The POV.HD records stunning 1920 x 1080p and 1280 x 720p high def footage that will show every heart-pounding moment in breath-taking detail. So, go ahead and watch it on your HDTV without worry - you'll feel just like you're there!

The POV.HD camera uses a 0.7m-inifinity fixed focus lens that boasts 142°, 120°, and 95° fields of view for all encompassing video. The lens also captures digital stills, allowing you to keep your recording needs to a minimum; VIO knows you don't want to be weighed down when you're out doing your thing. No matter what you record though, every minute of video and every still image will store directly to SD/SDHC memory cards up to 32GB.

The POV.HD features in-camera editing, exposure control, and 4 different recording methods. Tag scenes using the wireless remote, improve color and exposure metering with a touch, and a select from Clip, Loop, Loop and forward, and still image mode.

In addition to providing you with full HD video, a stellar lens, and in-camera controls and editing options, the POV.HD is one tough cookie. The camera boasts a shock proof, water proof, and dust proof design. That means: underwater up to 3.3' is no problem - In a dusty local? No worries! A little drop? No biggie!

What's more, the POV.HD isn't complicated. Everything from shooting to power is kept as simple as possible so you can focus on your main objective - whether that be jumping out of a plane, careening down a stretch of single track, or kayaking miles of shore line. Just 4 'AA' batteries power the system for hours of shooting enjoyment. Modular mounting options makes it easy to attach the camera wherever you need it for the best angle possible, while the included wireless remote puts the power at your fingertips - for quick, easy control of the camera.

I've been a V.I.O. user for many years, and despite the fact that there are many more POV models to choose from these days, I still think what V.I.O. has to offer is superior to anything else out there. Here's why:

    1) Slim profile camera head
The fact that all other POV cameras less than 1k resemble huge plastic boxes, is a real hindrance to unique mounting solutions and look terrible when filming an athlete or subject wearing one of those things.

    2) In-field flexibility
Once again, V.I.O. is the only POV camera solution less than 1k that offers a menu of recording modes, exposure settings, multiple video codecs, external mic jack, and more.

    3) LCD Screen
Want to make sure you aren't looking at the sky? That the unit is on? That you got the shot you needed? Me too.

    4) Remote control
Stash the POV.HD in hard-to-reach areas (backpacks, cars, planes, boats) and remotely control it.

    5) IF67
Funny thing is that everything more expensive than this, isn't ruggedized! Really, there is no point in owning a POV camera that can't be dropped or blasted by water/wind/dirt at high speeds.

You'll also find that the 1080p quality is as beautiful as it gets. 142 FOV, is wider than anything else you'll find too. Highly recommend this camera if you're serious about producing top-notch POV.

I got this camera from B&H as soon as it became available at the end of 2010. I used this camera for skiing. I had the camera mounted on the shoulder strap of my backpack. It worked pretty well for me last season, with some caveats (see below). The images are quite clear, though image stabilization while skiing is not as good as that of GoPro HD cameras.

The lens cover does not attach securely over the camera head. There is no mechanism to speak of, you just push it it. There is a small rubber band around the the lens which is supposed to hold the lens cover in place. On my camera head this did not work at all. A screw-on type of mechanism would make the cover stay better. I'm told in the meantime the rubber band is beefier and holds the cover better, but I don't have confirmation of this.

The lens holder for shoulder strap does not have a way to lock the camera in place. Tightening the screws too much will prevent you from adjusting the camera while you're out. Too many times I started with the camera properly positioned, only to discover later that the camera rotated slightly in its mount. The resulting is of course tilted and you cannot do anything about it at the end of the day.

As a result of the bad lens cover, I ended up losing it after the first few runs of the season. With no lens cover in place, I ended up getting a scratch on the front glass of the lens. I called customer support to ask them to fix or replace the glass lens, but they said they cannot do it nor would they replace my still functioning head with another one (camera is still in warranty). I'd have to buy a complete head, something which they sell for more about $210. A year later their lens cover mechanism is still push-in, which means there's no guarantee of not losing the cover again and ending up with a scratched lens.

What can I say? At this point I have an unusable POV.HD system, and for the price of fixing the head, I'd rather get a new GoPro HD camera system.

Comments about V.I.O. POV.HD Digital Helmet Camera System:

Now you can join in and have fun too with your friends, everything is on the memory card. All the action is live. No side line video taping. The POV.HD is right there. Very easy to set-up, strap-on and forget about it. Weather-proof, with recording times to 4 hours, 30fps or 60fps. your choice but I find I prefer 30fps. Use AA Lithium Ion for better lasting batteries[5 hours max]. Everything you need is in the box. Extremely lightweight, you will forget your wearing it until someone asks What's that? Still image is clear with all the details. Remote is fun and wireless. Sit down and record the action as you view. Camera unit small and attaches to anything.

Comments about V.I.O. POV.HD Digital Helmet Camera System:

I primarily use the POV.HD for skiing, although I have taken it for a couple of mountain bike rides. The raw footage looks incredible…color, detail and fluid motion. As a skier, I like the POV.HD because it is easy to use…easy to check the camera alignment on the fly, just press the remote button and you are recording. Unlike every other camera it is unobtrusive, light and low profile. Since the recording unit is separate I keep it in my jacket and because the unit is in a warmer environment the battery life is great. No one seems to talk about this but this is a HUGE advantage because some days I won't have to change batteries (I use Sanyo rechargeables). That said it is common for 1 battery change out during a cold ski day, usually after lunch. My friends that have Gopro's have to change out much more often. When I'm mountain biking, I've never had to change out batteries. Another advantage of a tethered system with separate cam and recorder, in the event of a crash I don't worry about losing the camera. This is a fairly common occurrence with Gopro users.

I've had the POV.HD for two years and I recently started to look at new models on the market…the GoPro 3/3+ takes fantastic video but it is too unreliable, too many parts and pieces you need to worry about, the wifi lag and battery life is horrible. The Drift Ghost, JVC Addixion 2, Replay XD and Sony AS30V seem like appealing options, however, I still think the POV.HD has a better image. Really impressed with Replay XD's mounting options, optional external tethered battery packs and lens adapter which allows use of ND or polarizing filters, but I think I'll wait till their next generation unit is out. Sure the POV.HD doesn't do 1080/60 (or higher) as some of the new cams do, but at this point I can't justify upgrading. VIO...the next POV should have a smaller recording unit, allow a greater field of view for 720p footage and do 1080/60, 720/120 and you should revert back to a separate camera head/cord versus an integrated head that cannot detach from the cord.

Comments about V.I.O. POV.HD Digital Helmet Camera System:

I bought this camera to use while dirt bike riding and the picture is Terrible. Once your moving fast or if the camera is moving around a lot through helmet movements then its difficu to distinguish different items in the background. I used it on a rainy overcast day and it is definitely waterproof, the screen is excellent for adjustment, the romote was okay but the record button stopped working half way through the day?? And the very first time I pressed it the unit did t start recording so I missed some good footage. I will now always check to make sure it is recording. Once water gets on the lens its difficult to see anything but that's pretty standard I'm going to try a hydrophobic coating to fix that. I was mostly disappointed in the picture the colour was poor and the scenery we were riding in was magnificent but I couldn't tell looking at the footage. Ill try it again on a dry day with a lot more light to see if that makes any difference and ill also try a harder mount to see if that stops some movement blur. Also my bike is loud (yz450f) and the sound was poor, it saturated the mic. It also didn't pickup my friend abusing his bike about10meters away after he fell off which I was also disappointed about. I expect the best when I buy something so I could be being harsh but this was the best camera I could find (wanted a ccd head but noone sells them) and it doesnt seem that great so far.

Comments about V.I.O. POV.HD Digital Helmet Camera System:

This is a unit that has a few advantages over GoPro - easy-to-find AA batteries, and a live LCD screen that you can mount in such a way that you can see it while it's on a helmet. Overall, it's a good system, good image quality, easy-to-use SD cards, but it has a weak link in a critical place - the lens cable connector - on a cable that is permanently affixed to the camera head itself. There are warnings everywhere about being careful to insert the cable properly, and that they won't replace if you damage it, but unfortunately, it's poorly designed. Try as you might to get it right, it is entirely possible to miss the mark, ever so slightly, and have no idea you're doing it wrong until you find that it's not connecting, and that you've irreparably bent the connector pins, leaving you out of luck. VIO won't replace or repair the camera head, even under warranty - mine wasn't under warranty anymore anyway. I can't recommend this anymore, and frankly, this is a design flaw that borderline begs for a recall. My next one will be a GoPro. No finicky connections, and it's a product that keeps getting improved. On the other hand, VIO was bought in mid-2012, the hardware hasn't changed since it was released, and there have been no firmware updates since December 2011. When I had the problem, there wasn't even any stock of new camera heads for a couple of months. If you really want this unit, make SURE you get it with a connection extension cable. Therefore, you can connect that to the head and LEAVE it there - if you mess up the extension while connecting and disconnecting it, that's much easier to replace than the entire camera head. Otherwise, get a warranty that protects against accidental damage, because it's VERY easy to get yourself into a situation where you need it.

I bought the V.I.O. to document the work of search dogs. Its been working flawlessly and produces excellent quality video for the size of it's components.
Need to purchase LithIon rechargables as it eats AA alkaline batteries like popcorn.
Have used it with a low impedance short shotgun and a tripod mount to do some pick-ups and liked the quality of the audio. A headphone jack would be a plus.
Like the big buttons on the remote control, but wish it had more than a 1 meter range.

This camera has as many uses as you can imagine. It's noticeably rugged - just wish the batteries lasted longer. Abetter microphone would make it flawless .

Image quality is totally higher, no need to double check the image size by its LCD.

Comments about V.I.O. POV.HD Digital Helmet Camera System:

I've used the V.I.O. sd pov a lot in the past and really wasn't to thrilled with it. But i was blown away how great the picture looks on their HD model. I shoot a lot on an EX-3 and Canon DSLR, so I've been trying to find a good POV that will mix well. It has great color depth so pushing the colors a bit in post, to better match my other cameras isn't a problem. also i bought the ram suction cup mount and was amazed how rock solid it is doing 60 mph down a bumpy highway, even with it outside of the vehicle.
My Dislikes- 1. the audio is useless, so having a "safety" just in case the other cams aren't rolling isn't an option.
                        2. the cable from the lens to the body is only about 5 ft. and i haven't found an option to buy a longer cable like the sd model because the cable goes straight in to the lens, rather than having a connector like the old model.
overall, I would by another one.

So far, this looks like it will be very usable for my intended purpose, which is on my motorcycle. The other more commonly seen systems (which are less expensive) do not have the capability for you to frame the image ... so you really don't know what you will capture. The very small video head should allow for very flexible mounting. Nothing is perfect for all applications. I think this will work for mine.

I used this pov hd for paintball games, it's great because it can take a shot directly and work right through the game. The only draw back I found with the pov hd is that I wore the pov pouch, it was a pain in the neck to have to reach down and open my pouch to either turn the pov on/off between games in order to save on battery life. Other than that product worked as it should and better.

Comments about V.I.O. POV.HD Digital Helmet Camera System:

We bought this after trying out the GoPro Hero HD for a video shoot. On the upside, the picture is better, especially indoors, where the GoPro was super noisy. But it should be, it's more expensive. Now the downside. We are using this camera for a video shoot, and have gone through FOUR of them from B and H within two weeks. The first one started getting terrible vertical lines and noise the night before the shoot, so we rescheduled and had another one shipped. The second one started giving us the "no camera detected" message the same day we got it (which these do). Usually the fix for this is to reboot, but for this camera, there was still nothing and we could not get any signal back. Reschedule shoot. The 3rd one we just fired up and the left side of the image is blurry! We ordered two more, one as backup so we could get our shots, and we just fired up the 4th one, hopefully it doesn't break in the next day or two, but I have low expectations. This camera has tremendous potential, but the items we've gotten from B and H have been horrible. I don't know if this is a bad batch in stock or what, [...]. Not ready for prime time, I can't imagine how quickly they may fail if someone was actually using these in a sports POV situation (we're just walking around with it strapped to a helmet). Huge disappointment.

Comments about V.I.O. POV.HD Digital Helmet Camera System:

First off when I took it out of the box it was DOA, no power at all. I gave it a good inspection and at the bottom of the battery chamber (very difficult to see) was a bar code tag blocking the contact. It took me half hour to fish it out and the POV.HD was working fine (do they even inspect these???).

I think the camera is ok, quality good, but not great. It doesn't do a great job in rapidly changine light, but not too bad. In 1080 mode fish eye is very apparent. It is designed like that, but IMHO limits the use of this. 720 better, again for what I want.

Also you must have a screwdriver or coin around to change the batteries or access the flash card. It's tough to make a quick change because of this.
One other trivial but very annoying feature is the carrying case. While it is very convenient, it is difficult to replace the camera head and cord, which has proved to be a pain in the field. Speaking of the cord, it is a good length, but no way reduce the excess (like on laptop chargers) since there is not velcro on it. If you are shooting by hand, it really gets in the way. Also for this price I would have like to have had an external lens cover. One rock in the wrong spot and you need a whole new camera head.

While I am on a roll, the connection to the camera seems pretty weak. As they instruct, you have to be very careful when attaching the camera. It can be easily misaligned. Also there is no dust cover over the pins on the recording unit once the camera is removed. Again at this price you would think there would be one.

I think there technical support is pretty good, but it really annoyed me when I took a photo of the tag blocking the contact, emailed it to them, and got a message back assuring me that each camera was tested by their own people and works properly when it leaves the factory. Obviously this is not the case, so I am very concerned about their quality control. You would think they would at least apologize instead of implying that I must be mistaken.

Over all, this is a good product, but way overpriced for the quality, or rather lack of it. A little more attention to end user details, and I think this would have been great. I haven't tried any of the other, but I need a few more POV and won't be buying VIO.

Comments about V.I.O. POV.HD Digital Helmet Camera System:

Obtained for use during demonstrations/protests to capture the events as evidence. Industry leading adjustments to this unit can be easily made on the go. No other unit made at any price can do what the VIO HD can. Rugged, it can take a decent amount of abuse from both operator or demonstrator !
