The Vanguard Alta+ 264AO Tripod W/PH-31 Panhead provides the stability, durability and reliability you want in your gear. The aluminum legs have settings for 25°, 50°, and 80° with easy-release buttons for quick set-up. This lightweight (4.6 lbs/2.1 kg) tripod collapses to 25.375" (64.5 cm) and can be extended up to 5.83' (1.78 m)--and it supports up to 11 lbs (5 kg). All-weather foam grip legs, magnesium die-cast canopy and head, non-slip, spiked rubber feet and a removable hook for hanging camera accessories make this tripod a great addition to your kit bag. A backup safety lock for the camera plate, a larger plate and fluid head with two bubble levels make it indispensable.

This tripod is great for Optics such as Spotting Scopes and Binoculars. The Panhead move smoothly to allow searching. It is light weight and easy to expande the legs. If you want a tripod for Photography get a different panhead with the 264 series.

The tripod itself is sturdy and decently designed. The problem relates to the panhead. The worst possible idea they could have was put the tension lock for both the tilt and pan on the same knob. This prevents you from locking only one axis at a time for any normal pan shots. This makes the tripod utterly worthless for filming. If you just want a tripod for still photography you would be better off with getting a ballhead.
