The HD Pro Wedge from Celestron is designed for fork-mounted Celestron Schmidt Cassegrain Telescopes up to 11". The wedge provides a stable and heavy-duty platform that minimizes vibrations during astro-imaging. As the telescope's motor drive tracks the stars across the sky from east to west, the HD Pro Wedge tilts the telescope's R.A. into polar alignment allowing the motor drive to track an arc around the polar axis as the stars move across the celestial sphere. The wedge comes pre-assembled but some adjustment will be necessary.

Functional for use at the equator, the HD Pro Wedge can be configured for either a latitude range of 0-50° or 40-90°, depending on your location. The center of gravity can be adjusted for maximum stability. There are over-sized adjustment knobs for both altitude and azimuth for easy polar alignment. A holder for the hand control can be placed on the wedge or the fork arm. The tilt plate allows the telescope to be easily mounted onto the wedge and a large 14 mm diameter latitude adjustment screw adds to the stability of the HD Pro Wedge.

Low altitude range of 0-90° allows use at the equator
Latitude adjustment screw of 14 mm diameter contributes strength and stability
Built-in hand control holder can be placed on the wedge or the fork arm. The hand control is designed not to fall off when the fork arm is angled towards the ground
Tilt plate has recesses to fit the base of the telescope so that the base of scope drops into place just by rotating it
Heavy-duty side plates are more rigid providing less vibration while imaging

Comments about Celestron HD Pro Wedge:

This item is used to polar align your Celestron 8se telesscope. Mostly use for longer exposures as in photography or just so everyone can take a good look at an astrology object as the earth is rotating at about 1100 miles an hr.( 25K / 24). When your telescope is aligned with this wedge mounted it is called an EQ (equitorial) alignment. This wedge places the telescope at the correct altitude with respect to the north star ( polaris). That with a polar alignment you are now aligned so the telescope will now follow the track accurately and thus a longer exposure.

Comments about Celestron HD Pro Wedge:

I've had 10 years with my GPS 11 on its altazimuth mount an was limited to short exposures of deep space targets. I finally got a HD Pro Wedge by Celestron. It is well built and very user friendly with all its adjustment controls. It weighs 6 pounds more that the tripod. It's going to work out very well for long exposure astrophotography. B and H had it for $[$]less than Celestron's price. Way to go, B and H.

Comments about Celestron HD Pro Wedge:

It is a must if you plan on doing (long exposer)astrophotography.
It is well built. Very solid.
It is heavy. I am postive Celestron could have built this wedge with a lighter and just as sturdy material. But would the general public be able to afford it? I doubt it.

Comments about Celestron HD Pro Wedge:

Use it on a CPC800 to enable long exposure astrophoto. This is a strong built equipment, very functional and easy to use. It worth the money. The only factor that could be improved is the instructions manual, considering it comes out of the box not fully assembled. Also, South hemisphere customers could get more help.
