After less than one year of use in my D90, the batter grip stopped working with 2 batteries. If I put 2 batteries in, it indicates that the batteries are dead and camera will not turn on. If I use just one battery, in either slot, camera turns on and reads 100% battery life. I have a total of 6 batteries and have tried all of them, so I know it's not a battery issue. It was great while it worked, but for a few $$ more, there are better options. This is one example where you get what you pay for.

At first was was very unsure if I should have spent more and bought the Nikon brand for my D90. Read to many reviews about what could go wrong, but what it costs it's replaceable. What a great attachment to have and not worrying about running out of power. 1500+ pics using the Nikon batteries. Just makes the D90 feel so much more balanced and stable. Should have bought this Vello battery grip a long time ago.

So glad I purchased this. Love how it holds both batteries and there is a place to hold the battery door. I also like that there is a shutter button on the grip for when you are holding the camera vertical. The only thing I don't like is that the AE-L button doesn't seem to communicate with the camera which is a pain because I use back button focusing on my D90 but otherwise I love the grip.

Comments about Vello BG-N2 Battery Grip for Nikon D80/90:
I just wanted to make the camera feel special. The Vello BG-N2 Battery grip was just the trick. It has a two Nikon EN-EL3e Li-ion battery capacity, which I like because it assures me of battery power during my shots. It can load up to two batteries and shoot all day or just shoot with one while the other is in the charger. It even has a cartridge you can load up with AA batteries for emergencies. The easy opening door at the rear of the grip makes loading a snap! Additionally, it has an a trigger and controls for vertical shooting built in for ease of use. Best of all it's a perfect match with my D90 and it looks great!
Note: I have rather large hands and the grip enhances my grip, adding additional room for all of my fingers to fit. I must say that you get exceptional quality for the price when you buy the Vello battery grip. I bought mine through B&H Photo where I am alway assured of quality merchandise. This is one item worth checking out if you are looking to make your D90 feel special again.

This is a light-weight accessory and is packed with "peace of mind". I followed the directions to the letter and had no difficulty installing it to my camera body. I don't find it adds that much weight to my camera and I love the feature where I can take portrait images with ease as there is another shutter button that when you turn the camera it is at the top! No more contortions! With two batteries you can shoot all day and never have to worry!

Granted this is a generic version of the Nikon MB-D80 Grip it's still a highly affordable battery grip. I like the fact that I can use either 2 EN-EL3e'S OR Six AA batteries. My shooting time is greatly extended by either choice I make.

This grip is used on a D90 in the heat of summer. And this summer is seeing record heat. I just goes and goes and goes.
I bought this to replace a dead Nikon grip, and I did not want to spend all that money for a Nikon grip. It does everything the higher cost Nikon does, at a far lower price.
Are there any cons? Only if you consider the lack of the "Nikon" name on it important.

PROS: it is exactly what you ordered. It will make your D70 - 90 "look" like a bigger camera. I know when I was starting out having equipment that looked pro made me feel better, so I would recommend this.
CONS: Is it really needed? I thought it was so I ordered 2 for each of my D90s only to discover that the beauty of my D90s are that they are small and easy to handle. I thought I might need the vertical shoot button, but I didn't as I have no problem turning the camera on its side. And the extra battery power? Might prove useful, but I find it's far easier to keep a spare battery in my pocket.
