The DN-200 includes a pre-record buffer that captures video starting at 8-seconds before you hit the record button, and can be very useful in capturing sudden or unexpected situations in applications such as research monitoring or location security. Allowing you to set a record date, the recorder can also read the digital time code from an incoming DV signal. Our customer have a special car used to recognize the roads (they work with the state making signals for the viability of roads in our country). This special car have a PTZ camera on the root and inside the car there's a dedicated cloche for moving the camera on the root. They asked us to find a recorder for this system, simple and portable, and the dn-200 was the right choice.Very good instrument and very good market.

Comments about Datavideo DN-200 DV/HDV Hard Disk Recorder:

I purchased this unit to record firewire and composite video. The unit went into the record mode with a composite input, when I transfer the files they were completely corrupt and unusable. I called Datavideo and they exchanged the unit, got the new unit and it had the same issues. Tried a firewire input and it worked fine for a couple of months so I decided to use it only in the firewire mode. I recorded a day long event and transfer the files, the audio was unusable with a very loud digital noise. Fortunately, I also recorded an MP3 file which saved my @#$.
I sent the unit back to Datavideo and when it returned it still had the same issues. Why is this company still in business? I have used Nnovia products for years with no issues...what happened? Nnovia was purchased by Datavideo in case you didn't know.

Comments about Datavideo DN-200 DV/HDV Hard Disk Recorder:

The DN-200 seemed like a great addition to our public access TV station, as we currently have only MiniDV cameras. We were planning on using it to shoot single camera sporting events and transferring the video files for a quick turn around to airing the program, instead of having to capture from tape. The first unit that we received did not function properly, so it was retuned to DataVideo. They were great about replacing it. Received the second unit and used it a few times, it always gave us issues of some sort:- stopped recording at random- had corrupted files even though it seemed to be recording- recorded video but audio would drop out after a few minutes- wouldn't always connect to either PC/MacI don't know if there was just a bad batch manufactured but I ended up with two of them. Thankfully B&H came through and gave us store credit on the return.

Used this device twice now to recod live events and both times it has failed while recording. First time it stopped about 40 minutes in and today it stopped 4 minutes into the event. NOT HAPPY!

The most dissapointing feature of this product is that you can't monitor the output via Analogue outputs when using Firewire cable from your camera - This is most important as if the signal drops out, you won't know about it till you load the files to your computer. Poor Oversite.
