Install the 2-Port USB 3.0 PCI Express Expansion Card from Transcend to add two USB 3.0 ports to your computer. The USB 3.0 standard supports data transfers as fast as 5Gbps, more than ten times faster than USB 2.0. The card is fully compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 devices, and is designed to fit in a PC with an available PCIe slot. The PCIe slot must be connected to the power supply via a molex connector.

I bought this to go with a USB 3.0 External Hard Drive. I ran the software that came with that drive to back up data, and also made a forensic image using dd on Linux, prior to attempting to upgrade Windows XP up to Windows 8. I then had to restore that forensic image; i.e., I wrote its contents directly to my internal drive. That was a very fast operation. I'm not sure it was anywhere close to 5 Gb/s, but I feel the speed of my internal drive was more of a limiting factor to the speed than the PCI card or the external drive.
If I had to choose something not so great about this card, it'd be the drivers. It took several tries to get them installed (in Windows XP). The Setup.exe file never did anything; instead you have to use the Add or Remove Programs dialog and point it at the right directory. I can't remember which one it is, but it takes some poking around. However, when I booted into Knoppix, it recognized the card immediately without any additional action. Newer versions of Windows (with USB 3.0 support built-in) may work as easily as Knoppix, or they might not.
For the price, I'd say you can't beat this.

First off, once you get it installed, this adapter does work, and that counts for something.
However, there are reasons why it costs very little, and they add up to there is very little in this.
For instance, it needs a device driver, but none is included. The directions, in which the English text is there if you but look for it, provide a website address for the driver. The address is non-existent, and getting close to it gets you to the manufacturer's Taiwanese website. In Chinese. No joy there.
So, a Google search for the driver, using the adapter's part number, gets you the URL of the proper web page, and away you go. It took us two tries to get the driver recognized, but that might have been nothing worse than bad karma.
Power for the bus comes from a power supply lead in the computer, so you will need not only a spare power lead but an extension cable to get it all the way over to the back of the computer. The power supply lead by itself will likely not reach. The instruction sheet shows an old-style Molex connector, and that's what you get. Not the current SATA style power connector.

Comments about Transcend 2-Port USB 3.0 PCI Express Expansion Card:
I'm very happy with the 2-Port USB 3.0 PCI Express Expansion Card from Transcend. Be aware that this card requires power. I had to purchase an additional SATA power extension cable and connect it to an unused power connector so that I could extend it across to the new board. Once I had the power cable in place it worked fine.

Comments about Transcend 2-Port USB 3.0 PCI Express Expansion Card:
The installation was very easy. You do need either a 15 pin sata type cable or a basic 4 pin power cable that will reach from the power supply; like the one that is used to hook up to a DVD drive on an older computer. I have an old Windows 98 computer and salvaged a cable out of it (female to male). I installed this in a about a 2006 Dell E510. The driver had to be found on another website. Someone else who rated this for B&H has the webpage listed. I believe it was driver 30230. The one numbered 21390 didn't work for me. I intend to use it to power a external 3.0 HDD.

I use the product mainly for fast creation of system images on Win 7 computers. It has saved me two complete system rebuilds. It has worked very well.
It was easy to install physically and the driver download and install was straightforward.
The one problem that I have had so far seems to be software driver related. Accessing the drive or other usb devices during a transfer can cause the driver to hang.

Product works fine and fast. I have Windows 7 64bit. I couldn't get the driver from the Transcend website to work. Found out this card had a Renesas/NEC USB controller chip onboard. I went to the site that had the drivers. The exact driver is uPD720201 & uPD720202 ver 3.0.23.0For Windows 7 Users. Once you download it, unpack/unzip the downloaded file, click the installation file and install. Or right click on "my computer" select "properties" select "device manager" (located on left column) right click on the "usb controller" the is outstanding. Select "update driver" choose "browse my computer" and locate the extracted folder and click okay.

Easy to install and worked with no problems. A must have to if you are running external USB 3.0 drives. It will at least triple data rate transfer compared to USB 2.0.

I bought a 3TB external HDD but my system lacked USB 3.0. So this card was an inexpensive addition in order to take advantage of USB 3.0 speeds. I would like to say everything worked fine out of the box, however, I didn't realize this card required additional power from the PSU, not the PCIe bus. And it requires a molex 4 pin source. I had none available so I had to order a SATA to molex adapter. When that arrived, everyhting seemed to work fine. But, I receive occasional disconnects of devices connected to the USB 3.0 card. I suspect it may be when the PSU is unable to provide enough power to the card. I don't know. It's an issue I can live with.

Comments about Transcend 2-Port USB 3.0 PCI Express Expansion Card:
So I got this to for its USB 3.0 capability; however, Windows seems to have a known problem with recognizing the 3.0 capability. The card works fine at 2.0 speeds. I researched the problem online and it seems many people have the same problem with these USB 3.0 PCIe cards. It's actually a Windows 7 problem, but nonetheless it makes purchasing these cards useless.
Aside from that the card was easy to install in the slot. The drivers from the Transcend site were not 100% easy to figure out which one to use, but I figured it out eventually and the ports started working as expected (obviously minus the USB 3.0 capability).
All in all, it's a fine card. I only wish I could use it for the reason I bought it.

Installation was simple and easy. Make sure that you have extra, X1 or PCI express 16 slots. You need to download the software from the website which is also simple and easy to do. After installstion of software, you just need to use it without any worries. Your computer recognise it automatically. Enjoy!!!

Installed to a 2008 PC; USB 3.0 works great with an IOSafe disaster-proof hard drive. A great buy! Was my first time using B&H, and would recommend to others.Recommendation: Since this card is small, at 65mm deep, plan ahead that your internal power cable will reach. It has both 4-pin old standard as well as (15 pin?) SATA power ports on the card. I had to buy an extension cable (~$) to bring power to it inside an Acer mini-tower PC. In my experience, most power cables won't reach that far to the rear of the case without an extension.

Definite imrpovement over USB 2.0 but did not notice the requirement for a non Sata power source into the PCI express card; had to buy an extra cable that converted my Sata power supply to the old IDE power supply in order for this to work.

Only one port worked on first card, but both on 2nd. Easy to install, cheap (because they make you go to their website for drivers, none are included). Fast USB 3 xfer speed, probably limited by the device that is connected. Can xfer 2gb to my Hitachi Touro in about 20 sec, fast enough for me.

I needed a high speed USB port, and this card was super-cheap. Turned out it was also easy to install (took only a few minutes for most of it), and the driver ran great on the first attempt. The only trick was that this version of the card has an old-fashioned 4-pin IDE-style power connection, and my box only has SATA power, so I had to track down a SATA-IDE adapter. That said, it's still cheap, fast, and easy to work with, so a solid win in my book.
