That DSLR weighing you down? Samsung posits an answer with their NX100 Mirrorless Digital Camera W/20-50mm Lens (Brown). Designed with the pro, as well as any enthusiastic lover of photography in mind, the NX100 gives you the best of both worlds - manual controls, a 20-50mm zoom lens with interchangeable lens options, 720p HD video, and an APS-C sensor with 14.6MP - all in a compact and lightweight camera. The NX100 wants to be your favorite go-to rig, with convenience and the fun features of today's ever changing compact digital cameras.
The NX100 utilizes its i-Function lens to make switching things up easy and intuitive. The built-in i-Scene system mode instantly identifies the type of lens that you've attached. Then, i-Scene suggests the kinds of scenes that particular lens is idea for. Using the i-Function lens and the i-Function button you have the ability to change settings such as ISO, shutter speed, aperture, EV, and WB for the correct settings for your scene.
No matter what lens you've attached the NX100 shoots both 14.6MP stills and 720p HD video, using its "super large" APS-C CMOS sensor. With the ability to go up to 6400 in the ISO setting, even capturing low light settings without a flash is a possibility. And video or stills, the camera's impressive 3" AMOLED display helps you compose, playback and enjoy all your memories.
When it comes time to spice things up, the NX100 gives you the option to use creative filters using its Smart Filter feature. Choose from the miniature filter, the vignetting filter, the fisheye filter and more to give your images some personality. Other helpful features of the NX100 include the ability to add on a number of optional accessories - like GPS, flashes, of course the aforementioned additional lenses, and a remote.

This camera is a great compact, large sensor camera. Its user interface is much more photographer-friendly than my GF-1, or even my Nikon D90. The lenses are sharp. I have the 20-50mm, the 50-200mm and the 30mm prime.
-- The 20-50mm matches the famous Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 lens at focal lengths 35 and 50, at f/5.6 and smaller. it's a bit softer at 20-24mm.
-- The 50-200 is just a tad softer than the 20mm 1.7, but sharpens up nicely.
-- The 30mm f/2 is sharper than my 20mm 1.7.
-- build quality of the 30mm and 50-200mm is excellent. the 20-50mm is plastic.
The camera is largely plastic, but that makes it very light to carry around. It does not feel flimsy or unsturdy.
The best part of the camera is the i-function. with the ifunction, there are 3 wheels to control settings, and 2 function buttons. almost all changes are just 1 button away.
The UI is better than the NEX, even w/ upgraded software. The 30mm prime beats the NEX 16mm prime. the high iso (1600 and over) lags behind NEX but is better than GF1. The LED screen is fantastic.
the weakness of this camera is video. i do not shoot video. if you do, then you should consider the panasonic GH2. also, there are 5 more lenses coming out next year!

I bought this camera because of its APS-C sensor. I wanted to keep this camera but unfortunately the image quality is only fair. It took me a lot of time in Photoshop to produce a decent finish image. Nikon D 5000 put this camera to same. The camera's performance is excellent. However, I want both: excellent performance and image quality. So I returned it. Sorry Samsung, you're in the right track and will do better next time.

This camera is very well built and feels very sturdy in your hands. The lack of viewfinder forces you to second-guess your settings...I consider it a beauty. One big negative would the lack of a shine resistant screen, although that is an easy fix. Don't expect noise free pictures past ISO 1600, although night photography with this camera is superb. The main reason reason why I purchased the Samsung NX100 was for the 720p video which is mediocre at best. Also note if you want flash you will have to purchase an external flash. Overall, I still highly recommend purchasing this camera if this within your price range.

Comments about NX100 Mirrorless Digital Camera W/20-50mm Lens (Brown):
After researching the NX100 I felt it would fill a niche that I have been lacking in photographic tools, and the NX100 has. I use pro Canon 1D DSLR's for all of my wildlife work. I needed a camera for street photography, one that would not draw unwanted attention to myself. The NX100 is light in weight, easy on the neck. I find myself carrying this camera many places I would not want to take the 1dmk4's because of size and again not wanting to draw attention to myself.
I wanted a camera that would produce a high qualty image and that had an APS-C senser with good ISO performance. The NX100 produces images at ISO 2000 that are quite good.
The menu is well accessed, easy to navigate with many of the more important functions of the camera having several ways to allow you to control them.
The NX100 comes with the 20-50mm F3.5-5.6 lens. I also acquired the 30mm F2 and the 50-200mm F3.5-5.6 lens. I find that I have been using the 30mm F2 lens the most lately both indoors and out.
The quality of material and workmanship of the NX100 body and lense is high.
As to faults in the NX100 for my intended use I can't find any. One feature that would be nice would be an articulating LCD.
I would also suggest an extra battery as I would with any camera.

Comments about NX100 Mirrorless Digital Camera W/20-50mm Lens (Black):
Great camera that is getting closer to being a great small camera. It is a well thought out camera that is easy to hold and shoot. The APC size chip helps the noise factor at 400 and 800 ISO. It is not as a good as I would like, but it is a step in the right direction of lower noise at higher ISOs.
It is very light, it responds quickly, the controls are well placed, and the menus are nicely organized. It took me a few day to get my hands around this camera, but I like it now. As with any small framed camera that has not finder, it is harder to steady the camera with just your arms out looking at the camera LCD. It is the nature of the beast. Work great on a tripod.
I love the manual focus. Most small point and shoot are less that easy to manual focus. The NX-100 focuses mostly like a "real" camera. The manual exposure is just as easy. The auto setting work well, too.
The 20-50mm lens is OK at best. It is sharp, but it is not going to wow anybody. Samsung did add a neat feature to the lens. There is a button (iFN) on the lens that allows you the quickly access exposure control, ISO, and white balance. It is nice.
The zoom on the lens is manual. That is wonderful. I do not care for power zooms. They are slow and there is something else to break.
The lens factor for this camera is x1.5. I don't know anything about their other lenses, but a f2.8 20mm prime lens (like a 30mm lens) is coming out in the future I am interested in. I would rather have a 18mm lens (like a 27mm), but a 20mm will do. There is a good bit a barrel distortion at 20-30mm on the 20-50mm lens. Light room will fix without much fuss.
I use Canon 1Ds MK III and 5D MK II for my pro work, but they are heavy. The NX-100 is a dream to walk around with and no back pain! I shot a Canon G10 before as a small, light camera. The G10 shoots beautiful images at 100 ISO and maybe at 200 ISO. 400 ISO and up are progressively bad with golf ball type noise. I just wanted a bit better that Canon could deliver in a small format. Don't get wrong, I love my Canons. They are just not for every condition. I would not use the NX-100 to shoot my paying assignments either.
If you want a small point and shoot type camera that is easy to use and is very flexible shooting, the NX-100 should do you well. It is well built and easy to use.
Happy snapping
