I bought the 16mm WA plus this and the fisheye to give me a wider scene in the NEX-7. All three cost less than $500 which is a good deal for so much performance. The carry cases are pretty slick also and fit neatly into a medium bag.

If your looking for image quality, go for the Rokinon 8mm f/2.8. Length and weight should be about the same as this conversion lens on Sony's 16mm pancake. But if you already have 16mm or want the versatility, this conversion is a blast, especially for video! ;D

For me, it is a must with 16/2.8 lens. Does not affect the f stop, does not deteriorate the IQ in any observable way as ordinary converters tend to. No increase in linear distortion, no increase in CA. This is really a lens, not just an attachment. It is actually bigger and heavier than the lens itself. I keep it permanently on my 16mm. Taking it off feels like I am splitting an integral 12mm lens. My only beef is that it does not go wide enough. On 35mm cameras I used to use 17mm lens; this combo is 18mm equivalent. Would prefer 14-16mm equivalent range. The slide-on lens cover does not feel secure enough to stay on. Could be accidentally loosened/ lost. Some kind of locking device, like the provided lock to secure the converter to the lens would feel better.

This wide angle conversion lens is a well made and worthwhile addition to the Sony 16mm pancake lens. It adds minimum distortion, and image quality at F/5.6 to F/11 is decent, especially in the center. Chromatic aberration along the edges can be heavy in some situations. However, this can usually be cleaned up if you have the necessary processing software or in-camera fixes. It's best to shoot in bright light and avoid high contrast subjects such as tree branches against a grey sky, etc.

I use this on an NEX5N with the 16mm pancake kit lens. This gives a focal length of 12mm and actually improves the image quality (IMHO) of my 16mm. The attachment process is simple but sturdy with a locking button to avoid to accidently coming loose, and it comes with caps on both ends and in a handy hard case so it can be tossed into your camera bag and taken with you everywhere. The front element sticks out a bit and is generally protected by the petal-type hood on either side but care still needs to be taken. You can't add a screw-on filter to protect the front element but it's the same with many ultra-wide angles. The distortion from this wide angle is handled well by the camera and there's no discernable coloring in the corners of the image. For the price, it's a great addition to your kit and increases the versatility of your camera. Great for landscapes and indoor shots. A fun lens to use.

After going on vacation carrying only a NEX-5 with an 18-55mm lens, one of the things I really regretted was not getting a more wider-angle lens for area shots. Now that I have one, I'm wishing I had bought one in advance since the difference is quite significant!

+ Comes with its own case
- No screw-on filters for it :(
- Made for and only works correctly on the SEL16F28 (no zoom).

I love this lens,I shoot art indoors and have always struggled with the crop factor of a non full frame camera and the limited lens selection for wide angle without a fisheye effect. I love this conversion Lens. The pictures have come out very sharp in the centre of the frame leaving the pieces I shoot punching out in the frame. For artwork this has proved to be a very useful tool. I also use it to gain perspective on space in rooms that I design to and the coverage this wide angle conversion adds is far from what the 16mm alone can provide. Well worth the reasonable cost for my purpose.

I got this to go along with the sel16f28 lens. I have a NEX7 camera. With the new firmware update, this provides an amazing wide angle capability for landscapes. No decrease in quality. It does increase the size and weight of camera. Makes it similar to using the Zeiss 24F18. Thanks B&H for shipping so quickly. The other option is to wait for the new 10-18 F4 lens. The price of my combination was $ while wide zoom would have been $. In addition, the F28 helps with indoor photography as well.

This is probably one of niftiest accessories I've gotten for my NEX 5N. I've been using the 16mm lens for almost half a year, and since I've purchased it's probably remained on my camera 90% of the time. I'm always trying to get wider angles on my images, and nothing lets me put more into the picture (especially on an APS-C sensor) for under [$] than the Wide Angle Conversion Lens on my 16mm f/2.8The difference between normal field of view of the 16mm and of the 16mm with the adapter attached isn't entirely noticeable, but as I'm always trying to get a wider angle, it helps to tweak my results and not have to run out of space backing up to the wall all the time.

Like others have said, it makes the 16mm a whole lot more wide angle without the fish eye thing kicking in. The lens like the system as a whole is light weight and easy to have on hand. It fits snugly on the 16mm when in use. and has a handy front cap which makes tucking it in a pocket a safe bet.

It is works perfectly with my needs as a photographer! Captures so much more space! I enjoy moving myself to get the shot as opposed to zooming in sometimes. The corners do curve slightly (causing distortion) so it's important to align your shot by checking your position to your subject.

I'm a wide-angle shooter and I like the convenience of small cameras. Nex-7 is a perfect companion to my M9. I occasionally go out with Nex-7 only and in those times I need a wide-angle. This conversion lens deteriorates the corners of the frame. It is not the best solution but it helps and saves the photo opportunity. I will recommend this lens to wide-angle users.

First time used on our family holiday. Looks looks good on the lens. Quick and easy to remove and put on. Auto works fine. Very wide angle with slight distortion to front sides of pictures. Much cheaper than a dedicated wide angle. Great pictures. Avoid using the std flash as hood cast a shadow.

Just screw the adapter onto your 16mm Nex lens, you have a quality, well built ultra wide angle which is perfect for landscape and architectural photos!I normally view the images (39cmx25cm) on my computer screen and also Ipad rectina screen and I cannot fault the iq.For less than $, it is a no brainer.
