The 12" Dobsonian Telescope from Sky-Watcher is a large-aperture, short focal-length, Newtonian reflector. It provides big light-bucket gathering, good optical quality and unique utility. It has an inspiring simple construction, emphasizing ease-of-use and greater aperture for lower cost.

Sky-Watcher's optical tube design utilizes their proprietary truss support system. That system allows the optical tube's front and back tubes to collapse together, aligning on the truss support rods, and locking down for secure transport. This one piece, low-hassle OTA design is mechanically simple and results in a large aperture telescope that can be reasonably handled and transported by one individual. This innovation gives Sky-Watcher users tremendous functional ease-of-use.

The Sky-Watcher Dobsonian's large aperture and fast focal ratio make it the ideal dedicated telescope for wide-field, deep-space observation of faint galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters. For ease-of-use, Sky-Watcher uses a high-performance Teflon bearing system in both axes combined with tension adjusters in altitude that assure smooth manual movement.

Sky-Watcher Dobsonian telescopes offer quality optics, huge aperture, solid construction, and superb value for the investment.

In viewing deep-space, aperture counts big time. With this telescope you have tremendous light gathering power. Some prominent deep-space objects that can be seen under the right viewing conditions in an 12" SW Dob are the Horsehead Nebula, M76, M97, M61 and many more.

On each parabolic primary mirror, and elliptical diagonal mirror, aluminum is vacuum deposited to the front glass surface and then over coated with hard quartz (SiO4). Additional layers of titanium dioxide (TiO2) and (SiO4) are then applied.

An 8x50mm right angle optical viewfinder provides both magnification and light gathering to help narrow your search for those elusive fuzzies while star-hopping. The standard, backlash-free, 2" Crayford Focuser insures ultra smooth focusing adjustments. Multi-coated, 4-element Plossl eyepieces (25mm and 10mm) provide a spacious 52° Apparent Field of View.

Comments about Sky-Watcher 12" Dobsonian Telescope:

This is my first 12 inch dob. I used to own a 10 inch dob. I see noticeable differences between my old 10 inch and this 12 inch for deep sky objects and planets. This scope fits in the backseat of my compact car. I recently transported this scope to a dark site, and observed famous late spring/summer objects including globular clusters (M3, M4, M5, M10, M12, M13, M22, M28, M53, M92), open clusters (M6, M7, M11, M23) nebulas (M8, M17, M20, M27, M57) and galaxies (M51, M64, M65, M66, M81, M82, M94, M101, M104) all of which looked fantastic through this large dob. Saturn looked amazing as well - I think I got the best view of Saturn in my life (I have owned more than 10 scopes and looked through many high-end telescopes over the past 10 years). Due to the collapsible structure, the scope retained its collimation really well and basically I do not need to collimate it when I move the scope from my garage to backyard. The crayford focuser is smooth and accurate.

I really liked B&H's services. They gave me a really good deal (substantially cheaper than in other telescope retailers + free shipping + no tax to CA residents) and the shipping was relatively quick. The packaging was great.

I enjoy this scope a lot and highly recommend this Skywatcher scope to anyone who are looking for a 12 inch dob.

Comments about Sky-Watcher 12" Dobsonian Telescope:

Very easy to follow instructions for assembly.
The balance of the base bearing assembly is amazing.
I found the rings of Saturn with the lowest power
eyepiece with ease. What a sight, with the enormous light gathering power of the 12 inch mirror.
Almost too easy to rotate on the bearing base, well balanced and easy to nudge off the sighting if not careful.
Would recommend this telescope to any night sky lover!
