The HR-5 from Jammin is a palm-sized digital audio recorder that produces professional-quality results and is ideal for musicians, journalists, podcasters, and more. The HR-5 can record WAV files at rates up to 24-bit/96kHz and MP3 files at up to 192kbps for terrific versatility. The unit has 2GB of onboard storage, which can be expanded thanks to the SD/SDHC memory card slot. A built-in stereo condenser mic captures crisp, detailed audio, letting you work without attaching extra equipment. Standard 3.5mm mic and line inputs let you attach an external microphone, music player, or other audio device as well.

For reviewing your files, you can play back audio through the onboard speakers, or the standard 3.5mm headphone jack. A USB 2.0 port allows you to transfer files to your computer for manipulation and sharing. Magix Audio Cleaning Lab SE software is included for making your files sound perfect. Other features of the HR-5 include VOX, ALC, and 3D Hall effects, as well as EQ and ID3 data display. The recorder operates on a pair of standard AA batteries, and provides up to 12 hours of operation. A line-out cable and tripod stand are included.

    There doesn't appear to be a way to add a power source other than the batteries, and that restricts the ease of use and the ability to record more than 2 hours without changing batteries. The power source listed as an accessory does not work. Otherwise, will work for short periods.

          This is difficult to use. The manual is very poorly written and difficult to follow because it is not well explained. Important information is at the back of the manual instead of on the first page of the manual. For instance: at the back of the manual when it is going through an explanation of how to format the internal disk, there seemed to be an afterthought made about installing the software FIRST prior to formatting the disk....... I had to email the company and talk to a rep on the phone. He sent me a copy of the software over the internet and it doesn't work well and is difficult to use. The time I have put into using this thing and getting frustrated when attempting to download my recordings to the computer has not been worth the money or time. Save yourself some time and frustration by purchasing something else. Anything else.

          Bought this for both myself and wife to use. I wanted it to record off my mixer and our parish mixers. For my wife I wanted her to be able to records and play back her Choir practices.

          It did not meet those needs so I returned the unit and I will get a different brand.

          The whole unit is plastic and very lightweight and doesn't look like it will last long.

          The built in stereo speakers sound terrible and at top volume setting you can barely hear playback in a quiet room.

          Getting between menu sections is hard and often have to power off and on to do so.

          Adjustment buttons are very loud so make sure you have it set how you want before beginning to record.

          Recorded sound was great via internal mikes or line input. Play back over a decent pair (not the included earbuds) of headphone or when piped to mixer or external powered speakers was also very good. I almost kept the unit because of the sound. That was until the unit froze the 4th time in 2 hours. That's when I packed it back up and started the RMA process. Prior to this it had locked up two other times in 2 days.

            The recorder is pretty simple to operate, and the sound quality is good; full-range from low to high. The visual indication of recording levels is very handy indeed.

            Using the memory that comes with it, you need to change out of "highest quality" setting or your record time is very limited.

            All in all, this is a good tool that does what it claims to. A few minutes of study should allow any operator to use it effectively.
