The Edirol/Roland MVS-12 Multi-viewer and Matrix Switcher comes with 12 composite video inputs that can be used to connect a maximum of 12 video sources. The HDMI/RGB outputs, can be viewed in 4 different multi-viewer layouts (12 split-screens, 10 split-screens, 9 split-screens, 4 split-screens) on an HD monitor; further, these layouts can be adjusted with regard to the placement of the feeds using a simple drag and drop. The multi-viewer has a 4-display setup memory that can be used to save 4 display setups; these display setups can be recalled from the 4 front panel memory buttons.
With the MVS-12, you can select the aspect ratio, background color, and source name for each of the 12 video sources from an easily accessible menu. A PS/2 type mouse port allows you to attach a mouse directly to the multi-viewer and easily adjust the various parameter and input controls in the menus. Moreover, the unit can be controlled from a PC over an Ethernet or RS-232C and displays channel selection on the monitor using V-link.

We use this to multiview inputs for our children's worship service. We also use the matrix to send signal to our video monitors. Great for the job!

We bought this for monitoring cameras, preview and program output in the control room, and it works like a charm.
I'm surprised how easy it was to set up the MVS-12. It's plug and play, and should you need to customize the settings, no problem. You will be done in five minutes, I guarantee it!
The MVS-12 is a fairly inexpensive alternative, compared to other multiviewers, and it has got an integrated matrix switcher too!
In my opinion, there are no real disadvantages with the MVS-12. You can't expect SDI-capabilities for this price, and although I would like to see some other multiview outputs than HDMI or VGA only, it works just fine. The configuration interface looks kind of... old. But hey, it doesn't need to look like OS X. It does what it's supposed to do.
This is a great unit for a good price. Works like a charm, loving the possibility to operate the unit from the built-in web interface.

Comments about Edirol / Roland MVS-12 Multi-viewer & Matrix Switcher:
HomeTown Sports Indiana produces 300 events yearly from a mobile production Sprinter. We're still analog, as are most smaller webcasters. Our stand alone monitors were fading. I was pleased to see a solution tailored exactly for our 6 camera shoots. A big bonus was the 12x4 router that allows us to quickly switch cameras to our newtek 3play instant replay system. Administration is simple.
