporate photography in the field.

The LiteTrek 4.0 DC Flash Head has a 400W/s capacity, delivered in 1-2 seconds with very short flash durations. The head comes with an umbrella reflector, power and sync cords and a removable stand mount.

Power is provided by the included Impact LiteTrek (LT) Battery Pack which supplies the head with 650 maximum power flashes and 3500 minimum power pops. The battery stage is removable so you can purchase extra power potential without hauling the extra weight. Even better, the battery alone is less than 1/2 the price of the complete system. The Battery Pack comes with a multi-voltage charger. It all stows in the included sturdy 14.5 x 11 x 8.5" aluminum case. The LiteTrek 4.0 is compatible with Impact and Bowens bayonet-mount accessories when used with the optional, required reflector adapter. (Impact# 10052570)

Scott Kelby Testimonial, the World's #1 Bestselling Author of Photography Books
"Being able to use a small, lightweight, super-portable pack like this just makes things so much easier. Being able to have studio-quality lighting on location, without hauling loads of gear around makes a big difference for anybody who thinks "less is more". Used this rig last week for a dusk shoot, and it worked like a charm and refreshed much faster than I was expecting."
400W/s of Portable, Variable Power
  • Full to 1/64 Power, 6 - 400W/s
  • 2 Seconds to full recycling
  • 650 full power flashes - 3500 1/64 power
  • Quick Mode
FP, for "focal plane," produces a succession of flashes at a very fast speed in order to illuminate the sensor as evenly as possible when shooting with fast shutter speeds (typically above 1/250s). This series of flashes is usually not noticeable with the naked eye. When using the FP settings, be aware that the flash will output at its lowest power setting to compensate for the fast burst speeds.
    Easy Packing
Removable stand mount and power cord for easy packing.
    Multi Mode
Multi Mode produces a series of continuous flashes for a single exposure. These pulses of light allow you to freeze several moments of progressive motion for creative or scientific effects. Create your own Edward Muybridge-style locomotion studies.
    Multiple Triggering Options
Use the included sync cord, optical slave or Impact or other brand radio slave.
Compatible with Impact and Bowens Accessories
The LiteTrek 4.0 is compatible with Impact and Bowens bayonet-mount accessories when used with the optional Impact reflector adapter (not included). (Impact # 10052570)

I use a variety of lights for different purposes, profoto / elinchrom in the studio, canon speedlights / Qflashes on location. But I was very curious about this little flash for it's power/size/weight, and of course number of flashes with lithium battery.

Have used it on three shoots and LOVING IT so far. Great to have that extra power when trying to fill or overpower sun. The build quality is actually better than I expected.

What I love is the battery is DUAL purpose. This is BRILLIANT!! One connector for the LiteTrek and then another output which is HV for speedlights or Qflashes (using the appropriate cables). This helped me justify the cost of this kit, knowing the battery will have multiple uses.

Having a MULTI-purpose battery is very useful. On one battery charge, shot over 500 shots with LiteTrek on full-power, then used the SAME battery to power a Canon 580exII for a while… and then used the SAME battery to power a Quantum Trio full-power for another 225 shots. That's a ton work getting done with one battery charge!

The LiteTrek's power adjustment is only full-steps 1/1, 1/2… 1/64, (without 1/3 or 1/10 steps in-between) which may be limitation for some applications. But I prefer speedlights/TTL when I need that kind of control.

I don't think the LiteTrek will be my "one-and-only" light, but WOW what a great way to have that extra power out on location when needed.

I rarely use my Nikon SB-900 flashes on full power. I have blown a SB-800 and two SB-600 flashes all due to full power output situations. With this LiteTrek, I have no fears in using full power...it is cheaper to replace the flash tube than purchase the new Nikon SB-910 flash. As a matter of fact, the LiteTrek and a new Nikon SB-910 are almost the same price.

I first used the LiteTrek at a Wedding on the beach bouncing the light in a 60" Impact umbrella. The results were superb. Power was sufficient but it was not as powerful as I imagined.

I later tested the light against my Nikon SB-900 in a 13' room bounced off the 10' high, white ceiling. Both were at full power. In the end, the LiteTrek won but only by half a stop...Lightroom would have made it difficult to notice a difference.

I am having a few issues. Prior to testing, the flash did not want to turn on. I assumed that I had once again blown a Flash since I took over 300 pops at full power at the Wedding, many were taken as soon as the audible ready beep was heard (amazingly, the battery still indicates a full charge). This is when I noticed that replacing the Flash Tube is not as easy as changing the Modelling Lamp. You need a needle nose pliers to remove the Flash Tube...this is a negative for me since I am as delicate as a gorilla trying to thread a needle.

After a bit of fiddling, I found the problem. The A port was not sending the power to the flash head. I do not know if sand somehow got in the port or on the contacts but I am now using the B port via the additional power cable and it works fine.

Another issue is the umbrella slot in the light stand mount. Umbrellas are held in place by friction...very unsettling for me.

If I had to make a choice between the Nikon SB-910 and another LiteTrek, I would lean towards the LiteTrek for power output, reliability and durability. I would choose the Nikon SB-910 for convenience. I use manual settings so all of the additional modes of advanced flashes are basically unnecessary for me.

Another factor is size. I can easily fit six Nikon SB-910 flashes and seven pocket wizards in the same case that the LiteTrek came in...with room to spare. The LiteTrek is a bit bulky but I love the case. It is one of the reasons why I chose it over Alien Bees.

Despite the negatives, I do intend on getting two more of the LiteTreks to complete a portable "powerful" lighting system.

This product isn't Profoto or Eilinchrome, but most of it's features are quite remarquable : powerful strobe, high capacity battery, good construction, nice case... but difficulty to sync at my camera's (D800E) max speed (1/250) - different histograms in the studio for shutter speeds faster than 1/60, all shot at the same aperture.

Comments about Impact LiteTrek 4.0 DC Monolight and Mini LiteTrek (LT) Battery Pack Kit:

I ordered two lights and have used them for outdoor senior portraits, sports team and individual photos. My main interest was portability and consistent lighting. The lights worked well within certain parameters, but these are just basic lights with nothing special added except for great battery life and mobility. I am very comfortable shooting in manual using light meters etc.,. If you are not, then you should not get these lights without planning to invest your time and money in added light equipmentThese would have been great lights with the exception of the following:1 The LCD is extremely dim and can barely be seen in any kind of light and next to impossible in bright light2. Can only adjust light in one-stop increments which is fairly poor - any reduction would be an improvement3.Using the PW Flex system, the AC3 is not able to control the light brightness from camera. All adjustments must be made at the light. The Flex system is only capable of functioning as the trigger4. Plastic fittings and adjustment knobs scare me when an umbrella (even medium sized-42") is attached to the light and system. It just seems very weak and prone to something breaking eventually.5. Can only use at all power settings up to 2006. Using FP will only get you to 250, but power settings are limited at this speedIn hindsight these will work in the limited way that I will use them, but should have opted to spend a little more money for lights that could be more flexible. They are barely worth the [$] sales price (They are cheaper than a Canon EX600 flash). They are definitely not worth the full [$] retail price.

Comments about Impact LiteTrek 4.0 DC Monolight and Mini LiteTrek (LT) Battery Pack Kit:

The product is very versatile in that it has a very light weight battery power system which allows it to be portable. The problem with the units are the modeling light only stays on for 10 seconds. Which is not enough time to do anything good with it. The mounting materials are plastic and flimsy and the umbrella slot is only big enough to fit there own product umbrellas. The best thing about these lights is there weight and that they never have to plug in anywhere.

I use this as a primary light in studio with two other smaller lights, and out on location shoots. I have to say that I live in Kansas. Here's why this is important. It's REALLY windy here. The tripod holds true, even in this crazy wind. Does great outdoors, even in full sunlight, does great for concert shoots, club shoots, just about anything. I haven't even hardly put a dent in the battery yet. There's nothing that I don't really like about it. I'm pretty impressed do far, although I've only had it for a few months. Bare bulb exposed I could do without.

Comments about Impact LiteTrek 4.0 DC Monolight and Mini LiteTrek (LT) Battery Pack Kit:

I gave this LiteTrek 2 stars for two very important reasons...

First, the light stand mount is all but useless for anything other than the weight of the reflector. This mount is not built for modifiers that weigh over 1 pound. It will sag and droop on you with any light modifier above that weight.
Second, the false readings of the 4 led's on top that tell you how much battery life is left. Twice the battery has had 3 lights lit, erroneously telling me that I have 3/4 of my battery power remaining, and the light has gone completely dead. At that point, you don't get any led light readings. It's dead as a door nail. Luckily, during those shoots, I had a backup flash. Now, I'm not saying that the battery dies quickly. It can last you hundreds pops or more at 1/4 power. I'm just saying don't trust the battery life indicator.

This is a great location light. The only drawback is that the umbrella mount won't hold much, if any weight. I use this with a huge parabolic umbrella and I had to come up with a new system to support it.

Huge available power, light gear, great reliability, battery life is as long as advertised.
The only glitch to my eyes is that you can't adjust the power output by thirds or even half stops. Only full stops.
Or maybe I'm wrong or I didn't find how to do it properly but then it should be obvious.
Anyway, that's not such a big deal to me, since all the other qualities and the price tag really put it ahead of the competition.

Bought this unit to go with another unit that is identical except this one was half the price when on sale. Works well and is very portable and lightweight. With the li-ion battery packs you have lots of flash power to use anywhere.

Comments about Impact LiteTrek 4.0 DC Monolight and Mini LiteTrek (LT) Battery Pack Kit:

I needed a powerful battery system to supplement my AC power units yet didn't want to spend too much. This, of course, is asking a lot. I actually purchased three of these units and converters to use Bowens accessories. The units are compact and light. I will be running them through their paces in the weeks and months to come. There were a couple of things I would like to see differently . The power selector switch is in full stops. 1/2 stops would be better. There is no shell over the flash tube so the tube is exposed. I did buy Bowens flash tube cover which will protect them during transit.

The light output is great. It refreshes quickly after each flash. It won't hold a heavy umbrella in an angled position. I tried it with 7' umbrella and unless you put the light close to the umbrella it just doesn't have the strenght to hold it. Also it would be nice if impact made a case that would carry two of these lights and offer the package with two batteries. This is still a great budget light versus spending thousands on other products. I achieve great results with this and will be purchasing another package.

This light kit is great. I have used more expensive battery light kits like the Elinchrome quadra kit, and this kit performs almost as well. I highly recommend it to new photographers and those who are looking for an economic battery pack lighting kit.

I use this kit for portraits and weddings and it's just amazing. The strobe is well constructed and lightweight. The interface screen is very friendly and shows the proper information. My only complain is about the power cords... at least one of them should be longer to connect a second strobe in a safety way. If you want a second strobe, think about a second battery, that's what I'll do.

I have used this product for over a year by borrowing it from school. I finally got my own and can use it even more often now. I love the length of the battery. Also, the size and travel ability of the light itself is very nice.

Very good value, especially compared to price of other brands and considering the instant saving offer. The biggest surprise–bayonet mount is compatible with the Comet CX and CL reflectors, speed rings, optical spot and flash tube covers I've had for years. I can use all those things on the LiteTek–unbelievable! I like the fast set-up and break down, each of the 3 LiteTeks I bought has its own battery to hang on the light stand. No AC or head cords laying on the ground. Plenty of power for normal work. Good idea to calibrate the power settings yourself using a flash meter and write it down. The silver cases are too conspicuous for my taste, especially when sitting in the car or on the equipment cart. The lights are sturdy. If they break, it's probably your own fault for being too rough with them. The stroboscopic feature is just plain fun to play around with.
