As in the past I always have trusted the brand Nikon and for just
reasons. Their products always seem to lead the industry standards
and they back every product with their warranties.
Over the last 40 years Nikon has always been my camera I have with me at all times. This battery as with all my cameras are always OEM Nikon due to their consistent performance.
Not after-market with their sometimes questionable reliability.
This as with all batteries must be ready to function no matter what
or you miss that priceless moment for ever.

I use this battery in my nice new D5100 to operate it. I want it to operate. When the included battery is out of electrons, my nice new D5100 will stop operating. So I always carry a spare battery because there are no shades of gray in the digital world.
It is great because with it my camera operates.
It is not so great because it is the ONLY battery that I can buy to operate my D5100.
Apparently Nikon has incorporated a very valuable feature in this battery; it talks to your camera and politely requests permission to be your battery. If your camera does not give that, your battery becomes a small brick. For some reason, no other manufacturers' batteries even try to ask, lest they become bricks as well.
Therefore, there is really no point in reviewing this, except for its humorous aspects. Without a charged EN-EL14, your camera becomes a large, expensive brick. Presumably you, as I, do not care to carry such bricks. So you will eventually buy a spare EN-EL14, as I did. Be assured that it works just like your original D5100 battery.
Nu, so what's to review?
OK. I got my spare battery at B&H and received the standard B&H fast service. I did not get their usual low price. NOBODY NOWHERE gets a break on price for an EN-EL14! Nevertheless, I continue to highly recommend B&H.
OK. The battery?? It's a nice battery.
Nikon?? Better I shouldn't answer...

OEM spare/replacement. Not much to be said. But it's essential to have at least one spare on you at all times. I find it has a fairly long period before it needs to be recharged. Charges within an hour or two. I am satisfied with its performance.

Bought an aftermarket battery to use as an extra and after charging it grabbed it to continue taking photos at a Birthday party. Camera said it did not recognize battery and needles to say I wasn't very happy. First thing I did when I got back home was to order a real Nikon battery.........

Does the job when my battery dies in my Nikon D5200. I always trust branded spare batteries over aftermarket ones, and so far that has worked out for me. I mostly use my D5200 for video so if you're like me, you'll probably want to get a couple of these.
