Need a very easy way to view your snapshots on Facebook or Flickr? The Plustek SmartPhoto P60 Photo Scanner is the answer. This palm-sized and lightweight (6.5 oz, 185 g) device scans your 4 x 6" (A6) photo prints at 600dpi resolution and converts them into digital files. Once in your computer, you can upload your scans to digital photo frames, or online photo albums.
Ideal for people who are not familiar with the world of digital imaging, this scanner has just one button...press it and your photo is instantly scanned. It uses the Microsoft Windows photo sharing and viewing application so no additional software is required. The user interface of the scanner is a small pop up window on your computer screen (software included) that displays only a small number of scanning options to choose from, so even a user with only limited computer skills can easily handle the scanner's functions. The SmartPhoto P60 is compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems and the unit is powered via a USB connection to your computer or laptop (USB cable is included).

I needed a small photo scanner that would fit in my laptop case. I teach digital scrapbooking and a lot of people still have paper photos. The portability of this scanner makes it easy for me to show perspective clients the ease of perserving their pictures.
The scanning speed is much, much faster than using a flatbed scanner and I found it very easy to direct which folder the scans go into. One of the things that I especially like is that I can change the prefix of the file name, meaning I can make the clients last name part of the file name. This makes it very easy to separate my scans.
The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is that sometimes the scans are skewed a bit and I have to rescan that photo. Other than that I really love this little scanner!

This is a very frustrating piece of equipment. You can clean it over and over again and every time you scan a photo, you get faint white lines across the image. I wish I would have spent the money for a more expensive model. I would not recommend this product. You'd get better results if you used a flatbad scanner & scanned each image one at a time - although it would take much much longer.

I purchased this scanner as a way to get all my phones into jpg form. So far it works well. You can use either the 600 DPI setting which takes about 50 seconds to scan one photo or the 300 that takes around 20 seconds. I can not tell any difference and I probably have 3000 pictures so I opted to the 300 setting. It will a while before I am done, but it will be worth while. So far the scanner looks to be a good purchase.

Comments about Plustek SmartPhoto P60 Photo Scanner:
Having taken many photographs over the course of 40 something years of shooting, needless to say I have accumulated a few albums and shoeboxes full of prints. I really wanted to digitally archive all of these for my family to have and enjoy and I had started out scanning negatives with a dedicated 35mm Nikon scanner. I found this very time consuming and had the normal issues of dust specks on the scans inspite of a quick cleaning of the negative. I really didn't need a high resolution scan of each either. Exploring what was available I came across the Plustek SmartPhoto P60 to scan 4x6 prints and this seemed like a good option.
WinXP Installation of the scanner consists of plugging the scanner into an available USB port followed by installing the included software from the CD. Upon plugging the scanner in initially the computer did a hiccup of sorts and disabled the PC's hardware video card, reverting to software to operate the monitor. Don't quite know what happened, but did a restart of the PC and all was good when the scannner was plugged in again. The rest of the install went well.
I didn't read much of the manual, but was able to get started scanning photos right away. The scanner has an option for continuous feed so a photo can be fed right after another without hitting the scan button for each photo. Once you get a rhythm going, scanning is fairly quick at about 15-20 sec per photo.
Some scans I did came out slightly skewed. I was careful about feeding them straight and I'm not sure if there is something in the software that attempts to straighten a photo that's fed crooked, which may have tried to straighten when it wasn't needed. There is a protective sheet included that aided in feeding some glossy photos that occasionally didn't feed well, think due to high humidity. This protective sheet seemed keep each scan straight in the resulting output.
The resulting JPG's are adequate to view on a monitor and maybe for a reprint of the original 4x6 size. Color was good after some adjustment in the included software. I don't believe an enlargement would fair too well. Scanning the 4x6's is a good method of cataloging the prints and associated negatives and if I did need an enlargement, I could now readily find the negative and do a proper high resolution scan with my Nikon scanner.
In the course of about 3 days I have scanned just over 500 photos and I am pleased with the results. I have many more to go and have hopes this little scanner is up to the task.
This is my first PlusTek product and I would likely consider purchasing something else from them based on the P60 so far. It's met my expectations.

I picked up the Plustek SmartPhoto scanner to replace my flatbed scanner that wasn't compatible with Windows 7, when I realized I had a lot of 4x6" prints I wanted to scan. Once I was able to get it installed it is super easy to use! Plug it in, push the button, and it just works. It scans your photos to a folder of your choice, you can set it up to scan continuous and feed one picture after another into it, and it does high res (600 dpi). The only trouble I had was getting the software to install initially, I wound up having to reboot my machine before it would scan without streaking or ghosting the image.

Comments about Plustek SmartPhoto P60 Photo Scanner:
The SmartPhoto P60 Scanner is the only way to go if you've got alot of photos to scan! I've already scanned almost 1000 photos and can't believe the time savings versus scanning with my All In One. The only thing I would have liked is some sort of 'guide' for feeding the photos in straighter. The protector sheet solves that problem, but I've not been successful in finding a source for more of the protector sheets, which is why I've given only 4 stars. It's been a week since emailing Plustek about acquiring more protector sheets, but haven't heard back from them. Setup was easy with Win7 64bit, very accurate color, easy to use software! I've tried the Pandigital Photo Scanner, but am much happier with the Plustek which is a much nicer scanner with much better results.

for the money this is a pretty good scanner. It does leave some white lines across pictures randomly as is mentioned in other reviews. Seems all portable scanners have similiar problems. Overal it is fast easy to use and does a reasonable job. I bought this as a gift for my wife to scan our family photos and so far she has scanned all of our wedding photos in the two weeks after Christams while watching tv.

I purchased the SmartPhoto P60 Photo Scanner to convert many years of photos to digital files. Everything I need to copy is 3 1/2x5 1/2 or 4x6. Simple to set up and use...easier than a flatbed scanner. I've scanned about a hundred photos. So far it has worked very well.

I wanted a small photo scanner to copy photos from family scrapbooks and add them to the family history files. This is so lightweight and does really good copies up to 600 dpi. The sleeve into which damaged photos can be placed before scanning is really helpful(too bad there's nothing to identify what it is when you open the box). I found it somewhat hard to install on Windows 7. Once in, it works great.
