The POD HD500 from Line 6 is a multi-effect pedal that boast 16 state-of-the-art Line 6 HD amplifier models, more than 100 modern and vintage-styled M-class effects, and a comprehensive set of digital and analog I/O. The HD modeling captures the genuine playability that guitarists demand.

Based on new technology, the models use 10-times more amplifier information than before, including single-ended Class A tube stages, Class AB push/pull interactions, power supply behavior, and more. The result is unprecedented, warmth, feel, sustain and articulation.

Up to eight of the over 100 M-class effects can be used simultaneously. The unit offers flexibility to mix and match amplifiers and pedals in multiple preset rigs, recallable at the stomp of a switch. Additionally, the POD HD500 functions as a fully featured looping, pitch shifting and harmonizing machine. The unit also allows for "Dual Tone" operation, where the signal can be routed through two different chains of models.

The included editor/librarian software is easy to use, making it a snap to quickly dial in a desired tone. Comprehensive connectivity makes the pedalboard equally suitable for live and studio use. The POD HD500 can connect to just about anything - analog or digital, balanced or unbalanced, for amplification or recording.

Stereo send and return jacks are available for adding additional external effects. A microphone input with trim is included, as is MIDI I/O, a 1/4" auxiliary input, Variax digital in, and an RCA coaxial S/PDIF digital output.

Finally, the unit is built like a tank with bent sheet metal housing and heavy-duty metal footswitches and expression pedal. No injection-molded plastic boxes here - the POD HD500 is ready to lap up years of road and stage abuse.

    Comments about Line 6 POD HD500 - Multi-Effects Pedalboard:

This is an amazing piece of technology and after a month I'm still trying to program it for my particular purposes. While it's easy to get very useful tones for studio work relatively quickly (much like it's predecessors) I've been having some difficulty making it work for live situations. Even though this flagship model was specifically designed and engineered to address that very issue as was experienced in earlier POD incarnations the switch from analog signal paths to this all digital modeling method will take some time to work out to my satisfaction in a live performance setting. They did, however, improve the tactile response of guitar-to-final output which makes playing closer to the real thing than in previous PODs I've been able to DEMO. One thing that would have helped would be packing it with more useful factory presets as starting points. There's a lot of stuff there just to show off the processing capabilities but not necessarily useable in real world applications. To be fair to Line 6 though the website product info does mention the differences between the HD300, HD400 and HD500 and this model is definitely advertised as the most open ended of the 3 as far as what you can do with it... or should I say: what you HAVE to do with it - a real "tweaker's delight"! The only real knock I have on the product is the software (big surprise there) that is intended to keep the hardware and firmware updated to the most current available and the editor/librarian to be able to manage the presets. Neither will run on the Macintosh Power PC platform (Intel only) which really chaps me (unfortunately Line 6 is not the only audio software developer taking this tack) but the Windows version is buggy on Pentium class processors running XP so it would appear that Intel compatibles have rule of the roost in this area. Aside from that it's a real sound investment that will keep you busy for many, many hours of digital modeling bliss.

    Comments about Line 6 POD HD500 - Multi-Effects Pedalboard:

I am a session guitarist, do Top 40, jazz, R&B, even Zydeco gigs - so I put this box to the test on a daily basis.I have replaced 2 amps, foot controllers and a rack of FX with this brilliant box... not to mention the fact that I no longer have to rely upon some vendor's backline or haul/ship expensive gear that tends to not like being handled like tourist luggage - or break my back moving gear.I did have to spend a bit of time tweaking settings and creating my own sounds to fit genre's and set lists, but with the included editing s/w not only could I do this easily (an intuitive interface that even a drummer could understand), it was inspirational. I could quickly discover variations of cabinets, heads, audition the order of FX, assign switches/pedals... and find variations that I would have never discovered in the real world - at least not without spending obscene amounts of money on more amps than would fit in my house (not to mention[*] off the neighbors). Bottom line, this box is a Home-Run for Line 6.The most amazing feature is that the models actually respond like a real amp with amazing tone!! I have certain mainstream amps that start with the letter "F" that are not as responsive as these models. I was blown away.If you are a one-trick player, perhaps not the box you need, however for the guitarist that wants a huge palette of versatility to address gigs, or to simply spark your creativity (I turned on my rig while exploring... all kinds of new ideas were laid down), this unit is a must have.

    Comments about Line 6 POD HD500 - Multi-Effects Pedalboard:

I use it because of live and the recording.

I am considerably satisfied with it.

    Modeling has evolved very much.

It firmly reacted to the volume of the picking and the guitar, and the sound became three-dimensional, too and I was able to feel considerable real.

The degree of freedom of the multi effector is very high, and the sound is also wonderful.

It is detailed, and the sound is made, and how of the effect for the row is also freely revokable.

They to be able to be the assign doing various parameters to each foot switch, and it finishes being in real time on-off.

Because MIDI is also good to this at assign, it is excellent as the MIDI controller.

It became operation with a smooth expression pedal.

If the modeling of the cabinet is not examined closely especially firmly, it is annoyed by the distance of a peculiar sound to POD.

The function and the tone quality only of this are packed, and, generally, I think it is wonderful because it is this size.
