The XP40iW from Samson is a high-quality portable wireless PA system ideal for indoor or outdoor use. The system consists of a 2-way speaker and a wireless handheld microphone for excellent mobility.

The speaker cabinet contains a 6" woofer and 1" tweeter, powered by a highly-efficient 40W Class-D amplifier to provide strong, clear sound. The built-in VHF wireless microphone receiver makes it simple to use the included microphone. The rear of the cabinet offers an XLR/TRS combo input with phantom power, as well as a 1/4" input and a 3.5mm Aux input. A 1/4" link in/out jack makes it possible to connect an additional speaker to create a stereo pair.

The speaker also features an integrated iPod dock with an independent level control, allowing you to play pre-recorded material or a backing track to your live speech. Bass and treble controls let you adjust tone, while an integrated handle makes transportation a breeze. The speaker runs on a rechargeable battery for a long performance life.

Comments about Samson XP40iW Portable Wireless iPod PA Speaker:

First and foremost, beware that this speaker is HEAVY. Mfg says 23lbs. It's not bad for carrying short distances but you may want a luggage cart for longer hauls.Pros:Loud! I was blown away at this speaker's output. It's very loud for it's size. Not a lot of bass but still very good. It projects VERY well and fills a large space. (Put it on a tripod and in a corner to help projection and bass output.)Built in wireless mic receiver.Pretty much every input that you could want.iPod, Mic, Aux (1/8" stereo, line level), instrument inputs.Clip indicator to tell if the audio level is too high.Speaker stand socket on bottom.Large 9AH battery for a long run time. (I didn't test it, but you should get a solid 3 hours at full volume.)Nice large carrying hand pocket molded in to top of speaker.30-pin iPod dock that charges iPod when speaker is on.iPod dock is big enough to hold a thick (old 160GB) Classic with a case on it.Mic transmitter accepts any Samson mic with a 1/8" screw-on connector. I have both the SE10T and HS5.Cons:No master volume level. You have to adjust all of the levels independently in order to raise/lower the volume. Not too bad if you only have one mic and one source.Ships with both a handheld mic and a headset mic. You can only use one at a time! They are on the same channel and there's only one mic receiver built in to the speaker. To use both, you'd need an external receiver and a mic with a different frequency. No battery level meter. Only green/red indicator.Power adapter cord is only 6' long. It would have been nice if it was 10-12'.Wireless microphone is fixed frequency. You can't change the channel to get rid of interference. Plan carefully when purchasing.iPod is only supported by connector. It would have been nice if there was some backing plate for it to rest up against so that when you push on the click wheel, all that strain isn't just on the connector.Notes:Even thought the iPod dock is 30-pin, the manufacturer made it removable with two screws. It'd be interesting to see if they offered dock upgrades for newer 8-pin iDevices. The internal battery is a sealed lead acid, "gel cell" type. When storing the speaker, you should leave the speaker plugged in to the charger. This will keep the internal battery charged. Unlike NiCd and NiMH batteries that can be damaged when left on a charger, a gel cell battery's life is extended by being float charged by being left on the charger all the time.
