I am a pro concert and event photographer. I shoot fast-moving action with the need to change settings and angle very quickly, moving from horizontal to vertical and back again. Overall, this battery grip works, with a few exceptions that can be frustrating in a quick-change environment.
When the battery grip is turned on and used to adjust settings, I have experienced a few instances where - returning to horizontal and using the on-camera buttons (i.e. focal point, etc.), the on-camera changes are locked out and I have to turn the battery grip off.
I have also noticed that the grip doesn't seat completely to the camera body, instead leaving about a 1mm gap at places.
Overall, it's a good grip for someone who doesn't need to make quick changes, but I wish I had purchased the Canon grip instead.

Comments about Vello BG-C4 Battery Grip for Canon EOS 7D:
I purchased this grip mainly for use at high school basketball games. It gets a little crowded and I was elbowing my wife in the head when switching to portrait mode. The vello grip fits my 7D really nice and looks good on there. The battery door is a little loose but not as loose as my friends Vello grip for his 5D. All in all I am very happy with my purchase. Compared to the original equipment it is a pretty good deal.

Comments about Vello BG-C4 Battery Grip for Canon EOS 7D:
A cheap product that does the job just the same. I would admit that I was having second thought buying this gear bec. of the price (cheap), but when I fit it on my 7D, it looks awsome, you would not believe that it is an inexpensive gear. It fits perfectly, functions perfectly, this is perfect for me...

Comments about Vello BG-C4 Battery Grip for Canon EOS 7D:
Can only compare with the Canon BG-E2N from my 40D. Very similar in size, all the controls you would expect, covering is more grippy/rubber like. Build seems to be of equal quality, so all in all great for the price. I can see no down side to this. Will only know if it is long lasting and reliable in time.

I use it on my 7D when shooting sports. It allows you to use back button focus when the camera is in the horizontal or vertical position. Only nit pick I have would be a bigger back focus button would be nice.

Comments about Vello BG-C4 Battery Grip for Canon EOS 7D:
I owned this grip on a previous canon 7D that i owned. I have since purchased a second grip after having to replace my 7D, because my 7D was stolen. I have never used the more expensive grips but this one does everything i need it to do. Reliable and the button options to turn your camera vertical are great. No need to spend the extra dollars, this gets the job done.

Comments about Vello BG-C4 Battery Grip for Canon EOS 7D:
I have a vert grip on my other 2 cameras. This is what I needed since I am not used to not having one. Attaches easy. The only problem is that the battery door is a little loose. I don't know if that is normal for this model or if it supposed to be sealed better. It's a little annoying. Makes me a little uncomfortable if it is not sealed well, but it could just be the hinges. Feels good in my hands and makes it easier to hold vertically. Construction feels solid. Obviously not compared to my 1D though, since that comes as part of the body.

I have this one and the Canon version. Pretty comparable, though it was much cheaper. Bought on sale, I could buy 3 of these compared to the Canon version. Only concern, though I notice it on the Canon BG-E7 as well occasionally, the battery door has a slight wiggle to it when I hold the camera vertical.

While shooting, be it a sports event or a wedding, the less you have to think about your gear the more you can focus on the event. This battery grip lets you take up to about 1,000 more shots without having to change batteries. It fits perfectly and costs about half what Canon charges. Although it does add bulk and weight, I tend to just leave it on all the time.
