The 85HD is first of all a powerful 16:9 aspect ratio, multimedia projector which implements 3LCD Technology for dynamic color and contrast, backed by 2,500 lumens of light output; but that's just the beginning. More than a projector, the MovieMate 85HD is a portable entertainment center incorporating a DVD player and built-in stereo audio system which handles movies, audio and video devices, karaoke and gaming consoles.
While ideal for home installations due to its attractive compact profile, the MovieMate really comes into its own on the road or with friends. At 9.3 lbs you can just grab the convenient built-in handle and your choice of entertainment media, find an outlet and setup is complete. The short throw lens is capable of projecting an image 8x larger than a 40" TV, and even if the venue is space-challenged you can display a 60" wide screen image from only 6 feet away. That means you can screen your favorite content whether it's a post-game party or a presentation.
The integrated multi-format DVD / CD player supports MP3, WMA and MPEG playback, while built-in Dolby Digital and DTS audio decoders are capable of reproducing surround sound fidelity and sonic realism from your favorite movie soundtracks. Alternately, you can load up a jump drive with your favorite photos and give JPEG slideshows via the USB host port.
The MovieMate 85HD has the fine points covered too. Wide connectivity including HDMI, keystone correction and a 1.35x digital zoom lens are all on board. This even looks good on an evenly painted wall, ours was a tan color, because it is projecting white light, white is white!! Just love this!! A+++ You wont regret it! I have not had this projector long, so I cannot comment on bulb life. Yet, taking it out of the box, setting it up in my bedroom and popping a DVD in it - WOW! It is the closest I have been to having a movie theatre in my home, in my bedroom. The picture is vivid and large and makes watching anything better. I plan to carry this around too and use its portability as well. It size will make that easy as well as its handle. It is capable of doing more than I have done with it so far but I am glad to contribute my extremely positive first impression.

Wow. What a product. The projector was simple to set up. We watched a movie on the side of our barn on a cold November night and the picture and sound were very clear. Only downside; colder weather setting in soon so we may have to wait until spring to watch movies outside.

I PURCHASED A LARGE CANVAS FROM A CRAFT STORE AND NOW WE WATCH MOVIES IN OUR OUTDOOR GAZEBO! I USE THIS FOR HALLOWEEN TOO WITH SCARY HUGE IMAGES PEOPLE SEE OUT THE WINDOW! KUDOS TO EPSON AS ALWAYS!

I unpacked the MovieMate and had it up and running within the half hour. I like that I can just pop in a DVD, or hook it up to my laptop. There are other options as well, but I wanted a simple plug and play type of set-up, and that is what it offers.
Sound is great even without external speakers, but I could augment with an external set if I wish. Clarity is good and I just love the feature that allows me to take a break - it whites out the screen and waits for me to return.

I like the fact that if I want to quickly do a show I can just put the movie right into the projector or if I want a big movie theater setup I can add my dvd or blueray plater along with a surround sound system. Very easy to use projector that gives a great picture. I use this to project movies on a 120" screen in my living room. The high lumens means you don't have to have it perfectly dark to get a great picture. To watch a movie, just turn it on and pop a DVD in the built in upconverting DVD player. This projector has sound built in. The only drawback for some is that the speakers are in the back. In my setup that means the sound projects away from me making it a little hard to make out dialogue. My solution was to buy a sound bar that had digital coaxial out. It improved the sound and now I can get a great theater like experience! The feature I like best is the coffe break button on the remote. Push it anytime and it pauses the movie and lights up the screen bright white. It's great for short timeouts where you need light, but don't want to turn on the overhead lights.

Pros: Color excellent Portability Picture size (huge) Ease of use Cons: Movie is displayed as a Trapezoid Has a flaw out of the box ( The picture is not squared) The bottom of the projected image is perfectly level; however the top of the picture is not. The left margin of the movie is shorter than the right and therefore the top margin rises and is mildly distracting. We have figured out a way to compensate by tilting machine. Upon inspection of the device, the lens appears to "sit" low. We have watched only one movie, I have yet to call for service on it. Its a great machine otherwise and hopefully Epson will address my concern properly

We figured out how to use the carrying case--the projector has a built-in handle, and the soft case wraps around it. The case still offers little protection if you plan to be traveling with the projector. On the brighter side is the brighter image. We were absolutely delighted to see such a great image in a room with a huge sliding door/window, in full daylight. I've never seen a projector work this well. And if the lamp lasts a reasonable time before starting to fade, we're gonna be very happy consumers. We still think the product should have come with the cable necessary to connect it to a laptop, but we were very happy with the support we received from the Epson tech staff, when we had trouble figuring out how to reformat the wide screen image to match the width of the image on the computer.

My Granddaughter loves to watch cartoons. She is not even two years old yet. I set up my projector to play some DVDs on her bedroom wall. She was so excited. I brought my new Epson projector over because I was babysitting for them while mom & dad went out. She fell asleep in her crib watching Disney Tinker bell DVDs. The color on the wall was vivid. The sound was just right. The instructions were easy to follow. My granddaughter did look for cartoons on the wall the next day. But mom said all gone for now. Grandma will come again. And when I received my new Epson Projector I was so impressed on the packaging. Very very well cushioned and packaged for me. I am making a picture collage for my sons wedding. My new projector is just what I need to display it at the reception. Thanks Epson!

hook-up better speakers in larger setting; can even use 1/8 headphone jack w volume control to do that. Projector works very well even w light coming in daylight windows; though of course you do even better when darker. Can adjust projector brightness. Easy, very portable and fun!

Pros: Decent picture quality; Lightweight; Cons: I found the speakers to be inadequate...hooked up to a surround sound system takes care of this problem; My User's Guide cd didn't work..I resolved this by going to their website to download the User's Guide; I found the soft case that came with the projector didn't provide the protection I needed when transporting my projector. I bought a hard case to solve this problem.

In my setup that means the sound projects away from me making it a little hard to make out dialogue. My solution was to buy a sound bar that had digital coaxial out. It improved the sound and now I can get a great theater like experience! The feature I like best is the coffe break button on the remote. Push it anytime and it pauses the movie and lights up the screen bright white. It's great for short timeouts where you need light, but don't want to turn on the overhead lights.

I use this projector outside b/c it has a DVD player already built in. The picture and sound is great. So far there hasn't been any problem with it. I would definitely recommend it for outside use or as a second projector.

Pros: Color excellent Portability Picture size (huge) Ease of use Cons: Movie is displayed as a Trapezoid Has a flaw out of the box ( The picture is not squared) The bottom of the projected image is perfectly level; however the top of the picture is not. The left margin of the movie is shorter than the right and therefore the top margin rises and is mildly distracting. We have figured out a way to compensate by tilting machine. Upon inspection of the device, the lens appears to "sit" low. We have watched only one movie, I have yet to call for service on it. Its a great machine otherwise and hopefully Epson will address my concern properly

We figured out how to use the carrying case--the projector has a built-in handle, and the soft case wraps around it. The case still offers little protection if you plan to be traveling with the projector. On the brighter side is the brighter image. We were absolutely delighted to see such a great image in a room with a huge sliding door/window, in full daylight. I've never seen a projector work this well. And if the lamp lasts a reasonable time before starting to fade, we're gonna be very happy consumers. We still think the product should have come with the cable necessary to connect it to a laptop, but we were very happy with the support we received from the Epson tech staff, when we had trouble figuring out how to reformat the wide screen image to match the width of the image on the computer.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

My Granddaughter loves to watch cartoons. She is not even two years old yet. I set up my projector to play some DVDs on her bedroom wall. She was so excited. I brought my new Epson projector over because I was babysitting for them while mom & dad went out. She fell asleep in her crib watching Disney Tinker bell DVDs. The color on the wall was vivid. The sound was just right. The instructions were easy to follow. My granddaughter did look for cartoons on the wall the next day. But mom said all gone for now. Grandma will come again. And when I received my new Epson Projector I was so impressed on the packaging. Very very well cushioned and packaged for me. I am making a picture collage for my sons wedding. My new projector is just what I need to display it at the reception. Thanks Epson!

Beautiful picture, fun, easy to use, practical, good sound w easy ability to
hook-up better speakers in larger setting; can even use 1/8 headphone jack w volume control to do that. Projector works very well even w light coming in daylight windows; though of course you do even better when darker. Can adjust projector brightness. Easy, very portable and fun!

Pros: Decent picture quality; Lightweight; Cons: I found the speakers to be inadequate...hooked up to a surround sound system takes care of this problem; My User's Guide cd didn't work..I resolved this by going to their website to download the User's Guide; I found the soft case that came with the projector didn't provide the protection I needed when transporting my projector. I bought a hard case to solve this problem.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
