The ViewSonic Pro8500 XGA DLP Projector is a high-performance unit designed to support up to 120Hz frame rate through the 3D DLP Sync. The DLP imaging chip is so fast, it is able to project two images on the screen at one time to create the 3D image viewed through the active glasses. In addition to the two images on the screen, the DLP chip also sends similar data to the glasses in-between each frame of video to make the magic of 3D possible.
The impressive specs include a blazing 5,000 lumens of brightness, enough to meet most ambient light challenges. In fact, you can leave the lights on during presentations to take notes. XGA (1,024 x 768) resolution is backed with a super-crisp dynamic contrast ratio of 3,000:1, to deliver stunning all-digital clarity with vivid color, sharp graphics and outstanding video. BrilliantColor's sophisticated 5-segment color (RGBWY) wheel provides greater color accuracy than standard DLP projectors with a 4-segment color wheel. The result is greater sharpness, brightness and contrast in lifelike images with remarkable depth.
The digital keystone adjustment feature takes the guess work out of adjusting your image and reduces set-up time, while the Pro8500's wide connectivity which includes HDMI allows a one-cable connection to digital sources.
The Pro8500 accommodates installations from permanent ceiling-mounted to simple desk-mounted use, making it a perfect choice for boardrooms and educational institutions. The RJ-45 connection makes remote control of multiple projectors across a network possible, as well as allowing messaging or bulletins throughout a campus or corporate facility.
For power, superior color, world-wide use and Mac or PC compatibility, the Viewsonic Pro8500 is hard to beat.

We are using this projector in a church auditorium about 90 feet long and shine it onto a 118" (diagonal) screen.
It is much brighter than our old projector. The first time using it, I was surprised to notice that shadows were cast from the light reflected from the screen onto the pulpit. The picture, both in color and contrast, is fantastic. This is true when we use it for presentation slides, song slides (black on white), and even for a video clip I showed to test the system.
We have quite a bit of ambient light in our auditorium. I formerly had to dim the lights to show photo slideshows or video. No more.
The wireless option (through a USB dongle) is very handy, although the IR remote works much further than I had anticipated based on the range of the remote which went with our old projector.
The only knock on this unit, so far as I am concerned, is that focus and zoom are manual only. Since our projector is hanging 20+ feet from the floor, we had to be very careful to get these right before a brave volunteer came down from the ladder.
That having been said, I could not find a projector with specs like this one anywhere near the price, and it would not have been worth the extra money to get focus and zoom on the remote.

Great Product With One Major Flaw
The image is great (three or four times better than the projector it replaced). Installation was easy. This would be a five star product, except for one MAJOR flaw.

We have two computers feeding into this projector. We need to be able to switch from one to the other quickly and seamlessly. Our old projector (more than ten years old) made the switch without anyone noticing. This projector pauses for close to a full minute (with a silly logo on the screen) and then finally makes the switch. This is unacceptable. We may have to return it.

This is my 3rd projector purchased for our office as the Pro8500 has become our defacto standard. Great color and clarity, easy to setup and maintain.

Comments about Viewsonic Pro8500 XGA DLP Projector:
We use this projector as a large computer screen for videoconferencing and giving power point presentations in a VERY bright room (sunlight shines in all afternoon, even through the blinds).
It is a wonderful alternative to having students crowd around a single computer monitor, and the colors are so bright! You can adjust the contrast to your specific presentation by just entering a menu with the remote--very user friendly.
We still haven't figured out how to adjust the brightness. If you use the remote, it *says* it is adjusting to 100% brightness, but we do not notice a difference. However it is bright enough at the pre-set 50%, so this is a minor concern.

We use this projector to show video presentations on a large screen in semi dark rooms. We've used less powerful projectors that showed vague images that were washed out whenever someone opened a door to enter or leave. We are very happy with our purchase.

We just installed this projector in our sanctuary. We are running it in economy mode and is is so bright and clear. The difference from our old projector is night and day. The lights in the sanctuary don't even affect the screen now.
My only issue is I have not got the e-mail alerts to work yet.

I love this projector. It is very bright, which we needed due to lots of stained glass windows. Wish I had gotten it sooner. You can't go wrong with this one.
