When I docked this drive onto my Mac system it failed to format as Mac OS - leaving me with a windows system, which is pretty much useless. Although the Mac recognized the drive, the drive acted like a windows system with all of those limitations. Buffalo tech people were not helpful in a timely manner. I finally partitioned the entire drive and formatted the partition as Mac OS. Seems to work that way. I use it for some intense HD video work. Just a hassle setting it up.

Comments about Buffalo 2TB DriveStation Combo 4 External Hard Drive:
The Buffalo software on this hard drive created problems on my system. I got systems errors, the blue screen of death and had to restore to an earlier point in time to fix this. I did an NTFS format through windows and wiped the drive clean. All works fine now.

Comments about Buffalo 2TB DriveStation Combo 4 External Hard Drive:
I was concerned with some of the negative reviews - but now I believe those people were probably having USER errors. For example, the person with the Mac compatibility issue must not be familiar with formatting Mac drives. The disk utility app defaults to a Windows format version - but all you need to do is select the Mac format version from the drop down menu - bit of a no brainer.
This drive is solid and fast - it is what most people would consider quiet.

Comments about Buffalo 2TB DriveStation Combo 4 External Hard Drive:
I purchased this drive to replace an old LaCie Quadra that went out on me. This Buffalo operates quiet, and the interface options are great. I use it as a 'master' drive to backup bulky high-quality video files. I'd say for the price, drive size, and interface (FW800) options - it's pretty tough to beat.

Purchased the drive as a DVR external drive. Synchronized immediately with no problems. Has functioned flawlessly so far. All cables you need to connect were included, even Esata which was needed for my DVR connection.

Comments about Buffalo 2TB DriveStation Combo 4 External Hard Drive:
The hard drive is just what it was described to be, I plugged it in and the drivers downloaded and it was all good to go. The hard drive is quiet, although my shop isn't the quietest place in the world so it might be making more noise than I think it is.
The cons are that the software extras don't work really well. They loaded and ran the first time but after my computer restarted they never seemed to work again. I tried installing them again but that didn't make any difference. I didn't realize it came with the software when I bought it so I guess I'm not really out that much.
The hard drive is solid and the transfers are quick and I like the 4 hookup options.

This is the fourth or fifth Buffalo drive I've purchased for work. I've found them to be reliable and sturdy. I'm using it as one of a set of backup drives. I have recommended Buffalo drives to family and friends and will continue to do so.
I was disappointed to find that this model of hard drive has a different AC adapter than previous Buffalo drives. Now I have to have two adapters on hand, and can't simply swap the drives out. A minor, but annoying difference.

The drive worked great with my Mac (OS X Lion 10.7.3). I connected it up via the Firewire 800 port. No issues. Why did I choose this drive? I have a MacBook Pro with an external 32" Dell Monitor. My Thunderbolt connection is dedicated to my Dell Monitor. So I thought I would take advantage of the rarely used Firewire port. This would leave my two often used (and slower) USB2 ports free.

This drive is large and offers 4 different input selections (e-sata, firewire 400 and 800, and usb 2.0. It is proving to be reliable for an image backup of the boot drive, including regular updating of the image. The firewire 400 connection was occasionally less reliable (would drop out - I would have to reboot to get it back). I switched to usb and that has been OK. I also reformatted it to NTSF which accomodates larger files.
