Comments about Logan Graphics 860 Platinum Edge 60" (152cm) Mat Cutter:
The Logan Platinum Edge 860 is a quality mat sizing and bevel cutting tool that can handle heavy and large matting materials with ease. The base is constructed of heavy aluminum and the squaring arm and cutter slide are equally rigid. This mat cutter can be set up to cut production quantities or used to make custom one-of-a-kind mats. The installed measuring tapes are accurate. The machine arrived properly calibrated and there are numerous adjustments that are easily accessed and well thought out.
Logan Graphics provides an instructional DVD and also has numerous excellent on-line videos available covering a variety of topics from mat cutting to framing.
Although this mat cutter is expensive, it will pay for itself with a reasonable number of projects.
One area where Logan Graphics could improve this cutter are in placing calibrated delineations for beginning and ending cuts instead of the recommended approximately 3/16" ahead and beyond the actual window cut line method. The beginning and ending points will vary depending on media thickness but that can be easily calculated with a little practice. Similarly the blade depth could be precisely calculated for both straight and bevel cuts based on media thickness.
Overall this mat cutter appears to be of a quality that will last for many years and thereby is a decent value.
