        Comments about Slik U8000 Tripod:

using it steadily for the last month, mostly outdoors with a Canon T31 + assorted lenses & a Panasonic 700 camcorder. The head assembly is solid and maneuverable, the legs extend easily & are stable on the ground, and the tripod is lightweight and easily transportable. Haven't found any negatives yet. Highly recommended for consumers.

            Comments about Slik U8000 Tripod:

I actually use these little tripods as light stands for my Nikon Speedlights. I do real estate photography and find them better than regular light stands because of the small footprint and the fact that they are sturdy even when extended only a few inches. I can hide them behind furniture and in narrow spaces. I attach the Nikon AS-19 mini stand to the tripod so all I have to do when I get to a location is pop open the light stands and slide the Speedlight into the AS-19. The bag that comes with the tripod is sturdy and allows me to carry everything very easily. I ordered another model and return it to buy the U8000 by Slik. (I would like o claim credit with the idea of using a tripod as a light stand, but it came from Scott Hargis, a talented real estate photographer/teacher.)

This tripod is very sturdily built and it is very stable in the field.

I am using it for plein aire painting and the Coulter Palette Box and easel frame make a supurb combination. The entire set up is less than 5 pounds so it is easy to carry into the field.

                  Comments about Slik U8000 Tripod:

I've had this tripod for over 10 years now and I've never had any problems with it. It's a basic tripod with very few bells and even fewer whistles. The legs go up and they go down. You can swivel your camera 360 degrees, or point it up towards the sky or down to the ground and have no worries about locking eveything into place.

There's nothing fancy about this thing and if I were going into a war zone, this isn't the tripod that I would want with me. But for normal things like taking pictures at home or ordinary landscape photography where you can respect your equipment, you won't find much better than this one for the price.

Holds any camera I have. Lightweight and the price was right. However, as others have reported, the crank lever broke off with just a little pressure, but I can still raise it using my fingers. Cheap construction on the crank. I'd advise to be very careful using the crank lever.

                              Comments about Slik U8000 Tripod:

This has been my only tripod for several years, although it hasn't seen much use. It seems reasonably well built overall for the price, but I've had two problems with it. First, the lever broke off the crank for raising and lowering the center column. This isn't that big a deal since it's still possible to adjust the height, but annoying nonetheless. Second, the anti-rotation pin on the quick-release plate isn't in the right position to work with my Olympus E-620. This isn't a problem for horizontal shots, but when you flip the head over for vertical shots, heavier lenses make the camera unscrew from the quick-release plate. If the pin fit right or they had designed the head to flip the other direction, this wouldn't have been a problem.
