You Pay: $629.00
Product Highlights
  • 16-28mm f/2.8 Lens
  • Designed For Full Frame (FX) Canon DSLRs
  • Silent DC Motor With GMR Sensor
  • 15 Elements in 13 Groups
  • Aspherical, Super-Low Dispersion Glass
  • Easily Switch From Auto to Manual Focus

For the professional, a 16-28mm f/2.8 lens is almost a necessity, and this new AT-X 16-28mm f/2.8 Pro FX Lens for Canon from Tokina fills the bill very nicely. Designed specifically for Canon pro level DSLRs with a full frame (FX) sensor (such as the Canon EOS 5D Mark II), this super wide-angle zoom has 15 elements in 13 groups, using aspherical and SD super-low dispersion glass elements to reduce chromatic aberration and give maximum resolution. The silent DC motor allows the lens to focus quickly and quietly and works with a GMR magnetic AF sensor to increase AF speed even more. An exclusive One-Touch Focus Clutch mechanism allows switching quickly between auto focus and manual focus by snapping the focus ring forward for AF and back toward the camera for manual focus. And, it's possible to buy this lens without applying for a mortgage first.

Professional 16-28mm F/2.8 Lens
Designed for professional full frame (FX) Canon DSLRs.
NEW Silent DC Motor With GMR Sensor
The 16-28 f/2.8 uses a newly developed silent DC motor that allows the lens to focus faster and more quietly then previous generations. The DC motor coupled with a new GMR magnetic AF sensor work together to increase AF Speed.
Aspherical and Super-Low Dispersion Glass Elements
A new, 56mm-diameter, large size aspherical glass element is incorporated into the front lens group, while there are 2 more aspherical elements in the rear group. 3 SD super-low dispersion glass elements are also incorporated throughout the optical design to reduce chromatic aberration, give maximum resolution, more even brightness and distortion correction.
One-Touch Focus Clutch
Tokina's exclusive One-Touch Focus Clutch Mechanism allows the photographer to switch between AF and MF simply by snapping the focus ring forward for AF and back toward the camera to focus manually. There is no second AF/MF switch on the lens for Canon, everything is accomplished with the focus ring.

I was Skeptical to stray from Canon L lenses based on reviews. I researched and researched for a wide angle Lens for my 60D that will also be compatible with the 6D when I come up with the bread to buy it. I actually borrowed a friends 16-35mm f/2.8L II to go on a camping trip and was disappointed after I got home and found all my images soft compared to my 24-70 f/2.8 L. at first glance before buying this lens I was automatically put off for lack of filter compatibility. But later found there is a company that makes a 145mm filter adapter for it for $269.I think if I need a filter I will use one of my other lenses for now. But anyway I kept weighing choices until I decided to bite the bullet. I am both surprised and delighted in my choice. this lens is sharper than the canon 16-35 I had by far. My copy focuses fast and quiet on AF as well as my lens cap stays on tight. I did test it taking a few pictures of light to see if it flared, it did .but I bought this lens for landscape photography so that is not bothering me. I did notice while shooting landscape at dusk on aperture priority that the camera metering was under exposed between bright sky and the ground. I had to go up 2 stops to correct but no big deal to me. Also my test shots at 2.8 where a tad soft at the edges . none of this is a deal breaker based on my results with the 16-35. I think I can live with any downfalls that this lens has and use one of my other lenses in a situation that is critical for streetlamps or wanting to get that super crisp 2.8 shot..

I pick up this lens hoping to save some money compared to the Canon ones but after owning it for a few months I'm not overly happy with it.

I've used this lens for landscape shots and night shots its a sharp lens well built but the big problem is the lens flare this lens gets and you do get little dots over your images from other lights. This is fine during the day but as soon as you point it at a light it flares badly.

The focus ring doesn't fully disengage when you go from auto to manual it takes a couple of attempts.

I wouldn't recommend buying this lens if your a canon user on a budget get the 17-40 f4 lens.

I got this lens for my wedding photography. Specifically this model since I need a wide zoom lens during certain points of a wedding coverage like when the getting ready room is tight and during the entire party's group shot during reception. The lens delivers giving me wide view. Sharpness is okay. Autofocus is slow specially in low light. Basically you get what you pay for. I am happy with the purchase and will recommend with my friends.

    Good Choice Good Price

Comments about Tokina AT-X 16-28mm f/2.8 Pro FX Lens for Canon:

I recently purchased a 3 axis gimbal from CAME TV and needed a wide angle lens. I choose the Tokina for various reasons but mostly for sharpness and cost. This is an intelligent buy for anyone shooting video or pictures. As filmmakers we have so much other pieces of equipment to buy that each choose has to be a smart one. And this lens performs just as good or better than the L Series from Canon. You won't regret it

This is the Subaru to the 16-35L's Mercedes...the Merc is nice and beautiful but you're not gonna have any fun in it...you're not gonna push it...you can buy 3 of these for the price of the L which means if you push it too far you still have the $$ to buy another one or two!...if you want an ultra wide for your full frame stop reading reviews and hit add to cart!

First one arrived backfocusing SOOB(straight out of the box). I had to do some micro adjustment to get the center focus to a happy place.
Did not feel comfortable with it after a while so I returned it.

Second lens arrive and was soft all around the edges.

Got fed up and still waiting for my refund up till now. Don't get me wrong, B&H is awesome and Tokina is definitely a competitive product. I am just saying...

Comments about Tokina AT-X 16-28mm f/2.8 Pro FX Lens for Canon:

I purchased that primarily for real estate. I needed a good 16mm on my Canon 6D for small rooms, the 24-70 just wasn't cutting it. As most everyone else has noted, it's sharp out to the edges and has proven to be well up to the task of producing sharp photos for my real estate clients.

I unexpectedly found myself using it for portraits as well. I have had a few instances where the extra wide of it helped me avoid certain obstacles while yet still capturing my subject. This was especially useful on a recent senior shoot involving an airplane. I was able to capture more detail inside an *incredibly* tight cockpit.

The jury's still out on the unusual AF ring. Much handier when I need to switch to it, but not always a 100% smooth change over.

Color and contrast aren't the most *outstanding* thing I've ever seen, but it's been good enough for portraiture and architecture.
