Professor Kobre's Lightscoop Universal Standard Mirror Bounce for Pop-Up Flash turns your DSLR's built-in pop-up flash into a fine lighting instrument, banishing unsightly black shadows, the evil (red) eye, and nasty hot spots from your photographs, and replacing them with a softer, gentler light that flatters your subject, whether man or woman, old or young, dog or cat, fish or fowl.
Too good to be true? Nope, it works, and you don't have to be a technical wizard to use it, either. This small low-tech device creates soft, flattering light by using a small mirror to redirect light from your camera's pop-up flash to a ceiling or wall, which reflects the light, spreading it out and softening it, for greatly improved photos. Just slip the Lightscoop over your camera's pop-up flash, follow the simple directions, and, bingo!--you can stop deleting half your pictures because of the ugly lighting.
In addition to this standard mirror, a warming mirror which adds a light amber color for more pleasing skin tones is available separately.
The Lightscoop is designed for use only with DSLRs using interchangeable lenses with a pop-up, built-in flash--the flash on point-and-shoot cameras isn't strong enough for use with the Lightscoop.
For Sony cameras, you must use the Lightscoop Sony Standard or Warming Mirror. This Lightscoop Universal Standard Mirror is compatible with:
Canon 7D, 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D, 60D, Rebel XTi OR 400, Rebel XT OR 350, Rebel XSI or 450, Rebel XS or 1000D, Rebel T1i or EOS 500D, Rebel T2i or EOS 550D, Rebel T3i or EOS 600D

I have no professional lighting alternatives other than the pop-up flash on my Canon 50D. So, before I begin investing in professional lighting, I thought I would give the 'USM' a try. I love it. Such a simple tool and very easy to use. It easily slides right into the hot shoe. A huge difference in the quality of my images. I hated how the flash on it's own would make my subjects look so washed out. Using the USM creates a lovely, soft glow rather than that ugly glare. The only negative is if the ceiling is too high or outdoors, it will not work as it uses the ceiling in a room to bounce the light off of.

Great soft light with nice catchlights if you are only working in landscape mode and the subject is within 3-4 feet. If you plan to use in in portrait mode, the flash will need to be bounced off of a wall. The on camera flash is just not powerful enough to do that kind of bouncing. If subjects are farther away, your pics will be underexposed, even when cranking up the exposure compensation.
Since I have a speedlite, this will probably collect dust in a drawer. I thought it would be nice when I want to travel light, but It is not small and very limited.

While it did provide more even lighting than my pop-up flash...it certainly did not look like the examples provided. I was sure to follow all instructions. I returned this item and spent the money on an external flash instead.

Comments about Lightscoop Universal Standard Mirror Bounce for Pop-Up Flash:
I would have given this a 4 star rating if the construction was such that it would fit my camera correctly. The concept is great, and to get photos like the picture that is shown, you'll have to do some amount of post processing. I figured that with post processing and regular flash, I'll be able to get a very close picture.
The biggest issue that I had was not the way that it performed, as I would've been okay with it. It was the construction, the hot-shoe wouldn't fit right in my hot-shoe mount (Nikon D7100), so you have to push it real hard, and when I tried to pull it out, a part of the hot-shoe broke and got stuck in between the blades inside the mount. I know this is the case specifically for this unit, as I have other flash units and those don't require the kind of effort to put on or off the mount.
Overall a horribly bad product that did not take the size of the mount for different cameras when designing it, and advertised the product for all cameras.

Comments about Lightscoop Universal Standard Mirror Bounce for Pop-Up Flash:
Bought the Lightscoop to aid in shooting pictures of our black Lab. They're notoriously difficult dogs to photograph due to camera metering issues, and direct flash tends causes green-eye and strange contrast issues.
Having a bounce mirror helps immensely, and this one is near perfect. Bouncing the flash off the ceiling or a wall helps get more light without the blown-out foreground that the onboard flash can cause. Also, I don't have to worry about getting the dark arc at the bottom of images where the lens hood partially blocks the onboard flash.
It will slow the TTL metering and focus with some lenses, but for tripod-mounted shots and manual focus, this can easily be overcome.

I bought the Light Scoop after someone recommended it to me in a photography forum. I am learning how to use my camera in manual mode and have trouble getting enough light for subjects inside my house. This product is great for extra light for indoor photos. I get a brighter picture without the hideous shadows of the default camera flash and without the bulk and weight of an external bounce flash. I thought about buying the warming version of this product, but have discovered that you can get the same effect by setting your white balance to shade or cloudy.I am very pleased with the results I have had so far. The product works as advertised. The product seems very sturdy and fits snugly on my camera. The only complaint I have so far is that it is a bit bulky, however, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks for me.I highly recommend this product for someone who is not ready to buy an external flash but needs more light for their exposures.

After using a piece of white paper taped around my flash for a while, and liking the results, I ordered this mirror bounce and I'm glad I did. It works just as it says it does. To be honest, I've only gotten to use it a few times on our recent vacation but I could tell from my camera that it worked just as I'd hoped and made indoor pictures at my sister's so much better. I haven't been able to upload any yet but I'm greatly anticipating it. I actually took a few without the mirror and then with the mirror in the same settings and the difference was phenomenal. Its true that you cannot turn your camera vertically but I can adapt to that. I'm very happy with the purchase.

Comments about Lightscoop Universal Standard Mirror Bounce for Pop-Up Flash:
This is a great little piece to make your pop-up flash create pleasing pictures. The bounce is quick and easy to put on, plus it comes with instructions for optimizing your camera settings to get good pictures. It's not the answer for every situation, but it does eliminate red-eye and it's way better looking than a dead on flash. Your family event pictures will look better than everyone else's.

Comments about Lightscoop Universal Standard Mirror Bounce for Pop-Up Flash:
This product works *exactly* as described and I'm very happy with the results. I take a lot of casual photos at home, so I was looking for something to soften my built-in flash (T2i) without having to attach a bounce flash. In order to get the best results, be sure to follow manufacturer's setting instructions (ISO, flash intensity, etc). Because it is not a bounce flash, you must depend on the walls to help diffuse your light, so you have to be mindful where you are when you take the photo (ceilings that are not too high, vertical shots require a wall close by,e tc). As for casual use, really enjoying the results. Installs quickly and easily... I only wish it came with a hard cover carrying case because it may not take a lot of pressure in a bag or if it ends up being dropped on a hard floor.

I love this and it is such a great deal. Other reviews talk about it being flimsy, but it's not as fragile as they lead you to believe. If you're carrying it around in your camera bag with all of your other equipment it will be fine. I could see it breaking if you say...step on it...so don't do that! I love that I can finally take pictures of my pet without the evil eye glare, and it definitely takes nice shots inside. Follow the instructions to set up your camera and you won't be disappointed. I don't have the cash to buy an expensive flash attachment right now, so this is perfect for the time being and I have already put it to good use.

I purchased this item for my Canon Rebel T2i and I followed the very specific instructions on how to use it. It made almost no difference to my pictures and the instructions for use required 3 different adjustments to my normal settings: up the ISO to 800, change the metering mode to center-weighted average and raise the built-in flash exposure compensation to +2. After jumping through all those hoops, it still didn't do a good job for straight-on photos. When I took a picture looking slightly down, it did as good a job as my normal settings without it! There was nothing in the write-up to indicate that it was incompatible with my particular camera, so I concluded that it was seriously overpriced for it's performance and I sent it back. B&H refunded my money promptly and without fuss.
