This clapboard gives you everything you need to mark your scenes. As an editor, as well as a shooter, I use the white and black of the sticks to set color correction if necessary. The grey is not an 18% grey though. The color sticks make it easier to match cameras as well. It seems well built, but I can see the acrylic coming off the sticks in a few years. Keep the box it arrives in so you don't scratch it while on the move.

I used it on a four day shoot and not only did a screw on the hinge come loose, but one of the sticks chipped. Minor inconveniences, but probably not worth it if more expensive slates are going to be more durable. Would have given it 2.5 out of 5 but I can't.

This is my first set of sticks. We bought it for a student film I'm apart of. Works great, has all the necessary info we needed for editing. I especially love the recessed magnet that adds a little extra clap as it's closed.

I have been using the clapper since it arrived (in excellent packaging) and I am more than pleased with its quality. It is easy to use, sturdy, well put together, and the dry erase board wipes off very easily without any left over marks, even after not being erased for days. Great product for its low price!

There are 3 things that can be improved on this item. First is the fact that the dry erase markers do not totally erase because this is acrylic and not a true dry erase surface. Your markers will leave stains behind. Second, the acrylic is somewhat transparent, it should be solid white and thus can be used for white balance. Thirdly, the white stripes on the back of the clapper should come all the way to the edge of the clapper arms and meet when closed as they do on the color clapper side. This makes it easier to know when the clapper is fully closed, as it is, there is a gap between where the tape meets when the clappers are closed and thus it looks like it is not fully closed when it is.

This product has not let me down during filming home movies as well as professional quality movies. For [$] dollars it is just a steal. Very durable and extremely easy to use! Feel like a pro when saying your scene. No need for you to get an expensive electronic clapboard when you have this one that's just as good, just much simpler. I recommended this to the most professional of filmmaker's, so that explains a lot for those whom just want to have fun! Buy it and start filming!

I use it for film and commercial work and it came as expected. The only drawback is that the screws holding the clapper in place get loose after days of use. I already almost lost one that came off. It wasn't anything my leatherman couldn't handle though.

Wow, I am blown away! This clapper is so cool, it makes me cry. I used it to shoot my children playing with balls of yarn, and it works wonders for keeping my videos organized.I recommend it to anyone who takes themselves and their films seriously.

The clapboard is exactly as pictured. Great product for the price. Nicely made and is better than other clapboards I have used. This one even has color bars and good spacing to slate the scene with information.

A lot of clapboards can be a little pricey. However this one I feel is perfect for any independent filmmaker! It is great quality and works great! Although you will have to buy dry erase markers separately.

Comments about Pearstone Acrylic Dry Erase Clapboard with Color Sticks (9.25x11"):
Most consumers are aware of the saying "you get what you pay for". Obviously, there are better clapperboards out there -- and as the quality increases, so does the cost. The Pearstone SADC-911, in my opinion, does not rank #1, #2, #3 or even #4 as far as clapperboards go; but it gets the job done. I've had no trouble with the hinges as mentioned in other reviews, and even if I did I'm sure it's an easy fix. After over 150 takes on a project I'm working on, absolutely nothing has gone wrong. Quite frankly, if you're truly an independent filmmaker, you're used to making do with what you can get. Not to be harsh or anything, but it's just a clapperboard -- it's sturdy enough and dry erase markers work well on it. It'll get the job done. Hey, when you have more disposable income you can upgrade; if you'd even care to by then.

I'm and independent film maker and this clap board was perfect because it is not dreadfully expensive but it still has all the features you need and want. The dry erase part of it is also super handy and it erases really well.

Really nice clapboard for the money. Magnet holds sticks in alignment when closed. Not the most robust construction I've ever seen, but certainly should hold up under normal usage.

I use the product for videography work and low-budget movies. It has a magnet on the clapper which prevents it from being unmagnetized. It has colors on it too. Neato.

This board would be perfect except for one thing - it does not have a clean snapping noise that gives a nice wavform spike for syncing.
The colored chevrons are not painted on - they are actually thin strips of metal that are glued on. The bottom strip is glued off center - too high. This makes the top arm hit the strip first before the bottom arm, resulting in a dull thud rather than a clean snap.
I've ordered two so far and had the same problem with both, and unfortunately B&H cannot open packages to check for problems before shipping.
You are probably better off spending a little more money somewhere local where you can actually try out the clapboard first and make sure yours doesn't have the same problems.

There's nothing particularly fancy about this slate but it works great for the price. For those doing doing sync-sound workflows with DSLR, this adds professionalism to your shoot by avoiding the need to clap with your hands and take the time to explain to the client why such a silly-looking thing is required.

I read other reviews prior to making my decision to purchase this clapboard. The only significant complaint I could see was the issue with the screws/nuts coming loose. As soon as I got my clapboard, I went to the local hardware store and purchased a tube of Lock-Tite. I backed the nuts off and applied the Lock-Tite to the threads per the directions on the tube. I tightened everything back up and it works like a charm. I hope this helps future buyers. It's well worth spending a couple of extra bucks on an easy fix.
