The Manfrotto 504PLONG Quick-Release Mounting Plate is the long version of the standard camera plate for the Manfrotto 504HD fluid head. The extra length helps balance cameras with unusual weight distribution.

This plate mates ONLY with the 504HD Fluid Video Head (about $370) and not with other Manfroto long-lens-capable heads. I misunderstood the description of it as a "standard" QR plate for use with various video-capable Manfroto heads. What does "standard" mean if this thing is only used with a single video head? My mistake; but the description was misleading. Apparently, it is a wonderful performer for video professionals who invest $450 in their quick release systems and figure it a bargain.

Comments about Manfrotto 504PLONG Long Quick-Release Mounting Plate:
The 504PLONG fits both the 504HD 75mm ball head and the 502 flat based head, and little else.
Thank you Manfrotto for selling heads and mounts that have ALMOST the same plate but are not compatible. The 357 plate on their quick-disconnect mount is almost identical but the two are totally different widths. And Manfrotto doesn't make a quick-disconnect mount that takes the 504PLONG plate.
Apparently the plate alone accounts for 1/5 the cost of a 504HD fluid head.
But price aside, Manfrotto should never have released a head that uses this plate, which should not exist. The 357 plate is so close and fits previously released products. It should have been the plate on the 504HD.
Please, Manfrotto: standardize your silly plates.

Some girls say they don't care about the length of your quick-release plate. Maybe so, but they've never seen the 504PLONG (and plong it does!).

This 504plong is the replacement for the 504hd mounting plate. It fit the hd head perfectly and comes with many device attachment screw options. Works just as I had hoped, great product.

Comments about Manfrotto 504PLONG Long Quick-Release Mounting Plate:
While there is nothing special about this, I could not use my 60D on my tripod and still securely tighten the slider on the tripod plate, because the camera rides out over that spot. With the long plate, the camera rides far forward of that location and all is well.

You'll want this when you're doing 2 cameras on the same fluid head. It's lightweight, takes up like no room in your tool kit, and you'll thank god you have it when you're on the move.

I lost my original release plate during a shoot, so this purchase was inevitable. Personally, I think it's a little pricey, but it definitely works.

Comments about Manfrotto 504PLONG Long Quick-Release Mounting Plate:
If you do video production and use a Manfrotto tripod like the 504HD , you'll want a few of these. I've got one on my Glidecam, monopod, slider and shoulder rig. When you're doing run-and-gun work, these things are a necessity. Constantly screwing your camera on and off of all your different stabilizers is a pain (and you risk dropping your camera if you're always spinning it around to unscrew it!.
This is a great buy

Comments about Manfrotto 504PLONG Long Quick-Release Mounting Plate:
I simply needed a second release plate for my Manfrotto 504HD Fluid Video Head so I could mount either my PROAIM 9" Cage Rig or my 39" Glidtrack to my tripod without having to keep taking off the mounting plate and re-attaching it to another piece of gear.
Having a second plate saves me time and energy out in the field. Now both mounting plates are permamnetly mounted on each respective piece of gear I use.
The quality of the plate is excelllent and you have extra 1/4"-20 and 3/8" screws.
Comments about Manfrotto 504PLONG Long Quick-Release Mounting Plate:
Though the 504 plate is about twice as long of the 701 head, it is compatible with it and is what I desire to balance my camera rig the way I want it.
I also find the rubber grips come loose easily when two items are attached to the plate at once.

I use this with my steady cam, cage mounted ultra telephoto lenses and shoulder rigs and my heavier weight fluid tripod heads. It works great.

Release Mounting Plate by Manfrotto when mounting to the redrock system. I have to put the redrock shoulder mount up side down. With two screws. It still has a little movement. This might not be a issue once I play with it more.
Great Manfrotto 504hd head though

I use manfrotto, and this fits my 504HD head and the smaller 501 head. What more could you want?

This is the exact same plate that the 504HD head comes with.
I needed a second plate and looked all over and thought I had to buy a "long" version of the plate as my only choice, but I guess the head comes with the long version to begin with.
This plate works great and I haven't had any troubles with it. I'm using it to mount a Kessler Crane Pocket Dolly and it works perfectly.
