Comments about Azden 310LH UHF On-Camera Handheld & Bodypack System:

This is used for recording live training sessions to be produced on DVD and streamed on the internet. So far, I have only used for eight hours of recording, so this review is subject to modification later.

Thus far, the bodypack transmitter and the camera mount receiver have worked very well. Battery life was estimated at six hours, but after six hours I still have full power on the bodypack transmitter and 2 of 3 bars indicated on the receiver.

As for audio quality, the lavaliere microphone that comes with this kit is mediocre at best. It picks up a lot of low end noise and the audio seems to be weighted toward the low end EQ range. I would suggest upgrading to a better microphone for serious recording, like the Countryman E6.

I love the range of frequencies available for this unit, and found setting the operating frequency easy and intuitive.

The operating manual which accompanies this could be improved. I found it very basic and in some ways incomplete. For example, a short cable is included for connecting the receiver output to the camera's microphone input. The manual simply says connect one end to the receiver and the other to the camera. in reality, one is mono right angle, and the other is stereo straight plug. For proper audio, the mono right angle plug MUST be plugged into the receiver and the stereo end of the cable into the camera. The manual mentioned nothing about this and I did not notice the difference in the cable until my first recording when I had the ends of the cable reversed and the audio came out very muffled on the recording.

Aside from the manual and the mediocre lavaliere mic, the rest of the unit performs well. The carrying case included is an added bonus. A decent value for the money.
