Questions? Ask our experts:

The metallic bronze SE535 in-ear headphones from Shure provide top-quality audio in a sleek, compact, noise-isolating design that's ideal for use at home or on-the-road. Based on Shure's experience with professional in-ear monitors, each of the earpieces has triple high-definition MicroDrivers, in essence putting a separate tweeter and dual woofers into each ear for rich, detailed audio across the full frequency spectrum with a deep bass response. The ergonomic, professional design has a low-profile shape with an optimized nozzle angle for exceptional comfort.

The included fit kit contains multiple sizes of ear sleeves, allowing you to find the perfect size for your ear and effectively reduce ambient noise by as much as 37dB so you can focus on your music. The detachable Kevlar-reinforced cable connects to the earpieces using gold-plated MMCX connectors to lock in place but also provide a 360° rotation. This rotation, along with the formable wire, allows you to direct the cable over and behind the ears to minimize snags and tangles. The other end of the cable has a 3.5mm mini plug, as well as 1/4" and airplane adapters for wide compatibility with consumer and professional audio devices, and in-flight entertainment systems. A detachable volume attenuator is included for lowering high-output sound sources. A compact and durable case is included for storage and transportation.

Build quality: The build quality of this IEM (in ear monitor) is pretty phenomenal, these are by far the most robustly built IEMs I've owned. The cable is thick and strong, yet pliable. I doubt the cracking issue from earlier models will plague this IEM, but even if it does, the cables are replaceable.

Fit: Fit is clearly a personal thing, so my experiences may not ring true for others reading this. The earpieces are somewhat smooth though they are a few ridges on them (including the imprint of SE535 on the inside). I didn't have a big issue with the ear guides on these, though some might.

The SE535 sound in 3 words: authoritative, mid-focused, full.

Highs: These IEMs have good treble detail but the treble isn't crisp, instead it's smooth and somewhat understated. This may result in less perceived clarity than some other brighter phones. Don't be fooled though, the treble is there and it is well extended, its just that the way it's presented may sound a little dull. The treble produced by these allows for fatigue free listening. And depending on treble tastes this could be a pro or con.

Mids: Dominant and smooth. Very clear and revealing. Given that these IEMs are quite mid focused; they can sound somewhat unusual at first, depending on how comfortable you are with Shure house sound. Once you do get used to it, it really does allow you to pick out new details in the music, and at least in my case, identify a very unique sound signature to music.

Lows: good bass extension without an over-emphasized impact. If the song requires a lot of bass, these will produce it. But they'll never drown out the rest of the music (unless it was intended that way). The bass is also fast and textured. There is rarely any boom to it. I lobe the bass on these. I think they are just right in the main. If I'm listening to dub step, hip hop or any other bass heavy music, these wouldn't hurt to have another few dbs on the bass.

Sound stage: These IEMs have a very good sound stage/head stage, its not artificially wide, but it's wide when it needs to be. Sound placement is also great, as one would expect at this level, you can easily locate sounds in 3D space; whether that be forward and backwards or above and below your ear line.

In summary these are incredibly well built IEMs that produce a unique, mid centric, yet balanced sound, if you are a fan of the Shure house sound you will really love these. The recommended retail price for these IEMs are very much on the high side for universals, but if it is the Shure sound you want then this is it.

They sound good but the bass is thin. I tried several of the sleeves but the result was about the same each time. I could upgrade to the custom made sleeves but would have to spend several hundred more. I don't think so. I'm not positive but I bet the 425's are about the same with regard to sound quality and less money.

Comments about SE535 Sound Isolating In-Ear Stereo Headphones (Clear):

I am a worship leader that uses these earbuds on stage, as well as for listening to music at home. They are amazing when I am using them as a personal monitor on stage, as well as when I am listening to Hi-Res music on my MacBook Pro and DragonFly DAC. However, for my taste, they lack a rich low end and can be a little too brash in the higher end frequencies (mostly when listening to lossy music files). I usually tend to use my Audio Technica ATH-M50's when I'd like a better listening experience with my music collection.

Even with that said, they are the most balanced earbuds I've ever experienced. I would definitely recommend these earbuds. Outstanding for on stage use and when listening to Hi-Res audio, but definitely show the flaws in lossy music (like the files you would get from iTunes, Amazon, and Google Music).

Comments about SE535 Sound Isolating In-Ear Stereo Headphones (Clear):

I am the furthest things from an audiophile, but I sure do enjoy a nice pair of headphones. In the last few years I've owned the Ultimate Ears Triple.fi 10, Bose MiE2, Audio-Technica ATH-M50, Sennheiser HD595, V-moda M-100, etc. And I would have to say that these SE535's are by far the BEST sounding headphones I've ever used.

The price is hefty, but it's worth every penny. I remember listening to a few songs & hearing aspects of the songs that I had completely missed in the past. Honestly at first I was unsure of this purchase because of its price tag. But I started to truly appreciate how good these were when I tried using other pairs of headphones. I then realized I could never go back.

The noise cancellation on these are great as well. Whenever I'm out at a cafe, I can pop these in and just focus on my music and my work. It comes with different sized fitting foams for your ears that create a great seal. I personally use the yellow foams. It is comfortable enough for me to keep on for hours at a time.

You surely won't regret getting a pair of Shure SE535! It is unmatched in quality, sound, & comfort. What are you waiting for? Check them out now!

Comments about SE535 Sound Isolating In-Ear Stereo Headphones (Clear):

After 12 years of intensive of my previous Shure headset I decided to upgrade to the 535's. I am not a musician or audiophile but do like to listen to music during my almost weekly intercontinental flights. When I first tried the 535's I continued with the album I left off (an acoustic life album of my favorite band) and I was thorough impressed. I heard things I thought I had never heard before. The sound seemed richer and especially in the mid levels the sound was amazing. Then I skipped to a next album from a rock band and I was disappointed. The bass was flat and the high notes did not sound as good as I remembered and definitely not as good as on my stereo or in my car. I tried a couple more songs but the same was true there. Only on instrumental songs or songs without a lot bass did these headphones live up to their expectations.
This went on for a couple of days and I was very dissatisfied to the point that I wanted to return them until I by accident I found out that the equalizer setting of my mp3 player was inadvertently set to acoustic instead of off. After changing the settings and listening to the initial songs again I could now hear how they are supposed to sound. For the first time I could here the impact of the equalizer. Needless to say that I am now very impressed with this pair of headset. They provide great sound, good sound isolation on the airplane and are very comfortable to wear. Much better then the old ones I have.

Comments about SE535 Sound Isolating In-Ear Stereo Headphones (Metallic Bronze):

i used this product to listen to music. i like that the music is really clear and you can hear EVERYTHING that is being played. all the instruments are heard well separately and clearly. you never know what a song sounds like until you use these headphones and get to hear EVERY sound that is played.

i don't like that the base is a little bit too much, at least for me. the fit is not as good the SE530s I used to have. I like them better than these to be honest. it is nice that the cables disconnect at the headphones itself. just in case the cable gets damaged you can always get a new one.

In my opinion sound and music are 2 very different things. Music propagates my lust for life inflames temperament ( jim Morrison ) music coming from low quality speakers can also be stimulation not sound - Sound is a energy that if heard in its true and purest form can be very powerful. Shure SE 353s are a revolution in sound engeneering and quality for audiophiles.

Ridiculously pure highs and lows with clean bass specially with electronic music and also Jazz wow wow wow hats off.

Loved every aspect of the SE535s specially the fit and sturdiness.

        Worth every cent -

PS - the guys at BNH are great at there product knowledge sell the product on what its really worth.

Great quality product. One drawback is that you can hear all the MP3 quantization noises that you were not able to hear through normal headphones. But that's a common problem of all in-ear-type headphones. However, this problem can be resolved by connecting the accompanying volume control unit.

If you have the means I highly suggest picking up a pair. Music rendition is perfect...every tone every vibration is exactly perfect. The finest listening experience I have ever had! Started with a pair of 110's and then moved up to the Se215's. They were stolen a few months later and I decided to go all the way and get a pair of the SE535's. Absolutely NO regrets. I actually shutter to think about what I would be missing out on had I not purchased these.

Possibly as good as an in ear headphone can get. The biggest problem is everything in the $100-$200 range now seems inadequate.

These are very solid and well made but take some practice to find the perfect position. Once you do they are very comfortable. I just ordered custom ear plugs for these. My ear canals are at an odd angle and are narrow. Off the shelf plugs don't fit me perfectly, but for many they will. Try those first.

The most noticeable audio quality is the depth of imagining. Very close to over the ear cans.

These in ear phones sound great. You really can hear everything in a clear and unadulterated way. Good recordings really shine, but I'll have to say, being a 50's something person, my old rock favorites sound better than ever as well. I have some B&W Society of Sound recordings that sound amazing through these earphones. I travel to Asia numerous times a year, and look forward to using these on the 14 hour flight.
They are a little awkward putting in at first, but not bad once you get the feel of it. You know they are well seated when you can't hear a conversation less than 10 feet away.
I also own a pair of Shure 210's, which are very good for the price. These really stand out as having much more dynamic sound quality.

Comments about SE535 Sound Isolating In-Ear Stereo Headphones (Metallic Bronze):

Having owned many Shure headphone models, I finally decided to go up to their most expensive. I was not disappointed. The sound is second to none, the build quality is superb. It comes with many different size ear pieces and the ability to go to an audiologist to get fitted for custom sized inserts.

It also comes with a volume control that attaches to the cord, but that is of poor quality. The plastic sides have already split apart simply from putting the plug in. That is why I deducted one star from an otherwise excellent product.

I would not use these to workout as I'd be afraid of sweating into them. They are too expensive for that.

The cords bend over your ear, and they could be a bit thinner and more pliable for that. They don't really stay bent well as they should. Just too thick I think.

One thing that really stands out about these, and even the lower end Shure lineup, is they completely seal out ambient noise. Excellent for flying. No need for those big Bose noise cancelling headphones. These do it perfectly.

They sound good but the bass is thin. I tried several of the sleeves but the result was about the same each time. I could upgrade to the custom made sleeves but would have to spend several hundred more. I don't think so. I'm not positive but I bet the 425's are about the same with regard to sound quality and less money.

These are the best in-ear headphones I have used. Proper placement in the ears is important for sound quality. They fit somewhat better than the SE 530. They are expensive. The Bose QC 15 is significantly less expensive, but is over the ears and cannot be carried in your pocket. Shure has very good customer service. I have sent previous models in for repair and there is never a problem.
