The Elinchrom D-Lite-4 IT 400Ws 2-Light To Go Set (90-260VAC) expands the possibilities of a lightweight, portable strobe kit. With two 400Ws D-Lite IT (Intelligent Trigger) portable flashes, two 9' (2.75 m) light stands, a Skyport ECO transmitter for wireless triggering of your strobes, two 25 x 25" (63.5 x 63.5 cm) softboxes, and a wide-angle 90° reflector, this kit covers a lot of ground in a compact package. Plus, you get a sync cord, a stand bag to protect your light stands, a user manual, DVD intro and guide, and a carrying case for storing and transporting the entire kit.

These multi-voltage flash heads recognize and use any AC power source from 90-260VAC, the power is variable in 1/10 steps from 24 to 400Ws, and the cooling fan is controlled by a microprocessor that automatically keeps the temperature in the safety zone. This is an ideal kit for portraits, still life, product, architectural photography, and more.

Note: This EL 20815KIT  replaces: EL 20812KIT

Built-In Skyport Triggering
The built-in Skyport Speed receiver provides wireless triggering of up to four groups and four channels. Included in the kit is a Skyport ECO Trigger, which allows you to choose from up to four frequencies (channels); no group features are supported with Skyport ECO trigger. Optional Standard Skyport Triggers can take advantage of the group features of the DLite IT. The Skyport ECO Trigger has two sync modes, standard sync mode (1/160 sec) or Speed (1/250 sec).
Eye-Cell Technology
When using D-Lite ITs in optical slave mode with cameras, or shoe-mount flashes with a pre-flash, users can program the number of pre-flashes or have the head automatically program itself--a great way of mixing lights.
Proportional Modeling Light Setup
Power adjustments are made in 1/10th stop increments. The modeling lamp can be controlled proportionately, set to minimum or maximum level, or switched off.
Power Steps
Output can be modified in 1/10 increments.
Thermally Controlled Fan Management
The cooling fan is controlled by a microprocessor and switches on automatically when the internal temperature increases.
New Stand Mount
The new, more robust stand mount also adds a universal umbrella mount, like all other Elinchrom heads--the mount can accept umbrellas with shafts of 8 or 9mm.

I'd rate myself as an intermediate level photographer, and while I've been participating in the "strobist" movement as of late (small hot shoe flashes) it was finally time to upgrade to some real studio strobes.I had initially planned on purchasing a set of AlienBees B800 units after doing comparisons between the B800's and the D-Lite4 kit. Well, after a long wait for some of the accessories I was hoping for from AlienBees (backorder issues) I came back to the D-Lite product listings only to discover the D-Lite IT units had finally been released. The specifications between the AlienBees and the D-Lite units are very similar. What finally pushed it over the edge for me is that the D-Lite IT units include built in SkyPort receivers. Since I already owned a SkyPort trigger and a set of Universal receivers, I had no other excuses to hold off on the purchase. In the past few days of using this kit, I can find very few complaints for the money, although I've only used borrowed AlienBees in the past so I don't have a great deal of experiences to make comparisons on.[...]The lights themselves are extremely lightweight, and feel sturdy even though they are made out of plastic. Operation is fairly simple, and my only steps to get up & running with the wireless trigger was to change settings on both of the lights to ensure that wireless triggering was enabled. This was no more complicated than changing dip switch settings, or digital settings in any hot-shoe flash, although I would have preferred a dedicated button/switch rather than having to navigate a menu system. The menu system is very simple, but I would never have stumbled upon it without having first read the manual. From the simple menu system you can enable/disable wireless triggering, specify triggering groups (1 through 4) and specify the radio frequency (also 1 through 4 - only compatible with certain Skyport triggers). In addition to using the built-in optical triggers, I was able to successfully trigger the lights using the included Skyport trigger as well as the EL-Skyport Universal Transmitter (which has a larger variety of frequencies avaialble).I should note that the light heads will also accept 1/8" (3.5mm mini-plug) connections if you prefer to use PocketWizards or CyberSync triggers). The two included soft-boxes were initially a little frustrating to assemble the first time because I was afraid to apply adequate force when inserting the metal frame rods, but after practicing a few times it now only takes me a few minutes to assemble each softbox.Personally my only complaints overall are that the built in radio receivers do not allow remote power adjustments, and that they only work on 4 possibly frequencies. Given that these receivers only make a minor change in the cost of the kit I have to rate these complaints as very minor.Overall I'm very pleased with this purchase and I fully expect to begin building on my collection with light modifiers and additional strobes as soon as my resources allow.

The design and function is very streamlined for ease of use. It's pretty much a no brainer. The charge cycle is respectable, not fancy by any means. Works perfectly for me since I use it with my RZ67. The biggest disappoint for me was that the flash heads do not sync when used with a sync cord, meaning only one head goes off. Also, while using a light meter with the sync cord only one head goes off. I find that highly unacceptable. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. And build quality wise... well there isn't any. The adjustable handle lever snapped within the first four use and it wasn't user error. Cheap plastic. I would never recommend this product to anyone unless money is an issue, like in my case. Also, I had to resew the softbox fabric because it ripped. The only reason I haven't lost my anger is because I have access to a machine shop and I can fix things myself. If you break parts... you'll have a hard time. Trust me and stay away from these entry level Elinchrom gears. Their pro products are good. Not these ones.

I bought this set of lights to shoot a family portrait day at a local school. The 2 400ws heads provided plenty of light with plenty of adjustability for lighting ratios.I really like the included skyport synch mechanism which allows this kit to be used with many newer cameras, like Panasonic Lumix GF1 and Canon 60D which do not have synch cable sockets'Also the collapsible, easy to assemble soft boxes provide a nice soft light.I was impressed with the included Manfrottoblight stands. While I'm not an everyday portrait shooter, these lights will see plenty of action

These are my first studio lights, until now I used Speedlights shot through translucent umbrellas or other on and off camera light modifiers. I am very impressed so far. I really like having the built in wireless system. The 400Ws have plenty of power for small studio settings. The softboxes produce excellent light quality, although I would like to have a second detachable screen internally. I have not noticed hotspots despite the single layer screen. The system packs up really well but it is a pretty tight fit to put two light stands and the softboxes in the supplied bag. I generally just throw one of the light stands in with my backdrop kit so it is not too big of a deal for me. Overall I think this is a great value.

These are my first set of studio lights and they are great. They are just right for a small studio.
You get everything you need to get started.
The only thing that I didn't like was the remote trigger. It came with the Elinchrom Eco, but I needed the Elinchrom Skyport Speed. I want to change the power setting from the trigger and you can not do that with the ECO Trigger. Other then that the set is great.

I recently bought D-Lite IT 400Ws set from B&H at NYC store. The B&H light department assistant was excellent. He explained various light equipments in details before I made my decision. I used it couple of week's ago for a small portrait session. The setup was very easy. It took me about 15 min. to set it up and get going. The Skyport ECO Transmitter rocks - one less cable to worry about. The lights fired up as expected and refresh time was great. Easy to dismantle and pack it in portable carry bags.

Comments about Elinchrom D-Lite-4 IT 400Ws 2-Light To Go Set (90-260VAC):

I deliberated for a long time before committing to this purchase. I'd taken some photo courses at community college where we used a Profoto Acute lighting kit. Teacher was a LF product photographer who felt anything less than a couple of 10k Ws kits was too little. Based on his viewpoint, my in-class experience and budget, I figured I should look to purchase strobes definitely rated greater than 200Ws. This kit was attractive for its digital readout and being radio-trigger ready. I also got my hands on a Photogenic StudioMax III 320 Ws light. I used both and compared. The D-Lite appears to have been made in India and has more spit-and-polish than the StudioMax III. The StudioMax has a 6 stop range vs. 5 stop range on D-Lite. While you can't create more power, you CAN reduce it by other means. I measured the D-Lite output and it's not quite a full 5 stop range, but close enough. In practice, the digital readout is not as important as I had imagined, esp when the back of the light is tilted up and is located high up on a stand. D-Lite seems fairly rugged for prosumer use, but I'd put money on the StudioMax for frequent travel & pro-use. I don't like the D-Lite model lamps. They overhang the flashtube and cut a 1/3 stop off light output. D-Lite has cooling fan StudioMax does not but it's not as important if you don't always run with the model ON and don't do rapid flash sessions. StudioMax has been designed for consistent color throughout the power range. D-Lite seemed pretty consistent. I ran both lights through their range using my D90 with WB set for flash. Straight out of camera, I liked the StudioMax color a bit better than D-Lite. With a greycard, both could be adjusted in Lightroom. D-Lite has an On/Off rocker switch vs. a 3-position slide-switch on the StudioMax. This switch is the thing I liked least about the StudioMax III. If it weren't for that switch, I would seriously consider making a return/exchange of the D-Lite for a StudioMax kit, but the price-point of the D-Lite kit was really tough to beat, so I'll keep it as my first studio strobe kit.

Comments about Elinchrom D-Lite-4 IT 400Ws 2-Light To Go Set (90-260VAC):

A photography friend who has the previous version kit made me aware of these. I read a couple of reviews and they all said great set at a great price, usually they also came out top in comparison with competing sets. I can only agree. I was impressed from the beginning while unpacking as the lights stands in the kit are from Manfrotto and those of course are known to be top notch. But it continues as the lights are 400 watts each with easy to use digital controls on the back and roughly 2 foot by 2 foot soft boxes. The lights are strong enough to support a standard sized shooting environment. The quality and workmanship all appears spotless. But to top it off the lights come with built in radio receivers and there is also a wireless on camera radio transmitter included. The only thing I might improve as budget permits is to upgrade the soft boxes at some point maybe larger with 2 layers of translucent material. Still the boxes included do a great job and are a very fair deal for the money. Everything else is just simply perfect and I would not know any reasons to upgrade.

Set these up yesterday they are fast and warm. The hoods are very tight and difficult to setup but once together they are tight.

I purchased this set for events and I've been nothing but pleased. I did a red carpet shoot this last weekend and they worked consistently. I highly recommend this kit.

One warning: The light stands that come with the kit are too big to fit into the bag. I believe the stands that ship now are a newer model. This didn't bother me much since I place everything in a larger rolling bag.

Haven't had these lights very long but so far they've been great. A couple of years ago I sold my Hensel Integra's thinking I wouldn't be doing much studio work. Recently I began doing some casual studio work and needed lights that would give me some basic functionality. These light are high quality and have adaquate power to do some very nice work while not breaking the bank. I love the radio control over the lights rather than tripping over a thousand cords.I'm not crazy about the softboxes. I had a complete set of Photoflex boxes for my old set up and these aren't nearly as good. The stands are nice and on a scale of 1 - 10 (10 high) I'd give the set a strong 8.I believe most of us that can't rationalize dropping [$] or more into a set of lights will be very happy with these lights.

I use this lighting setup anywhere I need portable studio lighting. The whole thing fits into two small carrying bags so its easy to get around from place to place. The only complaint is the soft boxes are difficult to assemble and disassemble.

The light worked faultlessly. The only issue I had was with the SPEED function. The manual didn't mention that you have to adjust both the remote (stated) and the light (not stated) to make it work.

I like the lights quite well. I like that they're light weight and have te power I need.

I'm a little disconcerted by the weight at the same time as I'm happy with it. I've been shooting speedotrons for 25 years and these things weight less than an extention cord. I can't help but feel they're fragile, but so far I;ve had no problem.

Comments about Elinchrom D-Lite-4 IT 400Ws 2-Light To Go Set (90-260VAC):

I recently bought this set and it's easy to break down and put back up. It works like a champ - the light is soft and even. The skyports fire as extected. It's prbably the best bang for buck 2 light kit available.
