Comments about Adesso Desktop Optical Trackball Mouse with Scrolling Wheel:

This trackball is the price leader in its category. Its main competitors are the Logitech Trackman Marble and the Kensington Orbit, both of which B&H also carries. The Adesso has a bigger ball than either of those, which counts for something with me, and it works with silky-smooth precision. It also has a proper scroll wheel, and it looks great on your desktop. But the placement of that scroll wheel makes this definitely a right-handed pointing device; lefties will have to operate the wheel with either a pinky or ring-finger. I actually tried it, and it's no fun.Logitech has ergonomics all over this trackball. The flexing-panel buttons are shaped such that the widest areas are above the ball, and that's where the user is expected to press them, taking the fingers OFF the ball, and reaching OVER it (don't disturb it!) to do so. Good luck doing a drag-and-drop! The "buttons" CAN be operated by pressing next to the ball (as one would with the thumb), but the effort is excessive and the feel nonexistent. Ultimately, I ended up reversing the "buttons" in Windows, just because I found it easier to operate the right one with my middle finger (sorry!) and work out just how to "right-click" on the left one when the matter came up.If you like what you see, the price alone makes the Adesso worth considering; the price doesn't affect the quality of construction. But it's likely to leave a bad impression with a first-time trackball-user, who could end up being turned off to trackballs altogether.

Comments about Adesso Desktop Optical Trackball Mouse with Scrolling Wheel:

It took a day or two to retrain my hand but now I am moving faster than I had with any trackball I've used before. Forefinger is for left click, middle and ring finger for the ball and little finger is for right click. Thumb is just for scroll wheel which I use a lot for CAD. (Do not use you thumb for left click!)Kind of like going from playing a piano with one finger to using all of your fingers, takes practice but worth the effort.

Love scrolling; not the best t/b mouse

Comments about Adesso Desktop Optical Trackball Mouse with Scrolling Wheel:

I love trackball mice, but most don't use a built-in scroll wheel - you usually 'program' a button for scrolling, and you hold that button and use the track ball to scroll. The problem is that the software/driver that accomplishes this is usually a bit buggy.
The Adesso mouse solves this problem - it uses a built-in scroll wheel - and the scrolling feature works great.
Unforutnately, the mouse is not ergonomically sound - the left/right click mechanisms for the mouse really only work at the very front of the mouse, not on the sides (I know, it looks like it goes all the way down the side, but the mechanism only 'clicks' at the very front). So you have to 'reach' over the trackball to execute a click. This is definitely bothersome in general use; and even more so when you need to click and drag.
The Adesso mouse would be 5-star if you could execute a click on the side...

Comments about Adesso Desktop Optical Trackball Mouse with Scrolling Wheel:

Responses very fast relatively to other mouse/trackballs. Makes it inconvenient as a second mouse (which is my use case). I have found the placement of scrolling wheel very good. The placement of the left and right click are not so comfortable for me.

Comments about Adesso Desktop Optical Trackball Mouse with Scrolling Wheel:

I have 2 pull out keyboard trays on the under side of the computer desk that I built. The long narrow design fits the keyboard tray very nicely. I plan to purchase a second Adesso 1.8"Ergonomic mouse for the other tray. There are other brands of trackballs on the other 3 computers which are either uncomfortable or too large for the space. At the risk of seeming obsessive, I will eventually purchase this trackball mouse for the other computers.
