    Very well built

Comments about Domke Insert for ProPack 414 Backpack:

The padding is very thick and protects your expensive gear perfectly. The inserts are easly removable to adjust to your likings and will fit a fullbody dslr with grip perfectly.

    Pros

    • Durable
    • Easy to Use
    • Good Dividers

    Cons

    • Loose Fabric

    Best Uses

Comments about Domke Insert for ProPack 414 Backpack:

Bought this in order to use as a divider in my GoRuck Radio Ruck backpack. Unfortunately it's too deep.

Other than that issue (which I can't penalize Domke for), it's a great divider. The fabric that the velcro attaches to seems to hang a bit loosely. I prefer it to not give as much. The elastic velcro dividers are a nice touch.

Used this in one of my hard suitcase so I didn't have to buy a suitcase I only could use for gear. Love it and made it great for travel and I could put other non-photography stuff in as well and it was perfect.

Works great in 5.11 RUSH 24

Comments about Domke Insert for ProPack 414 Backpack:

I use the 414 insert in a 5.11 RUSH 24 backpack. I had originally tried using the ProPack 418 insert, but it was entirely too large. With the 414 I have enough room and some to spare in the main compartment for light jacket, raincoat or maybe other camera equipment. I have my d5100+kit lens, 55-300, 50 and 12-24, plus a YN-560II, chargers, grip and my GoPro Hero all in the insert. So, as I get more or better glass I can move many of those other items out of the insert and into other parts of the bag so I should have plenty of room to grow with this insert.

I mostly got this setup for long-distance traveling. I could travel with the backpack and camera gear as a "personal" item (that fits under the seat in front of me). Once I reach my destination I can swap the inserts into my regular luggage and put the essential camera gear and lens into a smaller local-commuter type pouch and then I would have a large backpack for hiking or day city walking at my destination.

I really like the design, the super thick padding and the handles. Also, the outer sides has soft-sided Velcro, so if I wanted to I could put Velcro in my bag and it wouldn't move around as much as it does right now.

The thing I dislike about the insert is the soft material that lines the whole thing is not glued or tack-sewn down in any way. This seems like a design flaw that is fundamental with other inserts I've seen. I'll most likely have my wife sew some areas down so it won't puff up as much.

For the price I would have liked to see the cloth glued or sewn down in some spots. Although I will say that the straps that they include (to secure your gear) is a very simple and nice touch.

Comments about Domke Insert for ProPack 414 Backpack:

As Lowepro quality has declined lately (My secondary bag, a ProTrekker, started loosing seams while the primary, an ancient NatureTrekker, is fine), I switched to 5.11 Rush 24 and am using the Domke insert to convert it to a perfect photo bag. I can take my gear and laptop (MB Pro, fits snugly into the hydration compartment) to a business trip, take the insert out for the week in the office and pop it back in for that trek over the weekend. Perfect. Craftmanship and detail are top notch.
