I gave this Sony, model DPR-XR100 viewer as a gift to my wife. She uses it to display family photos, especially snapshots of our grandkids. She loves it. I love it.
There are three "picture modes," Portrait, Standard, and Vivid. The unit ships in Standard mode. I changed the setting to Portrait mode. To my eyes, this improved the amount of detail visible in darker areas of the pictures and in areas of more saturated color. It also made the darker colors more accurate, although I suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
The viewing angle is advertised as 160 degrees. My judgment is that the viewing angle is perhaps the best I've ever seen on an LCD display. However if you are at the limit of 160 degrees then you are 80 degrees off axis. No display can look good from such an angle. If this display is mounted in landscape format then I was very satisfied with the view in a 120 degree range horizontally (up to 60 degrees off axis) and a 90 degree range vertically (up to 45 degrees off axis). Contrast and color accuracy are somewhat reduced outside of those ranges. Although not giving ideal views all the way out to 160 degrees, this is much better than your typical computer screen. (The DPF-XR100 supports portrait mounting too. It automatically rotates the pictures to keep the top of the picture upward. But then then the best viewing is within a 90 degree range horizontally and a 120 degree range vertically.)
The brightness of the screen is more than adequate for my needs. It ships at its maximum brightness setting of 10. I turned it down to 7 to make it blend into our room decor better. This is enough brightness to compete with daylight coming in the windows during the day, but not so much as to be glaring in the evenings when there is no daylight. The brightness does not automatically adjust according to the ambient light.
As usual for this type of product, the advertised size of the screen is exaggerated. (How do they get away with this?) It is advertised as a 10.2" screen. The actual picture size is 8.13" x 5.08" (9.58" diagonal) as measured by me with a ruler from the corners of the visible area of actual photographs that fill the entire area of the screen. In SI units that's a 26 cm diagonal, as stated on the specifications page of the owner's manual, but you get an actual picture size of 20.7 cm x 12.9 cm (24.4 cm diagonal), as measured by me with a ruler from the corners of actual displayed pictures. The aspect ratio is 16:10, exactly as advertised.
The resolution is very very good for this size screen. The photos look every bit as sharp as well printed magazine photos on smooth paper. The screen is 1024 x 600 pixels. Each pixel is about 0.00793" wide by 0.00847" high (0.202 mm wide by 0.215 high), based on the stated resolution of 1024 by 600 pixels (each pixel having 3 components, red, green, and blue) divided into my own measurements of the screen made with a ruler, as given above. The aspect ratio of my photos is not distorted by the rectangular pixel size. For example, the wheels on a photo of a car are correctly shown as circular, not oval shaped.

We gave this frame to a friend who is an artist with no computer. Thus, it is a way the art work can be seen and also shown to others.
It is very easy to use, shows good detail of the photographs, with back lighting, and true colors. The 2GB memory and the ease of down loading from various storage types are a big plus. I would definitely recommend this product.

This is a nice way of displaying your favorite images on a desk top or a small wall space. The image quality is very good, while there are a number of clever options to do slide shows with and without calendars and clocks. The software is intuitive and easy to use and the hardware works great. WiFi options would be a nice addition. I hope Sony comes out with bigger versions of this frame.

My daughter bought me a digital frame for Christmas. We had to return it. I couldn't get the pictures from my computer to the frame. This Sony was easy to load and navigate. I've only had it a week but it is so much fun to be able to see photos that would be sitting in a folder unseen. I also get to watch the movies of grandson and my animals playing. Great fun.
P.S.Don't forget to buy the mini USB so you can connect to your MAC.

Comments about Sony 10.2" Digital Photo Frame (TruBlack Technology):
Wow! I have been looking at this Sony DPF with the TruBlack LED screen and saw flyers a year ago from Sony. It never came to the big box stores but saw this on the B&H website and had to try. Overall, I am very impressed. Super easy to set-up, load pix, play music and select various photo-albums. Even has a calendar and alarm clock. I ordered this, got it very fast from B&H and played around with it and my Memory-Stick-USB adapter from my camera in 10mins. Did not tell the wife I was getting this but when she came home from work and saw what I was doing, she said what is that! I said it was my new Sony Digital PIX frame. She was floored... She said this looks better than those photos displayed on the PC and Computer (and we have very nice displays on both!).
This frame is so good, I ordered another one. Loaded all of my favorite albums and background music and just let it rip. Really enjoyable to have to look at. Even allows all of my MP4 and AAC files to play on this - no descoping to MP3 and lower quality compression!
I have two set-up in the bedrooms and may even order another. Really, it is that good. And the screen looks fantastic - not sure if it Gorilla Glass but it sure looks like it.

I gave this frame to my wife with a lot of photos that I loaded onto it. The picture quality is great, as are the significant number of options for the sideshow display. It has a nice design and is easy to use, with good instructions. The picture size is big enough you can see it from across a room and it has a wide angle of viewing so you have nice colors from wherever you are looking at the frame.
My only complaints are that it does not have a battery option so it has to be plugged into the wall to use, it holds fewer photos than I expect for its memory, and it is fairly pricey. Overall it is a good digital frame and we are happy with it.
