I use this product at work for the two computers in my office that do not have SD card reader ports. They are so light weight that you can easily carry them in your laptop bag without any worries. Even though the SD cards do not 'click' into place like most readers, a red lights turns on while a connection is being made with the device. The only real complaint would be the length of the USB cord. Great low cost product. It has paid for itself in the first week of use.

Comments about IOGEAR 50-in-1 Portable Card Reader:

I used this device maybe 20 times since getting it in September as a backup for my venerable SanDisk SDDR-89. Editing after a state football championship game, I got a message on my MacBook Pro about too much load on the USB port and the thing went dark. The way the USB connector is designed places too much strain on the small wires which cracked and failed (see photo).

This superbly-built little device reliably transfers 3 gigs of photos to my computer in 3 minutes. My now-retired card reader took 2-1/2 HOURS to download 3 gigs--really!!! I have wasted hundreds of hours over the past few years using a long-outdated card reader and not realizing it. This is an inexpensive, fantastic little device that is reliable, well built, light and small and most-easily carryable.

It is good to have a reader that will just about read anything. Wish it had a longer cord as it just hangs from the USB port. Would be great if hooked to a laptop.

It works fine for a lower price card reader. You just have to watch when you insert a compact flash card. If it doesn't go in straight it will bend the pins. you got to be easy with it. I was out of town and didn't want to buy another one when I had a good one left behind. It does the job and will still do the job if you are easy with it. Common sense.

Wanted to use this reader to transfer my pics but of the 50 cards the reader says it will work with, my smart media card does not fit in any of the slots. Disappointing.

I just bought a Zoom recorder with an SD card and needed a reader. We used this card reader in film school, so I bought what I was familiar with. As we discovered in school, it's somewhat fragile and needs to be treated gently. However, with proper care, it will last. And you can't argue with the price.

I bought 2. They were so-so. I've had 2 bent prongs so far, but I straightened them. Then the wire housing on both has snapped where the cord enters the device. They won't read anymore and my computer warns "the device is overheating."

I really like the design and the look of this card reader, but had a huge problem getting it to read CF cards in my Macbook. Each time I put a CF card in the reader, there was an error message about not enough power to use the USB, so the USB would be shut off until sufficient power was available. I'm not sure if it helped or not, but I had somewhat better luck when I used the Macbook connected to a power supply. I do not have problems with my other (LaCie) cardreader, which is basically the same construction, so I really don't understand if I just got a lemmon or if it is this model that isn't so good. Since I purchased it at B&H in NYC and live overseas, it's not really worth it for me to return the item. However, I probably will not purchase this item again, nor can I recommend it.

This is a very inexpensive reader and as always you get what you pay for. If you are a pro I would recommend a better model. This one has consistently slower transfer rates than other readers I have. The build quality is also very plasticy.

I bought two to throw in multiple bags so that I don't have to remember if I brought a reader, but even though it's cheap I would recommend a better reader.

Comments about IOGEAR 50-in-1 Portable Card Reader:

Works fine and accepts just about every memory card that you can think of. My main reason for purchasing the Iogear 50-in-1 was to download Compactflash card photos into my laptop as my laptop only has a port for an SD card. Working to download photos with a USB cord from my Nikon D700 is too cumbersome, so the Iogear 50-in-1 does the job.

I knew about the short cable and decided to buy anyway. The cable is short, but workable with USB hub.
